McDermott is a competent HC, but I think you’re giving him a little too much credit for the Bills success. His roster is stacked, thanks to Beane. And if Allen was a bust, McD likely would be looking for a new job. Sure, he played a role in developing Allen, but the majority of the heavy lifting was done by Daboll, Palmer, and Josh’s own natural ability. Behind every great coach is a great QB. What a coincidence.

I’m fine with seeing what Granato can do with Eichel. I would strip him of his Captaincy though. He lost that at his end of year presser. I still would tell him, if he still wants to go, then a trade will be done before his NMC kicks in.

It’s extremely unlikely that an Eichel trade is holding up a coaching hire. That’s the type of trade that’s going to take 1-2 months to consummate. Teams still have to review his medical records and probably speak with him.

It’s a youth movement, but I think getting all futures is sending a message to GMs. If you think adding Jack to your current roster can get you over some playoff hump, we’d like to talk to you. We aren’t looking to dismantle your current team. It’s certainly a youth movement, but also assurance to a potential trade partner.

From what I read about him (maybe BN?) is that he’s a fairly laidback guy and has never been one who is always thinking about their next position. He puts his head down and works and let the pieces fall where they may. I’m sure hiring a HC is a very political situation and he just never got caught up in all that.

Devil’s advocate would say we’ve tried the “surround the youngsters with vets” approach and it didn’t work. Obviously, it depends on which vets and which youngsters. But, merely signing vets isn’t going to move the needle.

I especially like that part about respecting your teammates, your coaching staff, and the whole organization. I think Jack put on a clinic on how to be disrespectful towards your organization about a month back. Him airing his personal health information and his disagreement showed a complete lack of respect towards his organization (and maybe himself). Regardless on who is “right”, once that happens, it’s time to move on. I think many of us have been in a work situation where we lose complete respect for those working above us. It doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t stem from a big argument. But, once it happens, you can’t even look these people in the eye anymore and you know it can’t be fixed. Maybe it’s like heading into a divorce. You know it’s over and time to leave. I didn’t get this sense from rhino’s exit interview though.

My guess is that fans would’ve been rioting in the streets. Now? Not so much. He’s gone and most of us have accepted why this needs to happen.

This may be true, even if we pretended this was a strong draft year, but there’s a big difference amongst these assets. Zegras, Dach, and Byfield are significantly further along in their development than this year’s 3OA. In addition, they have shown promise (ie less likely to be a bust) after being drafted, 3OA has not.

This is just asking to be placed into another Hall situation. What will likely happen is that Jack will give the team a small list of acceptable teams. We’ll have no clue which teams may be included and it’s likely Jack doesn’t know right now either. They will likely be teams that don’t really need Jack (they’ll be perennial playoff teams) and won’t be desperate. They’ll be smart about it (as the Boston’s and Tampa Bay’s are) and will lowball us knowing we are handcuffed. Supposedly, there were multiple teams Hall would’ve accepted. We still got peanuts.

Based on what KA has been repeatedly saying, I’m unsure he’s going to simply going to select the guy who’s going to have the most points over the next 5 years. He wants offensive prowess, but also wants them playing the whole rink and punishing players while at it. True pain in the ***** to play. I know nothing about Eklund, but does he fit this mold?

Just my opinion here, but I think players were different back then. Hockey wasn’t just a job to support their lifestyle. Today, there’s more entitlement. And this is happening more than just in professional sports. At sometime in the not to distant past, people would suck it up if they didn’t like work. Now, they just quit until they can find something more in line with the life they want to live. My point is forcing a player today is a recipe for disaster, much worse than 10-15 years ago.
