I don’t see this as a “rebuild” in the traditional sense, but rather a refocus. The sell-off Darcy pulled was a rebuilt. The house was stripped down to the studs. We’re not looking at a similar situation this coming year. We have a handful of youth already on the roster that took significant steps last year. We add another 1B goalie after signing Ulmark and pray that he plays at least half the season. UPL plays the whole season in Roch. Power doesn’t go back to UM and becomes our 2LHD. He makes mistakes, but learns from them and plays with pride. I’m not going to approach the Jack situation beyond he’s playing or a young 1C star is playing in his place. Whoever this is ignites Skinner to score at least 20 goals.

Suiting up is all we can ask of him at this point. He does have some legitimate concerns. But if my young team is clicking, I’d rather a semi-disgruntled Jack on my team than accept a dumb trade offer. With Jack, I’m sure winning will solve everything. But, he certainly doesn’t need to buy in until we do.

I don’t think the Sabres have to “win” out of the gate to be successful this coming year. I do think they need to play their ***** off every night and be entertaining. They can’t continue to be a laughingstock. I think if Jack sees this happening, he may want to contribute. Edit: maybe a bad analogy, but I remember the Bills when McBeane came on. He started jettisoning all the bad habits. Watkins and Dareus were booted. Could be some more. Everyone in the league, including many fans, were convinced they were purposely tanking. Didn’t turn out that way.

It’s just that Drury’s offers have been so ridiculously low. They can’t possibly be serious.

I think the likelihood of a reconciliation is not as low as some think. The guy is 24 and wants everything his way. Then he meets the real world where adults have rules. Of course he is going to start crying. Many of us at the age of 24 would’ve acted the same way. If he decided to sit, which many of us think he won’t, and we begin to have some semblance of success or positivity, I think he’ll suit up.

KA on FA, 7/24 presser: We don't want to "box out" our young core

Brendan has done nothing in this league. Was going to be a scrub no matter what team he was on. This is why he keeps getting passed around like a cold. Likely still kicking around due to Dad. -
Pure speculation and not the type of 3rd level thinking Drury is probably capable of, but if I were him, I would rather keep Eichel on the Sabres instead of joining a competitor in the East. The Sabres have already proven they can neuter Jack’s skill. He could be encouraging other GMs to low-ball us to ensure this.

KA on FA, 7/24 presser: We don't want to "box out" our young core

I think Samuelsson still needs to prove he can even play in the NHL before daddy starts throwing a fit. This sounds like Brendan Lemieux part deux. -
I agree. Or at least would have agreed in the past. But, I’m just not 100% sure anymore. I’m not convinced that KA is going to come down on his price, nor do I think he should. Ever. That said, GMs across the league want things on the cheap. I’m not so sure they are going to “decimate their franchise” (or some other overly dramatic verbiage). So, if there is an impasse, which is incredibly possible, Jack is to going to be faced with a big decision. Sit or play hockey. Do you think KA is going to, or should, come down on his price just “to move him”?

I’m not so sure of that. Both of those players were basically 1 year rentals that weren’t going to sign with us. It’s natural for us wanting to get assets for them. Jack is different. He has 5 more years on his contract and if tomorrow was opening night, I still think we have a decent young roster with him included. We finally have a viable 2C. Plus, Jack is only 24. Some may even argue that Jack is even more valuable to us now that Sam and Risto have been moved.

Poltapov even looks like a nasty mother *****.

Maybe we should all have a discussion on whether we are outside or not? Or whether 1 year is really 2 years?
-
There’s always value left on the board. There’s always talent there.

Yes, Sabres will select him there…

NHL Fire Sale: Roster Freeze Ends, 1pm eastern, 7/22

Exactly why did we not go for Nedeljkovic? Not allowed to have nice things? -
As a physician, I don’t really follow this line of thinking. The heart inflammation of Covid can involved the myocardium, but can also involve the coronary arteries. The heart muscle inflammation will resolve, with or without accompanied fibrosis, but the coronary involvement can result in aneurysms and/or stensoses. These don’t tend to resolve and we do not know the long term sequelae of Covid heart inflammation. Of course, I do not know any of his medical details, so don’t know if he has CA involvement. As for c-spine herniated discs, this is less of a question mark. They either self-resolve or they don’t and this can be easily tested by serial MRIs. Jack’s injury is much less of a mystery, but by no means of less importance. To me, both of these players have significant medical worts.

I don’t care about taking the absolutely best deal for Jack. If the deals are roughly equal, Jack goes to the other team. If the Rags deal is slightly better, Jack goes to the other team. If the Rags deal is heads-and-shoulders better, then and only then should he be dealt to them.
-
I would do this. 1OA and 3OA is basically a wash in this draft. Both teams will be very happy. If this what gets ANA to ship us their 2 top prospects (which I doubt they would be willing to do), I would pull the trigger.
-
Borgen gets jettisoned and this. Brace yourselves when both Jack and Sam get the boot.
-
I think they should absolutely put Lafreniere on the table. They got incredibly lucky and the hockey gods dropped him in their lap. Now just imagine, if at the expense of Lafreniere, they had Jack drop into their lap for basically doing nothing. That’s how the Rag should be viewing trading Lareniere for Jack.

Seems to me the word “astronomical” is being overused and has lost its effect.
-
There’s zero reasons either Jack or Sam would’ve been dealt up until now. We want futures and they would represent extra players the acquiring team would be forced to protect. So, in effect, they would probably lose another good player if they were forced to protect Jack or Sam.
