  1. Depends how old they are. Seth Jones wouldn’t fit into our plans given his age. Should be acquired and flipped.
  2. Got. Still an incredibly steep price to pay in order to avoid having the Kraken select of the best worst player on the NHL’s last place team. Would be a good idea if we were gonna keep the band together and wanted cap space to add another player. But, there’s currently 3 players we may not need to protect. What if we don’t even have enough roster players to protect?
  3. If the Sabres are going to dictate which player they take, then I don’t see the point in even moving up. It’s not like they are leapfrogging a team.
  4. Interesting you should bring the Bills into the conversation. Unlike the NHL, the term “analytics” isn’t as buzzworthy in NFL. In fact, I didn’t even realize it was thing for the Bills. Here it what I found: https://billswire.usatoday.com/2021/05/17/buffalo-bills-investing-analytics-sean-mcdermott/ There’s a good Tweet in their. The Jags lead the way, which makes me think NFL go the route of analytics when success on the field isn’t going so well. And I partially agree. Analytics usually take a backseat when you are poor at drafting or don’t have enough talent on the team. When you do, analytics seem to be more of a marketing term.
  5. I’ll go a step further down the gutter. I’d take Zegras straight up for Jack. Plus, maybe even a conditional 2022 first based on performance or games played.
  6. Here’s the thing. He has proven that he can be a very good 2C at worst (on an otherwise very bad team). Would someone be willing to trade a top 10 for a very good, young 2C? Depends. Obviously, whether it is 1-5 or pick 6-10. Would we have traded 8OA in 2017 (Casey) for a 25 year-old very good 2C? I would have to say absolutely. Plus, if the reports are to be believed, it sounds like GM around the league don’t have much faith in any one player outside the top 3-5 players. The other wrinkle, and this might be holding up any potential trade, is whether Sam is willing to sign a longer term deal with the new team. If the “rental” label is removed, he fetches a higher return and certainly a top 5-10 pick in a “weak” draft.
  7. I’m beginning to wonder if Reino isn’t going to be moved after all. He’s a really simple piece to trade. No injury. No bad reputation. Great player. And KA is probably just asking for a top-10 pick. Maybe he wants to stay and they are negotiating a deal?
  8. The best pick ups would be 1-2 young guys straight out of grad school. They’ll be quick on the take and hungry.
  9. It really does sound like it’s been the Rags in the background crying the whole time with all these media leaks. Take their card out of the Rolodex, Kevyn.
  10. The way I interpret this (and I haven’t listened to the podcast), is that if the Sabres don’t lower their “unbelievable” asking price soon, then they’re out of the running. So, they’re losing patience with KA’s asking price, not the process. I say good riddance. Buh-bye and call their rival again.
  11. Isn’t this a strange pickup right before a draft? May mean he had little to no input on the Pens draft board?
  12. I agree this doesn’t reflect well on Nightingale’s analytics resume. Maybe he just couldn’t get it done by himself in his past environment. The good news is we now have both.
  13. Anyway we slice this, I think Sam has more value on the trade market compared to getting compensation back. At $6M, it’s a 1st and a 3rd, which isn’t much and very well could both be at the very end of the rounds. For example, I would want a top prospect well into his development than a 1st and 3rd. Plus, Sam would easily be matched at that price and all problems solved. Even if they go higher, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd isn’t worth.
  14. Hypothetical question. If a team offer sheets Sam and he signs it, but then we match it, is he obligated to sign with us for that money and term? If he is, and he doesn’t wish to stay (under any circumstance), he probably won’t sign any offer sheets.
  15. Not enough. But, I’d throw in Risto if that gets us 3OA too.
  16. Unless your name is Skinner…
  17. I’d be happy with 3OA and one of those 2. It’s not going to be Zegras and Drysdale. In fact, at this point, I think I’d be shocked if we got either Zegras or Drysdale.
  18. “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have” - Thomas Jefferson
  19. I can see the shooting percentage of maybe 1-2 players being elevated, because sometimes players get hot purely based on luck. But, from what I read, Granato had the whole team having a sh% a full 1% higher than RK. To me, that’s not just puck luck.
  20. I read somewhere a 3 month rehab if he opts for surgery.
  21. The resolution could also very well be: Jack agrees to be a good soldier and play the first 10-15 games to prove his health and we promise to complete his trade then.
  22. An interview is extremely important. You would think candidates would be on their best behavior (ie faking it), but that’s usually not how it works. I have interviewed many people, usually young, and sometimes you’re shocked in what you hear.
  23. Yes, that we know of. But, yes, I’m sure he’s ambivalent about being listened to, with the exception of firing an entire hockey department.
  24. "We felt like we needed to be heard," said Terry during the Botterill firing press conference….
  25. Yeah? What were Adams’s qualifications to become a GM? Any prior AGM experience? Anything special in his past for him to be hired without a search?
