I’d say if Savoie or Kulich beat out Cirelli or Ek, the Kevyn is truly a magician, because I can’t see us trading for either one without one of the above going the other way. #11 alone won’t nearly be enough.
-
I think it could work too. We automatically assume that a late bloomer blowing it up his D+1/2 year would gravitate to certain desirable teams (ie playoff teams). Money wouldn’t be the reason as all ELC are pretty much the same. But, why would a prospect gravitate toward a winning team that has no possible opening for him? Would naturally make the bottom feeders a better place to sign such a player.
-
This really is a laughable tweet. For all we know, it was this: “So Kev, should I get the Delmonico or the bone-in ribeye at the Chophouse?”
-
And pull-ups. Most obvious Sabres target.
-
Yeah, who would’ve thought we would done such a thing? If this is how we are reacting to Leone, just imagine if we hired Paetsch or Prospal.
-
I would do it. Only on one condition though. Tkachuk actually wants to come here or is at least ok with the destination. Put it this way, suppose we could go back to 2021 and somehow the present day Tkachuk was available in the draft. Would we pick him or Power?

I don’t get the sudden hate. I guess they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. They reached out to a guy from outside the organization and it’s still panned. This guy may very well be a great hire.
-
I can see them passing on Iginla too. There’s going to be sizable baggage with that pick. What if he’s not living up to expectations (ie. Not being Jarome) or if Daddy thinks they are using him wrong. You think he’s going to sit pat and not make some phone calls?
-
Remember, your talking about the same guy who swore that Adams would rather let Ryan Johnson walk away as a UFA and take a compensatory last pick in the 2nd round of the 2025 NHL draft than to sign him.
-
A head coach picking his assistants? That’s crazy talk.
-
If so, more the reason he should’ve sat out the playoffs to heal. Not saying it wasn’t a horrific injury, just the timing is a bit suspect, especially for a team who has done this before.
-
My favor part of the article was this: “…includes '20 playoff MVP Victor Hedman, Erik Cernak and Mikhail Sergachev, who missed several months with a broken leg before making a surprise return in the first round.” It was actually magic. Magic caused the guy making $8.5M per year to be ready as soon as the playoffs started.

So, what’s the deal here? Is the level of competition that much lower than the NHL or is he just on fire? I get there are many NHL players on these rosters, but they can’t all be.

So, I had never heard of this kid. I like to give people 2nd chances, especially young kids. I also think it’s very hard for people to change who they really are. I went into it with an open mind anyways. I came across the swastika incident and maybe a racial slur. Ok, kids do really dumb stuff. Even our very own golden boy Josh Allen had similar baggage, but we still drafted him. Then I read this article: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5290107/2024/02/22/nhl-draft-prospect-trevor-connelly/ I can’t see how we would possibly draft him. He’s played on a billion teams, leaving each one due to “no comment” or some other attitude/bullying issue. Even got kicked out of Bishop Kearney after 2 weeks. And all this stuff really wasn’t that long ago.

The background music makes it even more laughable.

I’ve been thinking about this one. Was Botterill really that bad? Sure, there was a trade of a 6th for a later 6th. Truly a boneheaded move and I wonder why he did it. But the rest of our current team is basically Botterill’s. Besides that, if the rumors were true, Pegs forced the signing of Skinner on him. And, whether we truly think ROR had to go, Pegs also forced him to trade him prior to the bonus payout. The Krueger hire was a bad one, but the hire sounded more like no one else wanted the job. The Nylander pick was bad and I don’t think we really found anyone of worth in the latter rounds. If anything, it’s negative on him for not listening to his scouting staff, which are virtually the same people around today.

Thing is, Eichel had sort of hit rock bottom. Hadn’t played in a year, when he did play that year, wasn’t that good, then had a big drama with the Sabres. It had to be a humbling experience. Matthews? He’s at the top of his game, probably doesn’t think his poop stinks, and likely thinks he’s a god, like Marner does. Doubt he’s going to want a coach coming in to knock him off his game.
-
He certainly stands out as someone who isn’t earning his pay, but this is mostly due to his injury history. I’m not going to call a 24 year-old defenseman dead weight though. Overpaid at this point in time, yes. That said, I expect him to have a decent bounce back year under Ruff.
-
So, besides the obvious (Skinner), is there any other dead wood we can shed? Too many players making inflated salaries with not enough results. I look down this roster and ask myself, we’re having imminent cap problems?
-
I think UPL is only going to get better next year under Ruff. I don’t know whether the 2nd half of the year was our defense or UPL or both, but I would hope to think our D is going have to take a big step under Ruff. If Power and Byram both improve, UPL will appear better, even with no self-improvement.

He meant to say the paper work to make either Patches or Prospal head coach has been started.
-
He may have donned a Sabres sweater, even coached them for 15 years, but Ruff hasn’t been part of the Sabres for over 10 years. He’s your outsider or “breath of fresh air” and he’s the one who is the most important of them all. It just looks like he surrounded himself with people who know these players inside and out. That shouldn’t take away what type of coach Lindy is.
-
The Sabres should trade the 11th overall pick in the 2024 draft

He’s not a McDavid or Bedard, but he’s definitely better than Eichel.
