I wouldn’t say Risto has “significant” trade value but I’d still protect him over Borgen even though Borgen is a RHD. I’d like to trade Risto before the expansion draft anyways.

This is the one everyone has focused on, for good reason. They lack the NHL-now pieces that would be ideal but their prospect pool is as good as it gets. Byfield is obviously the prize but including him in a package severely diminishes anything else you might ask for. Would Byfield, Kempe and 8 be enough? Because that’s probably the absolute mask you get if he’s included (and you might not get that). A guy that never gets mentioned with them is RHD prospect Helge Grans. I admittedly don’t know a ton about him but the 35th overall pick in last year’s draft was considered a high-risk/high-upside pick that needed to make several improvements but took a leap last year in his second year in the SEL.

I think when you have the first pick you definitely reach a consensus and take whoever that player is. The farther you go back in the draft the more “off the board” I think teams go. It’s likely Quinn was number one. I didn’t start watching him this week but that was a legitimate question. I don’t believe anyone should try to have a convincing conversation if they’ve literally never watched the player.

If he were a RHD I imagine the entire board and every Sabres fan everywhere with some sense would be on board with him. I would like us to acquire a good, young current NHL RHD in a deal this offseason, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere.

And be entirely fair, we don’t know that Quinn was number one on their board when they got to eight.

I like that the first response in a thread titled “group hug” about bringing the board together and calming attitudes starts with “I don’t agree”

Yea, I think a lot of it was this. I, too, focused mostly on Beniers and favored him for a short time because I assumed we’d be at 2/3.

Maybe Petr Mrazek is the goalie we should be going after.
