He’s been the clear number one for a while now. Not consensus but certainly the odds on favorite. It didn’t happen suddenly with this tournament. Maybe consider the possibility that this tournament is a continuation of good work already put in by the prospect. Even in a “normal” draft I’d want more than those two pieces.
-
He’s got good size. He’s not a first overall pick worthy player but while I’d prefer Beniers if we get the third pick in an Eichel deal I’d also be fine with Guenther.
-
See the post in the IIHF thread. There’s some notable talent in this tournament. He’s doing the absolute best you can expect in the situation he’s in. You’re drafting 18 year olds. It’s incredibly rare to see any of them compete with NHL players because, well, they’re not in the NHL. We have to judge them based on the competition they’re facing. That’s the entire ***** point.

Logging such major minutes in a men’s WORLD tournament as the youngest player to EVER play for team Canada is nothing short of impressive, regardless of whether or not there are superstars on the rosters or not. There are still guys like Tarasenko, Jakob Vrana, Connor Garland, Dominik Kubalik, Adrian Kempe, Rakell, Olofsson, Hischier, and Timo Meier on the offensive side that are more than just depth guys. There is little chance Power wasn’t already number one on their board. There’s an even smaller chance now.
-
It is notable that this is a lesser tournament but it doesn’t take anything away from his accomplishments there. Based on their ice time it seems Power likely would’ve made Canada in any normal year.
-
These rosters are made up of depth NHL players. It’s absolutely notable and impressive that Power is already able to outplay all of them at 18 (not just 18, but the youngest player to ever lace up the skates for the world’s best hockey country).

The Sabres need literally everything. If this board wasn’t so set with their preconceived notions that Power isn’t good enough we’d all be going wild over his performance today. By all accounts he had a few rough plays in the second but bounced back with more than ten minutes of ice time to secure a win in a very important game. What he’s doing in this tournament has absolutely locked him in for me.

Maybe we can romance Gallant with the allure of coaching Power.
-
It is probably in the 80-90% range.
-
I had a hard time not wanting him off the team. An all-time blunder.
-
They were out defensed, too.

Won’t quote more of the article because it’s paid content but this is a subtweet at a few posters: "It's been very frustrating, a lot of people talk about his size," Hardy said. "I think a good thing has happened in scouting over the last decade or so, where people are no longer saying 'OK that guy is big, he has potential, we'll take him.' People question it now, because a lot of these big guys are busts. "So he's probably been unfairly labeled by some people in that way. But his hockey sense, his desire to compete, and skill level is really incredible for being that young and that big."

He was solid up until Singletary dropped what should’ve been a 40+ yard play on third down. Things fell apart from there (especially the offensive line). He was playing down basically from that point on with a shaky offensive line. For his first experience in an AFC Championship Game I wasn’t disappointed. He played well in “garbage time” and actually out the team in position where one crazy bounce could’ve made it a real game. Was he in shorts? If so, I’m sorry for your loss.

The Bergeron comparison is definitely his absolute ceiling scenario, as is Hedman with Power. But no two players are truly alike so most of the time those NHL name drops are just a familiarity factor where you see certain elements of players you see doing it on NHL ice.

😂 it’s helpful when the info presented isn’t intended to serve an agenda.
-
This feels like one of those where he doesn’t return until after the all star break
-
I think the probability that the Sabres/Adams are part of that consensus is incredibly high.
-
I wonder if the insinuation there was that this draft has a Draisaitl in it behind Ekblad? Otherwise it doesn’t make sense to me.
-
He doesn’t fit the young part at all and I wouldn’t accept him as a centerpiece to either deal but if he’s available I’d definitely make a deal there.
-
I think a lot of people assumed we wouldn’t win the lottery.
-
Correct. I was mostly noting I think they’d be capable at doing so to some extent if needed/wanted. I also hope there’s a sexy young RHD coming back in an Eichel or Reinhart deal.
-
I don’t believe Josh Allen was the problem in the playoffs and I’d question anyone who thinks he was.
-
I like Beniers and if Jack ends up in Anaheim I hope he’s the guy at 3.
-
This could very well be a semantics/contractual thing. If his contract isn’t up yet they’d need to get permission to speak to him but if he’s already said he’s not going anywhere until his contract expires there might not be a need to make that move now.
-
I thought the insinuation you were making was that the NBA was rigging games.
