I'll be thrilled if we trade up for Jackson. Wouldn't cost a ton, either, like moving up for Darnold would.

Zay Jones was not fine. Better? Yes. Fine? No. And Benjamin is not "always open" when he's playing on one leg.

Agreed. His first two years may well be as good as he'll be, but I really don't think this season is representative of what the rest of his career will look like.

Tyrod certainly left throws out there, but at the same time, he also doesn't throw with anticipation. He has to see someone open to make the throw. Statistically, that would offset at least some of his missed throws. I know it's dump on Tyrod season, but we had one of the worst WR corps in the league. I think "he misses wide open guys" is one of the more overstated critiques of his game. It's a tough case to make that our receivers were simultaneously terrible and running wide open all game. Besides, even without a defender within 30 yards of him, I still wouldn't throw to Zay Jones :p

I wouldn't even say the cupboard was bare. Both Connolly and Roy were legitimate #2 centers. Problem was Connolly was broken and that forced Roy to have to be a franchise center, which obviously he couldn't do.

Lamar Jackson is still my guy in this draft (given our position). He's being totally underrated because Louisville was a tire fire.

I still think Nylander will be a better NHL player than AHL player. But right now that feels like more of a fleeting hope than a well-reasoned position.

Thing is, Bogo isn't even a solid 2nd pair when he does play. Dude is a 3rd pairing defenseman irrespective of injury status. If we were in a playoff spot, it wouldn't be funny. But now? Definitely funny.

On the great Smith v Taylor debate, here's an interesting stat: https://twitter.com/MattHarmon_BYB/status/951230899265314816 Unsurpsiringly, our WRs couldn't separate worth a damn. We knew this already (it's always cool when the stats and the eye test align). But is was surprised to see KC on top. Hill and Kelce are great individually, and Reid probably helped scheme them open. Likely had a lot to do with Smith's season.

I agree with this analysis. It's kinda funny how Murray's hallmark (scouting) could prove to be his biggest failure here.

This was far and away the best statistical season of Smith's career. It was also clearly the worst of Taylor's 3 as a starter. The previous two season, Smith has had around (eye balling the averages here) 3500 yards, 18 TDs, 8 picks, 250 yards rushing, 3 rushing TDs. Taylor had about 3000 yards, 18 TDs, 6 picks, 550 rushing yards, 5 rushing TDs. I don't think Smith repeats his best year, nor that Tyrod repeats his worst year. Qualitatively, Smith played for Andy Reid, one of the best offensive coaches of his generation. Tyrod had...Rick Dennison. Smith got to throw to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Tyrod had a one-legged Clay and half a year of one-legged Benjamin, busted Jordan Matthews, and...Zay Jones? Edit: They also have pretty similar shortcomings. Smith has spent his career with fans complaining about things like not throwing to WRs, checking down too often, and throwing 6 yards passes on 3rd and 8. Sound familiar?
