  1. Without looking anything up...clearing cap space?
  2. Where is Dudacek to tell us regression was inevitable? :p Not sure where you're going with this, but they drafted in the top-10 like a bazillion times to get this foundation.
  3. Hell, I'd take Spooner here. Obviously we're not contending, but he'd help our depth scoring next year.
  4. I'm not sure why, but I laughed pretty hard at this phrasing. Gallows humor, I suppose.
  5. I think you may be overlooking a fairly important piece of that puzzle :p
  6. I really don't see any reason to ship Antipin out unless he truly has no interest in staying here.
  7. Ovie was far and away my favorite player to watch during that run. I couldn't believe a hockey player like him actually existed.
  8. Counterpoint: They're both UFAs, Kane is more productive at this point in their respective careers, and Nash is more expensive.
  9. I'm far from Kane's biggest fan around here, but it bewilders me that a team would rather have current Nash than Kane.
  10. Not if the top pair has to play 27 minutes per night. I think he can absolutely be part of a relatively fluid top-4 that gets ~23 minutes each per night.
  11. I think Risto would be fine playing next to a bonafide #1 guy. But I don't think he can be the best defenseman on a good team.
  12. I like the beach just fine. My pale Irish and German skin? Not so much  That's pretty weak.
  13. Because our defensemen remain collectively playing a role higher than they should be.
  14. Yup, expanding the lottery changed the incentive structure...in the exact opposite way the league intended. It also served to castrate the trade deadline because 1st round picks for teams "in the hunt" are significantly more valuable. Absolutely. There is nothing more valuable than a star player on an ELC and under team control as an RFA. Just like rebuilding "the right way" is successful all the time! Detroit...uh Ottawa....ugh Florida...whoops Vancouer....whelps This is fun, isn't it?
  15. We were also not dumping UFAs who could reasonably fetch more than a 2nd round pick. There wasn't much discussion to be had.
  16. If I'm the Rangers, I'd much rather trade with Dale Tallon than Steve Yzerman.
  17. I'd put money on the NHL vetoing any such move, even if it's not explicitly in the CBA.
  18. I long for the days where standard operating procedure wouldn't be somehow tied to the tank. Bad teams trading expiring contracts for future assets at the deadline is a practice so old it may predate the creation of the universe. Why is there a need to use this to make sweeping generalizations about a fan base being transformed by Darcy's final acts? What we're talking about now has nothing to do with the tank, or having a loser mentality brought on by the decision to tank. It's how things have always worked.
  19. Color me surprised. Didn't think the league would smack Pittsburgh that way.
  20. Hey man, I qualified it with "pretty sure" for a reason. I figured you old geezers would identify other examples :p
  21. Pretty sure it came about because of the contrast between bright white teeth and dark skin; it was only used to describe a black person with a great smile. Regarding Jackson, one of us is going to look like a buffoon a year from now  Cam was a no-brainer #1, but a lot of that is because that QB class was not well-regarded as a whole. He just didn't have much competition for the spot. There was definitely a ton of chatter about him having high bust potential and not being an NFL passer.
  22. I think he's pretty similar to Newton (who also isn't the most accurate passer in the world, yet we'd all love to have) except his running is more elusive, whereas Cam's is more power.
  23. Pretty fun article on Jackson: https://www.sbnation.com/2018/2/20/16928908/lamar-jackson-quarterback-wide-receiver
