The return stinks, but that doesn't necessarily mean Botterill played it wrong. Like Flagg said, there has been oodles of discussion about Kane's shortcomings. GMs aren't (all) dumb.We also didn't have to take back bad money like NY did with Beleskey.
But "there is a belief" makes it seem like it's a growing sentiment. If it's from a single source, it should be reported as such. I don't think the reporters are useless like Flagg does, but Shannon definitely screwed the pooch here.
Correct. My issue was never with observations that he was playing horribly, but rather, with projections that said the current play was a better indicator of his future than two full seasons of quality play.
I forgot to get food out of the freezer for nearly an entire week straight. My brain is not functioning well
And Hoffman would be a real nice get.
I had a rough week, I don't know what else to tell you
Ottawa is entering a complete rebuild. Why in the world would they move Karlsson for a pending UFA with approximately a zero percent chance of re-signing?
Given the state of their top-4, I think he might be relatively available. They also don't have a 1st or 2nd to toss into a trade this year. Give them a scorer, bolster their depth, and take some bad money off their hands? I don't think it's crazy.
Though it looks incredibly unlikely he becomes what he was drafted to be, it still doesn't make sense to trade him for pennies. If someone is willing to give reasonable value? Sure, go for it. But he still has a better chance of becoming an NHL contributor than anything like a 2nd round pick as a trade add-on.
