On ice officialls don't police on ice languag that is not directed at them as their job is to make sure the game is safe and fair.
Now Avery who is a hall of fame chirper has no credibility when it comes to on ice language, and in almost every players mind he broke the code by bringing this up.
Like it or not, the term F-got on ice is not thought to be a anti-gay slur - but the most common challenge to someone walking away from something they said or did on the ice, and don't hear that word any differently than the P word which is an anti-woman slur.
Not saying this is stuff to be celebrated. But it is all dropped when players leave the ice.
The idea that any player is creating a hostile workplace for Sean Avery is really laughable.
The reality is that highly offensive language is at every game and it is not meant for fans, and the worst of it is used as gamesmanship to rattle, provoke, or create an edge.
The code is that it stays on the ice.
