  1. I saw lotsa films in the theater this summer. Mad Max: Had a blast. Fun action film that tells almost its entire story with the visuals. Magic Mike 2: Really fun movie. Basically a movie about an artist who can't help but be awed by his craft. And dudebros hanging out. It's the exact kind of movie that shouldn't have a plot, and they didn't try to shove one in. That said, 130 minutes is WAY TOO LONG for a movie where nothing happens (about an hour too long). Loved seeing Michael Strahan and Jada Pinkett Smith. Spy: Fun comedy film. Statham's over-serious character had me in stitches. Melissa McCarthy did a good job carrying the film, but I could've used more visual humor. Jurassic World: Boring huge action film. Avengers 2: Loved the first act. It was very charming. But the second act was a Boring huge action film. And there was no third act. Ant Man: Fun, but Boring huge action film. Getting sick of Marvel's tricks now that I've seen them played so many times Entourage: Terrible. Magic Mike did the whole "friends hanging out" thing way better, and that movie had sexy male stripping too. What does entourage have? Well... Liam Neeson makes a swear. Inside Out: Good children's film. I imagine that every kid that saw this movie now understands a lot more about mental health. I wanted more out of the movie, but I think that's because it did such a good job engaging me that I wanted more depth than kids movies usually carry. (But Pixar is good at this and I don't feel bad about holding them to a higher standard) The Gallows: My favorite film going experience all summer. The movie built tension slowly and beautifully, and the characters were well done (they're all incredibly shallow audience inserts, but they were never stupid or offensive). This movie excited my imagination. I started reading the Shining and writing a horror story because of it. I have more to say about the Gallows, but wont in case any of you are interested in seeing it.
  2. How much would fans despise Danny Briere if Darcy resigned him? I think he'd be another member of the failed core, and people would only talk about his defensive deficiencies since we wouldn't have been able to put him in a position to succeed. Kind of like how we kept hearing about how much of a creampuff Pommers was.
  3. I saw Victor Wooten last night. It was amazing. Aqueous threw down some nice grooves before he took the stage, glad I learned about them. Victor was fantastic. He played this: Afterwards we went to a nearby bar to see Funknut play. They funked hard, and Victor showed up to listen. I got to shake his hand and chat him up a little bit. Super nice guy. Normally, I get a little nervous meeting super famous musicians, but I couldn't help but crack a huge smile when I walked up to him. Victor Wooten!
  4. Anybody going to see Victor Wooten at Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Park in Rochester tonight? I just got last second invited and I'm so so so so tempted. He's one of my bucket list musicians that I have to see.
  5. The opening scene between Velcoro and Frank was awesome. I have no idea why they broke it up into two parts (the ~40 second scene where Paul and Anti ponder the bloody chair in the torture shack interrupts it). I would have opened the episode with the entire scene uninterrupted. (something to revisit once the season is complete) The party was very tense and had so many story points intersecting with Anti (emotionally and otherwise). Too bad they couldn't give Velcoro and Paul something emotionally connected to the party also, but that's well in line with the over complicated plot issue.
  6. Pominville took longer to break into the league than O'Reilly did, but he seems to have better scoring (slightly inflated by the post lockout rules, but still better). Pommers was always defensively responsible, whereas O'Reilly is one of the best defensive forwards in the game. Also, as 11 said, he's a center. I give the edge to O'Reilly. Fun fact: Pommers has played all 82 games of a season 7 times.
  7. After having seen the Magic Mike sequel recently, I would really like a gay buddy cop duo between him and Channing Tatum. The Men with Fair Square Jaws.
  8. This is what I'm expecting out of him, but only for ~40 games.
  9. I really hated Taylor Kitsch at first, but once he stopped squinting and had a few character moments I warmed up to him. The part the pisses me off is that he's really only been importantly featured in 3 episodes. How can you have an entire episode where one of your main characters does nothing? I knew I'd love Colin Farrell in this ever since I saw him in In Bruges. I had a feeling I'd love Vince Vaughn and he hasn't disappointed. His character has a couple pacing issues, but I think his has been the most consistent story line. Rachel McAdams is a wonderful actress being given some eh material. She's good, but Anti isn't doing it for me.
  10. Is that a tree? No, it's the Vancouver stealth tank. for reference, this was us last year: FTM. F'in Tim Murray.
  11. Yeah... but it's not just small details that are being lost in the noise of this complicated season. I consider myself to be a pretty astute show watcher, and after having seen most of season 2 at least twice it's just too jumbled. You can hide details, but the lack of focus or unity in the story line is causing this season to be significantly less engaging than season 1 was. Hell, every time season 1 showed an overhead shot of the swamps I would get chills. The beginning of season 2 showed all the posts with pink ribbon on them and that gave me chills at first. I really like the story implications of what the pink ribbons might mean, and they've expanded on this particular piece of visual story telling... but not enough, not in any central way. I'm liking the season, but it's not consuming me.
  12. I agree wholeheartedly. I was just playing "what was this guy trying to say?"
  13. Maybe by .5 million? Maybe that could've led to different decision trees about Yandle, but I doubt it.
  14. He's talking about RoR making the Sabres better and that luring Yandle via FA (he's a UFA next Summer). RoR's deal would hurt our acquiring him in a trade because it depleted a lot of our liquid assets.
  15. Some of those stories had sequels, most do not
  16. I really want to pair Moulson with Eichel. Who would be the RW for that line? Ideally, I'd like a power forward to open up space for Moulson. Girgensons makes the most sense, even though I really want to put Ennis there. Moulson is at his best when he's lurking in the offensive zone, drifting in and out of the gaps in the defense. Considering we never had any offensive zone time last year, no wonder his numbers were down. Now that Eichel is the one surveying the offensive zone looking for the space, Moulson will be back to scoring ~25 goals.
  17. I was just in Wildwood for a beach frisbee tournament the past few days, so your story especially resonated. Blip from this weekend: I was cutting through the middle of a dance floor and a girl stopped me, ran her fingers through my hair and told me it was beautiful. I said thank you and we continued on our separate ways. That might have been all she wanted to say, but I suspect the fact that my hair was soaking wet was what decided her against me. Dancing is sweaty work, and I. Sweat.
  18. He shoots boogers out of both nostrils.
  19. I like the way Weave and weave both look (as in physical shape of the word). qwksnd looks so much better to me than Qwksnd. That big, dumb Q just ruins the look. I'm very (case) sensitive guy. Speaking of personal problems, I have an apostrophe to share with you. '
  20. I miss him too (and immediately thought of him when I saw this thread) I've never really cared about non-hockey management personnel. I don't really like Brandon or Black, but I've never disliked them strongly (maybe only a little). I think the Bills' marketing has been less tone-deaf than the Sabres', but not by much. freeman is right that there should have been a FO/management purge when Terry took over for the Bills, but that doesn't mean that there still aren't talented people that were involved when the Bills were terrible.
  21. At least they're finally blowing it up and starting to take their medicine.
  22. Nobody should. (also does my q look capitalized to you?) I'm with you on Bogo. Weave's also right that he has a lot of miles (and injuries) already.
  23. Tiger Mountain Peasant Song by the Fleet Foxes. The performers are a Swedish sister duo called First Aid Kit. I am obsessed with this song. I've played it so many times over the past week that I almost posted a recording of me playing it instead of these ladies.
  24. :worthy: Can we get the replay on that? Wow.
  25. Doesn't one have to be on top first before they're back on top? Or are you referring to their 1967 Stanley Cup?
