Schoeny, Gare, Bert in that order. Age has a lot to do with it. I was present as a kid when Schoeny took on 3 Bruins, spilling into the Zamboni corrider. Gare scores seconds into his NHL career to open the season. Bert was, well, the best there was and a pleasure to watch. I remember Carriere quoted as saying Bert made playing easy - get the puck, take it behing the net, wait for Bert to come back and get it - watch him go 200 feet and you're plus 1.

i'd also throw in losing to the isles in both 76 and 80. those were cup quality teams and the ens was just awful.

Back when I had the DirecTv sports pack, even without CI you'd get the pre and post game shows. I'd often listen to the game on XM radio and turn on the TV postgame show

Didn't remember Bones played for anyone but the Sabres. That team was deserving of a better fate - it was crushing losing to the Isles, who wouldn't lose a playoff series for several years

Agreed, PA. BUT - I haven't enjoyed watching a Sabre rookie as much as Eichel since Bert, Rico, and Schoeny. Good times are on the horizon - we'll be as much fun to watch and winning like the current Tampa team soon

I'm surprised it took awhile before Bill Hajt was mentioned. Best defensive defensemen is either Ramsey or Hajt, hands down in my opinion.
