  1. Nice to hear. Things like this are why I don't like when people get down on a player. His ability may not have been in the top of the NHL but his head and his heart were always in the right place. Murray earns a lot of player respect by working a trade for a guy who is respected in the locker room and sending him to a great location.
  2. In the realm of overreaction to risks and events.. They banned the public from the beach after this happened. http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/27/us/florida-plane-crash-lands-on-beach/ No, not really.
  3. It was pretty awesome. Just for him to have the opportunity being the huge hockey lover he is.
  4. You know where you can take your facts...
  5. Yep. We all know what the prospectus is on Torres. He's due another suspension, right... about.... Besides Marlies are top in the league.. Toronto doesn't want that coming in. This was worse than any trade the Sabres made last year. A clear dump of space, people, everything.
  6. Why leave the stands? First, I've heard complaints the crowd isn't loud enough, wouldn't a crying child help that? Secondly, perhaps they don't expect everyone else to adjust their behavior. But you then go on to tell them how to adjust their behavior by telling them to leave the stands. So, by your logic. Crying baby means the parent should leave the stands. Drunk guy swearing his butt off should stay. Just want to be clear on who is in more control of their actions here and what behavior you want excused from the stands and what behavior you deem okay. It could be. They probably should be using earplugs... but then again most of us should be. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/07/sports/basketball/stoking-fans-excitement-arenas-pump-up-the-volume.html?_r=0 A season ticket holder could be doing more hearing damage than taking a kid to a single game. It's not really a kid thing so much as it is a hearing protection issue. Certainly kids ears are impacted more but again.. earplugs negate the impact. The key here is to have a few children and see what in your life you are willing to give up because of it. You won't know until you have your own children. Believe me.
  7. It's a good point. Along the same lines they mentioned Gotisbehere who is from Florida. He was born in 93. The Panthers debuted around when he was born. They made their cup run a few years afterward. I am sure that sparked a growth in hockey interest in his market as well. I mean.. he's not as heralded as Gotisbehere but the Flyers rookie is lighting it up right now..
  8. Yep. Hop Stoopid had a lot of haters because some purists called it cheating. I called it one of the best bargain you could (and still can) find. It's a great beer. Hop oils are becoming more common. I think there is still a stigma attached with some pro brewers but those will fade. It's amazing how consistent brewers are with hop pellets these days. Knowing the AA's on each crop really helps them lock it in and the professional systems are built for consistency. Still, I would venture a guess that even marginally the oils would produce a more consistent result.

The big kid in the puck drop photo is mine. What an awesome time. The Amerks looked really tired (3rd game in 3 days) but they pulled out the win. Carrier looked really good out there.
  10. He was Giloolied? Dang.
  11. Using hop oil is an experiment in the extreme. It's not a bad thing by any means but it's easy to really send things awry. You got them right. A lot of brewers will use some kind of flavor extract to get the notes they are looking for rather than actually using the ingredient. It's a noticeable different. I feel like Dirty Little Freak does down that path. I've never had Sweet Baby Jesus but I'm not a huge fan of peanut butter chocolate beers overall. Freak is decent, but one a night or splitting one is about all I want.
  12. Good stuff! There is no downside to what you've done. Regardless of the level of play being on a fresh sheet of ice or out on a pond is the definition of heaven (for me). Games and practices and the noise of actual hockey is nice but to only hear the sound of skates cutting the ice.... oh man.
  13. Well, the bright side is that he is going to get some much needed rest!
  14. When Jagr entered the league I really disliked him.... I respected his talent but I didn't like him. Now I wish he never left the NHL and I have to root for him all the time. He's simply amazing and one of the best of all time.
  15. WAtch the game then head down to see the AMerks play and then head back and play my SUnday night game. It's all hockey all day for me. I love it. Go Sabres!
  16. After this past weekend in Pittsburgh I was able to grab some beers not in the WNY area. Always been a fan of Deschutes... Black Butte Porter is amazing. Brought home their Fresh Squeezed IPA... BAM.. that's a seriously good beer. Dirty Little Freak from Duclaw is interesting. I'm not sold on DuClaw though. A little too much flash without the amazing quality to back it up. Not horrible beers but nothing spectacular.
  17. Google Image Search "Robin Lehner" Just look at that face. He has a stare that can cut through mountains. Great game. Here's my overly expert opinion. "It's just fun to watch now."
  18. My understanding is police said it started over whose bottle of vegemite it was...
  19. His shots may be from low percentage areas but as you will hear all the time. "100% of the shots you don't take, don't go in." So, I appreciate his willingness to get the pucks to the net rather than circle around for a perfect opportunity that may not come. If you do it right then you have guys crashing the net while he carries the puck and you increase the odds of scoring. How often do people complain about players who can't get shots through to the net? At least he can. I can appreciate why you are saying what you are saying with regards to the 50 goal scorer comparison. It's nice to have aspirations and targets to work toward. It's been said of his game that he would benefit from a little more east-west in his style. I have seen a bit of that lately as well. Perhaps it comes along, perhaps not. But I certainly appreciate a guy who will carry the puck straight up the ice and run over anyone standing in his way. Not to be confused with speculaas which would be so much sweeter.
  20. As was posted by JJ, and has been upheld in many articles on concussion, the awareness of a person with concussion will vary greatly. He wasn't skating all over the ice to find something to hit. Everything i saw immediately after the hit indicates he was operating on instinct. All players, when banged up, head to the bench. All players know there can be contact near their bench doors and he saw a body near the door of his intended target (his bench door). Players are trained to engage in body contact with those targets. He did so and it happened to be a ref who wouldn't be expecting such contact. "Down goes Frasier." I don't even mind the 20 game suspension. "Stuff happens". But the fact that his team let him back on the ice after a player who just took a shot to the head and one who has "no history of these kinds of actions" that just jacked an official chose to ignore those signs and place him on the ice is disgusting. The fact that the league is holding themselves blameless in this is disgusting. I am hoping that Wideman chooses to pursue this issue further and even goes so far as to bring a lawsuit against the Flames and the NHL for not following their own protocol and for putting him back into play with the potential to suffer even greater head trauma.
  21. See, your problem is that you forgot to take into account TMF when creating your advanced statistic. TMF = Troll Modification Factor. The Troll Modification Factor is a percentage modifier to a real world statistic. It is calculated by dividing the troll capacity by the troll's perceived value in the world and subtracting it from 1. The modification factor is then multiplied by the real statistic to produce the desired fancy stat. Example: Evander Kane Shots = 197 Evander Kane games played = 47 Troll Capacity = 98% Troll Perceived Value = 1 (it's always 1 as trolls believe they are the best) 1 - (.98/1) = .02 Kane S/G = 4.2 TMF S/G = .084 Therefore, he always misses the net.
  22. He's the biggest PeeWee on his team too. I mean, they say holding kids back so they can be successful can really help their confidence levels. I'm looking forward to him being a Bantam so we can start checking the other kids though. At 36 I think he'll really be able to lay the hurting on the other team. He's basically 12. (a few weeks from it)
  23. FW is not just aged beers. Easy Jack is one of my favorites... they just happen to also be excellent at bigger beers as well! By the way Port Brewing/Lost Abbey is probably worth the stop.
  24. Not to be a me too with Tom but.. me too. I don't look at stats. I am looking at his play on the ice. I think the defensive problems are real but they should not be laid at Pysyk's feat. I'd look at McCabe and Bogosian first. Bogosian just hasn't been all that overwhelming this year to me. The D corps is thin. If the Sabres are moving Pysyk it has to be part of a multi-player deal that would net a better D in return.
  25. Did Chad Johnson's value just go up?
