The only common sense measurement of success that I consider universally accepted is winning. By that common sense measurement, the jury had not yet been charged, let alone returned a verdict. And no, your expectation is based on faith, not realism. And that is 100% OK , but don’t mischaracterize it. Realism would be expressing that a 1 yr trend is not a trend, and that the playoffs are still a hope, not an expectation based on data or history. I know this line of discussion makes it sound like I am pessimistic. I’m actually not, with the caveat that it depends on Levi being a stone cold success. I like the direction, I like the 2 d men they brought in. I like how they finished the season and think it is reasonable that it continues come October. But KA hasn’t done enough to better ensure it. Like I said earlier though, I won’t judge him in the preseason. I’ll judge him when the last 16 teams are playing. Prior to that, you can’t really determine success, or failure for that matter.

Denial? Hold on for too long? Holy *****, what is with wishing that teams give up? They have a player that is still arguably one of the top 2-3 in the league, a 2C that is still 1C level, an all star on the wing. And they aren’t ready to give up either. They just did what they should be doing, cashing in every season that they still have top end talent on the roster. The losing will come. It always comes. There is no reason to hasten it along.

I’m expecting it is could*. Unless he is predicting a prophylactic will be necessary if we ever win a cup.

I have no problem with you being content with last season’s results. I do not agree that KA should share your sense of accomplishment.

I never said failure. That is your word. I’m not going to use the word success though either, because ultimately the team didn’t.

I thoroughly expect that there won’t be as many changes as I think should be made. I’m not going to judge KA on it. I am going to judge him on whether the Sabres are one of the last 16 teams playing hockey this season. As for what he should have done last season….. it’s a performance based business. All I know is, there wasn’t Sabres hockey to watch when the last 16 teams were playing. He needed to get the team 2pts better. He didn’t do enough. Period. I don’t care about the reasons why. I care that 16 other teams found a way and ours wasn’t one of them.

I suppose. But it’s a bit like saying the tank was a success because we landed one of the two top players even though the process prevented team success. As successes go, it’s pretty empty. The cultural overhaul is going to be meaningless if on ice success doesn’t materialize.
