Plodding Protected Passable Plebian Pick one

And we are way past references to the failures of GMTM. 1. He made way more draft picks than anyone gives him credit for. 2. The core is drafted already, and there is a bonafide surplus in the system. We are way past risking losing prospect depth at this point.

The bolded confuses me. There is nothing radical about seizing an opportunity and going for it. It would not have been radical leading up to last seasons trade deadline to give up some of what we have in excess for a playoff push. We knew we were close then. We can only assume we may be close again this time. And the game KA playing, while appears to be low risk, actually has significant risk. As I have been saying so frequently lately, the future is not guaranteed. This season could be the season Tage develops career changing knee issues, or Dahlin, or our unproven goalie savior the we are leaning so heavily on. Ottawa or Detroit could suddenly spit out an unexpected superstar (like we just did), making our task even more uphill than it already is. KA is every bit as much rolling the dice by depending on a nearly fully team developing in unison as he would be by seizing the moment and moving some of what is collected to procure a more known quantity. You can’t assume KA’s way is the right way until it actually bears fruit. There are blossoms setting, but an unexpected frost or pestilence and there is no harvest. There is still offseason left. We’ll see what he does. The time is right for a move that solidifies playoffs, just as it was at the deadline last season.

You’ll really be clenched, as the kids say, after the chili supper. Edna’s chili has a reputation across Cattauraugus County.

I expect there is 0 chance of leadership change if we miss the playoffs as well. But *I* have very limited circumstances where failure to make the playoffs this season is excusable at all. We are at a point where the core is now identified and developed, we have good support pieces, and a fully stocked cupboard. The holes that need to be filled are obvious to all. If you are at the point where the holes are few and obvious, the solutions attainable, and you have excess assets…….. the runway should be very short.

Not couldn’t. Didn’t. As you’ve stated above, the price was too steep, he’s valuing his prospects to high, he didn’t get value. Not making the playoffs this season should be a fireable offense. Full stop.

Yeah, I’ve heard enough about that 2nd shot that I’ve been putting it off. I had shingles in my right eye, gotta be 10yrs ago now. I should know better than to put it off. Shingles seriously sucks.

If you saw the costs, then you know that “someone can get through college without loans if they try hard enough” is very far from a universal truth. -

There are only a handful of part time PA programs nation-wide, so if she continues down that path, I’m guessing you are going to know someone very soon who is up to their eyeballs in college debt. -

Your daughter is working her way through a pre-med program? Interesting. What kind of work is she doing while attending school part time? -

My son’s fiance went the pre-med route and ended up detouring after about $120k in school loans. Extremely smart girl (no idea what she’s doing hanging around the likes of my kin). She’s still well on a path to a good lifestyle, but man, the specter of being that far in debt for school loans at a young age has put some serious stress in their lives. -

You must only know boomers and gen Xers with degrees then. It has been a different world for almost 20 years now. I worked a barely over minimum wage job to pay for my first degree……. In 1985. Got my next 2 part time while working a decent, but not great job, paid for a house, started a family. 25yrs later my son attempted the same, except had a job that paid $6/hr over minimum wage. And he had to take out loans to finish at a community college. In high school he worked a farm and banked the money. It’s not enough anymore. Assuming it is still possible to work your way through college and not take out loans is being very unaware of reality today. -

He was guarded at first. I’m sure he’s been hounded his share of times. Fortunately I am an introvert so he didn’t get the sense he was going to be hounded. -
A dead puck era game plan and decent goaltending. I could see them as buyers at the deadline.

I’ve had public encounters with Rob Ray, Jim Lorentz, Larry Playfair, Dave Andrechuck, John Tucker, probably a couple of others, but never initiated a conversation beyond “hey, “player”. September 2010 I was at the clubhouse for The Links at Ivy Ridge for lunch after a round of golf and Rick Martin walked in with his foursome. He sat next to me at the bar. We had a pretty good conversation about the state of the Sabres. He was quite vocal in his disapproval of the state and direction of the team. He was very personable. It was a genuine thrill on my part to be talking to a boyhood hero. I was floored when he died the following Spring. -

I’ve been through a few job searches over the last decade. I am now on the backside of my 50’s. My most recent search was about 18mo ago. I have never had an employer even tangentially suggest age related concerns. That is a serious legal line those employers are crossing. And Inky, I’ve done my share of interviewing as well. I would never even consider putting approximate age in my interview notes. That could go sideways on you at some point.
