Cost benefit when the costs on one side is lives lost and the other side is economic health. Or prioritizing monetary health over physical health. The roots in that certainly lie in greed.
-
Sad truth. Too many people are prioritizing money over people. It’s been that way as long as trade has been around.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
Weave replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
If there are any Alton Brown fans out there, he’s posted a couple of live streams on his Youtube channel of him cooking dinner with his wife while they are locked down. If you enjoy his weirdness, they are damned funny. I’m pretty sure he’s rather drunk in the first one. My wife and I had quite a few belly laughs watching them. -
Then we both need one. My outlook is cynical.

Based on what’s happened in China and Italy, i think a shutdown limited to 15 days will cost lives. When Grandma and Grandpa start dropping things will get pretty angry.

GDT: 8pm. MSG-B. Whalers at Sabres: Last game at the Aud (4/14/1996)

Still have the poster every fan in attendance received for that game. It’s on my office wall at home. Lower blues, right behind the net Hartford defended twice. Brings a tear to my eye. -

Leadership certainly does set the agenda. It happens in every organization. If it isn’t Trump setting agenda for CDC, than his appointee sure is. And if the head of the CDC isn’t setting agenda and priorities why would Trump bother to replace these people when he came into office? (rhetorical) It makes no sense whatsoever to separate Trumps appointments from responsibility for their subsequent performance. And the idea that they were hamstrung by rules made under previous administrations doesn’t hold water either. This is a Presidency well into its 3rd year, not a new President, and they had several months warning of what was coming to change the agenda and priorities of the CDC. And we know our government was aware of the potential because several members made sure they profited from it. The actions of the Chinese govt sure got us to the point of pandemic. But the actions of this government ended up eerily similar to the Chinese govt actions.

The head of the Executive Branch sets policy and sets tone. We all know the tone that has been set in the press conferences to date. Until this week they've not set a tone indicative that science has been a priority.
-
The CDC is headed by a Trump appointee with a background including an HIV trial so botched he was investigated criminally for it. The failure's of the CDC are Trump failures, pure and simple.

Love me some Mike Peca, but 5 seasons, once over 50pts in a season. Pommer's 1st stint was 7.5 seasons with points ranging from 30-80. Peca's offensive game is overrated by Sabres fans. He wasn't Don Luce. Not that it matters. Gil wins P anyway.

Asymptomatic, no known contact. Do we test them weekly? Daily? Let's bathe them in tests.

Making beef short ribs, braised in chianti, over cheesy polenta with broiled asparagus. Just because I am stuck at home doesn't mean I need to eat like a savage. Hmmmm..... Port after dinner? *puts monocle back in dinner jacket pocket*

Obviously. But the real question is, why is that important in the midst of a pandemic? It's interesting that Paul was tested even though doing so was a flagrant violation of the CDC rules for testing that everyone else has to follow.
-
Anyone want to touch how Rand Paul, who had no symptoms and wasn't exposed to anyone to justify a self quarantine, was able to get tested when many showing symptoms can't get one?

I think we all can readily acknowledge that it is damned near impossible for the common man to rise above influencing at anything other than local level politics. The game has been rigged against that happening at the state level and up for generations. Hell, in most metropolitan areas the common man can't even rise to county level influence. The idea that "we" could get a foothold into that to make change seems far fetched.

I’m not sure why you are debating me. This was another epidemiologist saying this, not me. I suppose you’re more than welcome to question him though. Its not like questioning these folks hasn’t gotten us to our current situation.....

Singapore was specifically mentioned in the article I read due to its tropical climate, the lack of a cold season. But Brazil is on that graph as one of only a couple of southern hemisphere countries, and their rate of disease spread is trending along with the western European countries still in their cold season.
-
That was my point. The two countries that jump out at me as having trends similar to Europe and US are Australia and Brazil. Strongly suggests to me that a seasonal response may be wishful thinking
-
Singapore is the obedient society, not Australia. I didn’t think I worded my reply to suggest that. I don’t think it is any coincidence that the cultures with obedience more deeply ingrained are handling this better.
-
Agreed on Mike R. Best Sabre defenseman ever gets a nod over best 2 way forward.
-
The graph I posted on pg 29 shows how they have progressed. In Singapore, where they jumped on it early and the culture is one of obedience, the curve is flat like Japan and Hong Kong. In Australia the curve is trending like most of the western world.
-
Singapore and Australia currently disagree. I just read an article this AM discsussing likelihood that this may be a seasonal virus. The concern is, Singapore and Australia are effected enough right now to suggest there is not a seasonal component.
