This is from the twitter account of @justinwolfers econ prof at Michigan Point is, these data show that ZERO actual economists believe that the economic costs of current anti-Covid measures exceed the benefits. NO ECONOMISTS are arguing for re-opening the economy. It's pretty rare to see this degree of consensus among econs. http://www.igmchicago.org/surveys/policy-for-the-covid-19-crisis/

I think Cuomo mentioned today that projections in NYC are peak in 21 days. The rest of the country (minus Seattle) is well behind NYC.

This is the same kind of thought process that brought us 8 years with no .22 ammo on store shelves because folks whipped themselves into an unjustified frenzy that Obama was going to take their guns.

When they legislate away freedom of association like they legislated away due process and probable cause I'll be standing right there with you. Emergency powers aren't even being utilized by our federal government.

Yeah, I’m sure the next time the government wants to encroach on our rights they’ll make the restaurants sell takeout again.

Freedom does require actually living. I think most folks are smart enough to understand that willingly giving some things up temporarily is necessity to preserve freedoms once this thing passes/

Worst case projections are ranging from 1.1 to 2.2M deaths, assuming minimal mitigation. What gets us to the well below 1M range is what we are doing today. So yes, it is a choice between financial and physical health. And there is still no reason you've mentioned as to why we wouldn't want to mitigate the outcomes of the resulting financial downturn that doesn't include "we don't want to pay for it". Frankly, I don't buy your thought that those efforts lack effectiveness when what they've really lacked in the past is the high level wherewithal to put serious efforts into it.
-
Numbers of deaths in the millions absolutely are the projections being made if we cannot flatten the curve. I’m honestly surprised you haven’t come across these numbers.
-
And you think that these societal consequences would be less after the loss of several million of our friends, children, spouses, and siblings?
-
And these also would require action to mitigate. What other reason would we choose not to do this other than it would cost us more money?
-
Cost benefit when the costs on one side is lives lost and the other side is economic health. Or prioritizing monetary health over physical health. The roots in that certainly lie in greed.
