  1. You have to give Granato a season where the directive from above is to win games. All we can determine currently is he is successful at developing hockey players. But the only tools he’s been given to date are development tools, not winning tools. Of course the GM has to do his part to demonstrate that the directive is to win games.
  2. You might be on to something. The ones with playoff experience are slow, grizzled old vets and the rest have never seen a playoff game, and don’t know how to carry the mail.
  3. Pro tip - If you don’t post this with obvious scorn you aren’t adequately conveying your vast knowledge of the subject.
  4. Yeah, you’re right. I know nothing about statistics. *eyeroll emoji* What I do know is that the goals for stats don’t tell the story regarding this teams inability to overcome an opponent who is committed To clogging lanes and develop sustained high danger opportunities , resulting in primarily transient scoring chances. Yes, the goalies suck. The team also sucks at preventing forced and unforced turnovers leading to opportunities the other way. But you be you and go right to your typical condescending response as a first reaction.
  5. Yeah, when metrics come to conclusions like this, I have less interest in metrics.
  6. I’ll add 1 more to your list. This team has yet to figure out how to get past an opponent committed to playing tight, close checking hockey. We don’t have “something” that allows us to successfully play through it. Whatever “something” is, they need alot more of it.
  7. I gave up at the end of period 1. My eye didn’t see what the analytics saw. My eye saw a team that was forced into poor passes and one off chances with hurried shots. There were transient chances, but little sustained dangerous play. And Way too many forced and unforced turnovers. The goalie play was substandard. But the play of the team was substandard overall. I saw a Nashville team that was prepared to put sticks and bodies as close to a Sabre as possible, and a Sabres team that was unable to overcome the tight coverage. If periods 2 and 3 were similar to period 1, that was a team wide beating, not a goalie beating. Yeah, and that ain’t a plan.
  8. Eleven covered it fairly well, actually. Unless you are talking about a fairly big city or corporate bar, alot of bars are small, family owned businesses with small budgets. That’s why ADA grandfathers in existing establishments. The cost to renovate to make an old building handicap accessible would shut a number of small businesses down.
  9. Noon and still on page 1. Everyone running for the buses now.
  10. A bar in Erie Pa with massive profits?
  11. JohninMinn - offhand comment that may not be accurate SHAAAUGHT!!! - Challenge accepted
  12. We don’t have a Markus Foligno to put on a line with him. Will be interesting to see if he can gel with what we have on the roster.
  13. Because that is what KA told us to expect in his presser after deadline.
  14. Looks like that wish might get granted now that Greenway is listed as day to day
  15. There needs to be a team wide commitment to producing a winning season. Looking at you Kevyn. It’s overdue.
  16. Start a new thread. 😁
  17. The Enduring Moderation of Mediocre One of the things that is remarkable about mediocre is the extent to which it has retained its meaning over the course of more than four centuries of continual use. The word, when used as an adjective, has changed very little, if at all, in its meaning since it was used in a 1586 book titled The English Secretorie(our earliest known evidence): “Mediocre, a meane betwixt high and low, vehement and slender, too much and too little as we saye. . . .” The word comes to English via Middle French from the Latin word mediocris, meaning "of medium size, moderate, middling, commonplace," and perhaps originally "halfway to the top." The noun form of mediocre is mediocrity.
  18. It says alot about how little there is that another lost season might be celebrated as the best of an era. I mean, a feverish run for 9th place is a lofty goal now.
  19. Fork tender. They are done.
  20. They aren’t a playoff team. Thats my only thought.
  21. Weezer is playing Darien Lake this Summer. Illegally probably grab tickets to that one.
  22. He sure can. He’s never seen an NHL game shot.
  23. Now go get a #1 goalie.
  24. Emphasis on “at least” in terms of expectations.
