This just in. Sabres and Oilers are good
apuszczalowski replied to dejeanneret's topic in The Aud Club
Just to point out from the original post the part about Arizona losing out on the top 2 and being last in the preseason, out of the 3 teams being discussed, they also probably did the least of them to change over their roster and are depending more on the very good youth in theor system to step forward in the next year or 2. Buffalo used a good chunk of their youth to buy nhl ready top guys who are now suiting up for them and Edmonton already has a bunch of top of the draft guys with NHL experience and made a move to shore up their biggest weakness in net. -

Hiller in Calgary could be available? I like Lehner but think it could take a bit of time for him to get into being a solid goalie after being out for a bit. -
This helps the defence way more then the prosecution. All they have to do now to throw out anything from the kit or almost any evidence in the case that has been in possession of the police in the same area as this kit is say that if security was lax enough to allow this to get out, then who's to say that anything else in their custody could have been tampered with? What doesn't make sense is why it was left at the mothers house insyear of destroyed or tampered with and put back? And now this incident could put the kit evidence out because it could be argued that they don't know now if it's possible someone did something to it before hand. I would say that there is very little chance unless they have video or audio proof he did something to the girl to actually convict him.

this is the worst place to be at to play Centre if your not one of the leagues established superstars. Do people really think that for a franchise player like Stamkos he would not immediately step in as the #1 Centre?

Eliminating the legal issues, why would you nor make this deal for reinhart? Your basically giving up Moulson and a pick tk get a local kid who already is what reinhart may become. And after seeing what his siblings have done so far, I would be leary in putting a big wager on Sam becoming anything big in the NHL. But of course that's only if the legal issues aren't true and he did nothing wrong. Otherwise that and the drunken partying would not be worth the headaches of even considering a deal.......

Yup, Laughs were owned by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. I believe Rogers and Bell are also in the ownership group now too. At one point the Otario Teachers Pension fund was also part of the ownership group too

at least he didn't have one of those pesky Tim Hortons drive thrus jump out in front of him.... for a first time offence I don't know if I would go immediately to firing, mostly cause the players wouldn't get the same treatment, but I would see no issue with a suspension similar to what players might face. And there are many jobs where someone could get fired for getting arrested. Many workplace contracts have stipulations in them that if you do something that Ciuld publicly tarnish the image of the company you could be terminated. Most places on a first time of fence like this where no one was hurt would be more inclined to suspend and give time for treatment, but many of those places have that because of unions that will fight to have them sent to treatment first.

Thanks for coming here and telling us how everyone should think and exactly how teams should be built.... It's funny how you list the "new look stars" who haven't done anything on the ice to be cup contenders, and about half that core has been acquired via trades for picks , prospects, and player. It a true fact that the only way to build a team that can win the cup is to acquire your roster through drafting and not trading away picks and prospects for established talent.

babock leaving the leafs already to go to the penguins? When did that happen? Quest that's why Lou was brought in so he can take over as coach.....

How successful has Lou been without Marty in goal? When I think of the success the Devils have had, it's usually been because of Marty in his prime

the team has been profitable when they had lemieux/jagr and crosby/malkin. Otherwise I believe they have been in position for bankruptcy multiple times in their history. They are going to get close to $700-800 mil because they have crosby and malkin right now who are profitable players (jerseys and other merchandise plus appearances and sponsors). The Sabres sold for much less cause they didnt have the big name marketable guys when sold and because the market is not looked at as a big profitable market. Sure they sell out with some of the lower to mid level priced tickets, but it's a blue collar area that isn't going to be able to spend huge for what they get cheap now. Leafs and rangers could have no marketable talent and strip the team bare of nhl talent and prospects and they would still sell for an extremely high amount just because of the market

I thought the league had QC as one of the locks for expansion or relocation like vegas and seattle since the arena is almost done and it hinged more on finding an owner with the money to do it more then anything. I know MLB has montreal as one of the locks to get a relocated team or expansion once they can get a deal for a new stadium

that's when I find playing it net the most fun. I hate the nights where my defence is keeping g them out of our end and I face little Shota. Sometimes that's when you have tour worst game cause you end up sleeping or less focused case nothing is going on for you. You might face a ton of Shots, let a bunch in and lose but you feel like you got your money's worth out of the game. It's even more fun when you face a ton of Shota and win the game too.....

John Shannon: "The Sabres would be better not making the playoffs"
apuszczalowski replied to beerme1's topic in The Aud Club
I think one of the biggest myths around here is that they have to take a certain amount of time to take a team to the status of being a contender. There is nothing wrong with them making the playoffs this year, that should always be the plan. The only issue would be with whether you sell the prospects and young players for older rentals to try and do it which the Sabres won't be doing. If they are in the hunt for the playoffs this year I don't see TM sitting back at the trade deadline and saying they don't want to try and make them. They will probably be a buyer at the deadline but won't be selling the farm just for a rental to help this year. With free agency and trades no team needs to take more then a couple years to turn their franchise around if they have competent people in charge of doing it. -
I don't think Price repeats this year's performance (most goalies dont) and that would have the Canadians crashing back down to earth. They will be a playoff team, but I don't think they stay at the top without some moves

I can't see them out tanking the Leafs who appear to have come to the decision that its better late tehn never to enter the "McDavid Sweepstakes"

Actual NHL Trades -- Discuss 'em in here.
apuszczalowski replied to Samson's Flow's topic in The Aud Club
Now you just have to think Murray is in his office thinking he has to make a deal using Sam in the next few days just to make it a Reinhart trifecta! After they picked up O'Reillys brother today, you would have thought for the cost of what the Oilers and Preds paid Murray could have reunited all the Reinharts on the team too. Then he just needed to get the better Foligno to complete the "Family" -

Well technically the Canucks still were able to use their piece of that deal to obtain a pick and Prust, Buffalo gets the privelege of paying Hodgson a couple million to go away....... -
the entire country of Canada did....

Would have loved to see Hamilton here after he played for the ice dogs but doubt Boston makes the deal with Buffalo (also would like to see subban the goalie). So who's left in Boston from the Kessel deal now? could have also been nice to see Murray bring reinhart in to play with his brother... -
TM may or may not be done this weekend, but there's still going to be a few moves made because there's some excess forwards now that will need to be moved. Doubt we see any more blockbusters from the Sabres, but I would not be surprised to see some guys moved for picks and prospects to get rid of some of the extra forwards and maybe move around in the upcoming rounds.

it's a deep draft, and with 3 picks today they walk away with Eichel, a potential franchise goalie in Lehner and an young established top 6 forward with NHL experience. I don't see how that's a bad draft when they could have just had Eichel and 3 players with potential that would probably not sniff the NHL for years to come and still not be guaranteed to be anything really special. The depth in the draft was in the guys in the top 10, maybe top 15. The rest isn't that much different to every other year.... -

you realism that just because he said he wants to build through the draft, it doesn't mean they will only have players who were drafted by them. Sometimes you draft and use those prospects to obtain quality established players to go with the younger prospects. Today has really shown that buffalo fans will never be happy. They picked up a good young goalie with upside and #1 potential, and a top 6 forward for picks and prospects. They have enough pucks and prospects but they had no established NHL players. They haven't even reached free agency yet and they have already improved their NHL roster to the point where you can say that they have the potential to end the season in a race for the post season with a couple veteran additions. This is going to be a young talented team witha a core that can be together for years to come
