What happens when Robin Lehner comes back?
apuszczalowski replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Aud Club
I would trade Johnson + to Toronto to try and get Bernier from them. Reimer looks like he will be their guy and Vernier is out. They want picks/prospects so give them Johnson to back up Reimer now and let Bernier and Lehner battle for the top spot letting Ullmark play in Rochester. You can never have too many good goaltenders in the system I would have said trade Lehner or Johnson but you know TM won't trade away his boy so quickly.... -
Looking at the forwards roster and I don't see many that are huge goal scorers in the league. Sure there are many that can score, but not many that do it ALOT. I have never been as high on Moulson as many here, I thi K he is overrated by many and not much more then a mid level player. Ennis is in the doghouse cause he cost them 2 goals by being offsides and Kanes been hurt. Gionta I do think is going to give you much more at his age then being a veteran locker room presence/leader. On the ice I don't see him making much of an impact.

The Stars can't be that good, they have lost to the Leafs twice this season..... -
I would prefer seeing Moulson used in a package to get something. I have never seen him as anything special

Last game which I was all prepared to watch, was blacked out here on Bell because it was the NBC game on Tuesday which I could not get (TSN and Sometimes all had other games on) Tonight's game is on, but so is the football game I will be watching instead and I guess flipping back to this game. I don't know if I like their chances tonight, they seem to struggle when facing Luongo -
Why is Babcock considered to be a great coach?
apuszczalowski replied to z-man's topic in The Aud Club
The Canadian media (mostly Toronto) have been talking about how his coaching is so good that he has the Leafs overachieving right now I never understood the hype even when the Sabres were pushing for him, his cup win came with Detroit at theirs of their prime. Since then they seem to be getting slowly worse each year (yet still a playoff team). If you listen to his former players, seems like none were sad to see him go -
I have seen the old leather gloves and blockers first hand and have blocker and gloves that are not as big as the old stuff
-
hmmmmmm, glove and blocker on Miller hardly look bigger, and his leg pads actually look less bulky then the older stuff. The pants and chest protector are bigger because again, shots now come off the ice and pretty much everyone can shoot the puck in the air much harder and faster then before. The difference in the equipment t over the years is the weight, the old leather stuff was heavy, today's stuff is lighter and allows goalies to be much quicker. Should the nhl make the put weights into their equipment so they can't play as fast too? that would be too difficult, easier to just modify equipment and nets to change the game and make sure everyone can score
-
that was also a time where the players could rarely hit the top corners and the puck never could reach 100mph off a players stick. The game has evolved and now teams are looking for big guys to fill the nets. It's now common to see goalies who are 6'-6" or more who's body size takes up more of the net and the days of 5'-10" goalies are being pushed out unless they have unbelievable talent. It's not an inch or 2 larger equipment bringing the scoring down.
-
Why not just get rid of the goalie altogether? Then they can make the entire back ends of the rink the net so ever puck that goes back past the defence is a goal and we can all enjoy basketball scores in hockey? Either that or they should just do away with goal tending equipment and they can block shots like defence men. When s prong goes up, will they make tweaks to the players equipment to make it harder to score goals?

I could see them doing this just as an excuse to get more cap space and get out of his deal. it's because he probably was........

who doesn't?

Chad Johnson, welcome back to the bench........... -
I have never been impressed with Murray, he seems a bit cocky for someone who has never held this position before So far he hasn't wowed me with any deal as he seems to not care what he has to spend to get what he wants and overpays for it Is he an improvement over Regier though, definitely, but then I believe even the dumbest Chimp would have been an improvement over him....... This idea that there is some set path that you have to follow and that it takes time to get this team turned around is completely bogus in the age of free agency. This team is weak on defence right now (not horrible but not anything to write home about) and has nothing in place in net right now. I didn't have a problem with lehner coming in to compete for the #1 spot, but there seems to be no backup plan aside from hoping in a few years there will be a starter ready down in Rochester. With lehner going down for some time it would have been nice to see the Sabres atleast try and show that they weren't just going to coast through another year and not make an attempt at going for a playoff spot and try to get a veteran to fill the crease, instead they just say they are going to ride Johnson and see what happens. I don't expect them to make the playoffs this year, but I do expect them to atleast try and make it look like thats the goal. Winning and trying to even squeak into the playoffs in the 8th spot isn't going to ruin this team or set them back. Unfortunately alot of Lemmings seem to believe that they have to follow one path that takes years before they can start to say the words playoffs.

Nathan Lieuwen sent down, goalie move coming?
apuszczalowski replied to Hoss's topic in The Aud Club
even hasek had a backup goalie..... -
this would be true if Kane was just a player the Jets were looking to move for assets to rebuild, but he wasn't, he's a top 6 forward that the Jets wanted gone. There's GMs use that to their advantage and don't have to give up a bunch to get them because they are helping the other team out by taking a headache (which he was to the jets) off their hands. The trade wasn't horrible cause the Sabres got some good players in it, but there's no way it was a win for the Sabres. The sabres had the advantage and upperhand making the deal cause not many at the time would give up anything of value to the Jets that season for someone who wasn't going to help them til the next season. Since Buffalo was throwing their season anyways they could deal good roster players away for someone who can help the next year
-
I wouldn't call the trade a bust just yet for either side. I would say that so far the Jets got the better end of the deal and it will be tough for the Sabres to get that changed. I believe that TM gave up way too much for Kane. When a player is being ran out of a locker room (Kane was not well liked and looked at as a problem) and a team is trying to dump them because they view the player as a problem, you can play hardball and should get the player for less then value cause your taking on someone else's problem. Throw in the other upper hand Buffalo had in that they could take on a player who wouldn't help them last season at all for guys who could help the Jets on their playoff run that year and he should have been able to make the deal for only a fraction of what he gave up (ie Myers and maybe a pick or the other guys without Myers, etc.). TM did have an abundance of resources available to give up to get what he wanted, but a better GM could have kept some of those to use to restock the cupboards later or use in Another deal. It may come back to bite TM in the backside that he has been too willing to give up slot just to get what he wants (Kane, O'Reilly and Leaner) Cox might have a better argument that the O'Reilly deal has been a bigger bust so far......
-
please, no one is going to run Murray out of town All he has to do is give them some puppy dog eyes and say in a sultry voice "zero ****s given" and they will all be back to fighting over who gets to sit next to him during his HOF ceremony speech.
-
you don't get it, making the playoffs when your not the favorite to win a cup is a bad thing for the team and it's development. You have to only do what the Blackhawks and Pens did exactly or else you will never have a cup contending team. TANK on!
-
I'd start making a call to Calgary and see what it would take for Hiller
-
maybe that's why they had him at the lunch. Figure they could feed him and try to bulk him up a bit....
-
Looking at the video, if that was any other player I doubt it gets much if anything especially if the player isnT badly hurt. I saw it and don't think the hit looked that bad, or any worse then what they typically let go.

sounds more like you can't quit blue.......

This just in. Sabres and Oilers are good
apuszczalowski replied to dejeanneret's topic in The Aud Club
I don't know if I would say they are last year's Sabres (ie top of the draft or bust, we are going to lose on purpose for the best pick). I think that given the mess of the ownership/lease situation along with not getting into the top 2 last year their rebuild is taking a little longer and is going to be more about the home grown talent in the system taking over rather then the Sabres approach of keeping some of the prospects and dealing a bunch of others for better nhl talent (o'Reilly, kane, etc.)
