We got rid of Mike Weber?
-
Exactly. He's definitely a NHL talent. Like you said, he's not a guy who will blow up the scoreboard, but is very useful in puck possession and fighting/winning pucks in the dirty areas, such as the corners. And he's an above average defensive forward. I think he's almost a lock to center the 3rd or 4th line next season in Buffalo.
-
I guess. But you can go through every draft and "re-draft". He's a heck of a player, but if we drafted him, we'd miss out on Risto, and the following year wouldn't have finished dead last and missed out on Ekblad, and next thing you know is we're creeping into the next Edmonton Oilers. He got a first rd pick for Thomas Vanek. Among many other big pieces of the future puzzle. Not a fan of the Darcy regime, but he has set Murray up nicely. I agree. And if they are not the best, the fact of having 3-4 first round picks next two drafts surely will put them over the top and even separate themselves from the 2nd best pool.

Jake McCabe signs 3 Year ELC with Sabres

Sabres make it official. Jake McCabe signs 3 year entry-level contract. -
I wish they would add more teams to this tournament. I wish this tournament had play-in games such as basketball. Cornell vs. Robert Morris and Michigan vs. Colgate in play-in. Or something like that. I just feel too many good teams each year are left out.

Devastating. Rest in peace. [*]

When was the last time you watched a full Sabres game

I cant think of the last game i didn't see in full... -
I heard from the mother of one of the players on St Lawrence, who was at their playoff series vs. RPI that Columbus was very keen on Greg Carey.

So who really is Joe Battista and does he belong with the Sabres

Boston fans were saying the same thing about Jeremy Jacobs about 10 years ago. It kinda worked out for them just fine.- 162 replies

I'd be lying if i said i wasn't bummed out about this news because I was all in for a full out tank. From a fans point-of-view. However, we all gotta realize how BS this was by the Sabres. League has to step in and stop it before it gets out of hand. Sabres to start the season put on the ice 3 teenagers against the Dallas Stars during a PP. The entire arena booo'ed when they couldn't even get the puck out of their own end. It wasn't a "we're good enough" it was, we will field the worst possible team. There are several top elite prospects in the 2015 draft. I highly doubt, that by finishing dead last, we would finish outside the top-3. So, keep the tank on. And let's take a chance. This changes nothing in my mind in terms of our tank.

I dont know if i believe that. Thats very risky. If it was only Conner McDavid or bust, i agree, they wouldn't put all their hopes in a lottery to get 1 player, because odds are against them. However, Jack Eichl is a franchise type player, and if Matthew Barzel was in this draft, he'd go #1 too. In his last season of BCMML, he scored 103 points in 34 games. Compared to Sam Reinhart's 78pts in 34 games. Barzel didn't play the full season so we don't know how much better he would of done, but in the limited time he played in the WHL, he was a point per game scorer. Beyond that, Czech forward Pavel Zacha would probably be the 3rd player taken if he was in this draft. Very skilled winger. Has preformed really well at all levels and has won the title in Czech like 4years in a row. He was one of the youngest players at this past WJC but he didn't score any. He should be one of the better players next winter though.

Wasn't Murray also the GM of the AHL Sens when he won the Calder Cup there?
-
Definitely. Makes you wonder about all the rumblings from the media during the GM search that many started to believe that LaFontaine was just going to name himself as GM? It seems to me, when LaFontaine was interviewing people for the job, he was making it known that he has approval/veto power on the hockey department. Where there's smoke theres fire, right?
-
That would be awesome. Then maybe they can grab Thatcher Demko too? Almost seems too good to be true.

The NYR forum version of you probably said the same thing when they signed Mats Zuccarello.

Remaining schedule is pretty light -- could result in W's

Easy? Nothing is easy for this Sabres team. 12 of the last 17 are on the road, which includes a Western Canada trip. I think i just threw up. -
I meant to post this few days ago. Here's Bob Koshinski's take of Patty's firing... Rest- http://www.allsportswny.com/putting-ribbon-pat-lafontaine-story/

Lindy Ruff has done a great job in Dallas but my favorite part about his success is the motion by Sabres fans that he could never coach young players. "Young players come to die in Buffalo" i always heard. He's doing a pretty solid job with Valeri Nichushkin and Tyler Seguin.

Just because we're Buffalo doesn't mean everything we have sucks. Girgensons is viewed very highly throughout the league. Many "experts" said that leading up to the trade deadline when talking about our "untouchables" and for the most part they were all quoting GMs or scouts around the league.

OT: We are going to be nailed by a blizzard Wednesday

My roommate and I skied down Park Ave tonight to 7-11 and grabbed some frozen pizza. We didn't even think of calling for delivery cuz we would of felt bad having anyone drive just to give us food. lol -
Vanek couldn't enter the draft at age 17 because of his draft birthdate. You must be 18 years old as of September 15th of the draft year. For example, Tavares turned 18 on Sept 20th, and missed the 2008 draft by 5 days. As for Kevin Czuczman, the reason he wasn't drafted was because he fell into a different category. To be a North American player and be eligible for the draft, you can't be 20 years old or older as of December 31st of the draft year. His freshman year with Lake Superior was when he was 20 years old. Same with Chris Tanev from RIT, he was an overage player at RIT and thus when he left RIT, he became a free agent and never was entered for the draft. With Bennett vs. Seguin/Hall, the reason why his draft eligibility is when he's younger, he is currently 17, is because he has a late birthdate (June) and thus one of the youngest players in the 2014 draft.
