GDT: Sabres @ Rangers, 1/18/2018, 7:30pm ET /NBCS

The one thing I just don’t get is how bad Lehner is at shootouts or breakaways. Most goalies are pretty solid on that stuff. Goalie coach and possible sports psychologist would maybe help him out. I don’t put all the blame on just the goalie if you have some good defense that can move the puck quickly out of your end that also helps. Let’s face it besides Risto and possibly McCabe this defensive squad blows. -

One year it’s the defense, then it the goaltending, then it’s the offense. How about bad coaching, bad scouting. -

A lot of people are blaming Lehner for what’s going on but this defensive squad is pretty bad. -

Think about how many players that have left Buffalo and have won the Cup or players that left and played better hockey than when they played in Buffalo. -
Evander Kane: Where Will EK9 Be Trade Deadline Day?
SabresBillsFan replied to Swedesessed's topic in The Aud Club
Not coming to Vegas. Doesn’t fit what this team is doing. Vegas wants character players not guys that are selfish. He will go to one of the Commiefornia teams. -

Most players when they leave Buffalo play better. I blame coaching for not recognizing what each players strengths are and how to get the most out of each. -
Anyone Considered Cheering For a New Team?
SabresBillsFan replied to rickshaw's topic in The Aud Club
I grew up in Buffalo and my aunt got me into Sabres hockey because she was a season ticket holder right behind Buffalo’s Bench for years. We moved to Vegas in 89 and still followed the Sabres passionately. My Aunt every year on Christmas and my birthday would send me Sabres shirts and hats. Then all the talk about expansion started happening here in Vegas and it really happened to my surprise. I will tell you that if we would have a nhl team here I would have told you no way and that it would have been Basketball or Soccer. Now that we have the Knights here everyone I play hockey with here growing up liking other teams are now Knights fans. Yes they still root for their original team if they are here but the rest of the time its for the Knights. I ended up buying season seats and so far this season has been awesome. This team is very exciting to watch plus we have a lot of likeable players. Yes when Buffalo was here I had all my Buffalo gear on and was torn cheering for them. I still like the Sabres but these last 7 years have been absolutely draining. I ended up meeting Eichel, O Reilly, and Reinhart after the game just walking thru the plaza at T mobile Arena. I still like the Sabres but I think I’m more of a Knights fan now. My buddy is the same and he’s been a diehard Rangers fan since I can remember. -
DEADLINE DAY -- Sabres trade speculation
SabresBillsFan replied to matter2003's topic in The Aud Club
They should get at least a first rounder for him but here is my issue with this. It will be probably in the 20’s and the way the Sabres are with scouts don’t see them hitting on it. This team should be overhauling their amateur scouting so they can find players with speed and skill. This is why the Sabres are where they are because of this. Plus you get rid of a roster player to wait another 3-4 more years. How many more years you want to do this ? -
Problem is his skating. He’s just average and doesn’t have speed.
-
Bogo is complete garbage. Guy can’t play a complete season to save his life. Time to move on from him. As much as I liked how Murray was willing to make moves to try to make us better quickly his moves have failed miserably.
-
Arizona’s GM has no clue to what he is doing. When I went to the Arizona-NY Rangers game the building had no energy just like the Coyotes. Sad but they need some quality hockey people in that front office.
-
Arizona didn’t get enough for him. Not saying Duclair is great but more upside then Panik. Arizona has no clue to what they are doing.
-
I agree. My Aunt is the one that got me hooked. She was in the Sabres booster club for years, had season seats behind the Sabres bench for over two decades. I was watching them in the early 80’s and they had a handful of decent teams but enough is enough. Buffalo fans deserve better and this team the last 5-7 years has been a fan base killer. I just don’t see it getting fixed anytime soon.I moved away in 89 to Vegas and was a diehard fan since we moved but now that we have the Knights here my allegiance has shifted to the Knights as this is the way hockey should be played. Plus our T-mobile arena is awesome. The energy in this building is great every night.

I know as much as people hate Nolan they seemed to play hard for him. Last year was the defense and they bring in 3-4 New defenseman and they are worse. Now it seems like the forwards can’t score. They lack speed on this team. I don’t think the Sabres got the memo that the league is going younger with speed and skill not slow and lacking effort. I can see why Montreal got rid of Nathan the guy is a turn over machine. Every year is something with this team. Maybe Pegula should have invested heavily in amateur scouts since it seems like this is a huge part of the Sabres problem.
-
If I’m most teams GM I don’t offer too much for Kane. Definitely not one of my top three prospects. I would trade picks and a couple low end prospects. I would lowball Bots because you have a player who is gonna leave for more money and probably a winning organization anyways at the end of the season. I don’t see them turning this team around quickly. It’s probably gonna be a few more years.
-
It’s not gonna get better anytime soon. It would take a miracle for them to win the lotto. Besides Casey Mittelstadt their isn’t much this team has coming. They need help in all areas especially defenseman. They need speed and skill upfront. This team is a mess and it shouldn’t be. I hate to say this but this team had more effort when Nolan was coaching.
-
Watching the Sabres play turns me off from watching hockey. One year it’s the defense and goaltending! Now it’s everything. This team is a complete mess and Housley I think is in way over his head. I don’t mind losing as long as the effort is there but these guys don’t even put the work in.
-
I put a lot of blame on our amateur scouting. Look at the pipeline the last few years. It’s not so great. A lot of our success here was from Florida. Marchessault and Smith have been awesome. Then u put Karlsson on the line and that line has been a force. I live in Vegas and as much as people don’t like it most expansion teams weren’t paying 500 million to enter the league.
-
Don’t be mad. Yes it was a long post but I gave everyone great insight to this Vegas squad. I was a diehard fan of the Sabres since I was little. I grew up watching Dave Andreychuck, Tom Barrosso, Phil Housley, Mike Foligno, John Tucker. I’m still a Sabres fan but I left Buffalo in 89 and now that we have a team here in Vegas it’s hard not to support this team. Like most others that came from other places they usually root for their team when they visit Vegas but the rest of the season they are Knights Fans. If you lived here you would understand how the fans have taken a liking to this team. Plus the players are very likable. Alex Tuch and Pierre Edouard Bellemare are just great human beings. Alex Tuch has been to every outside event with the public. Bellemare is always signing autographs, taking pictures and usually gives his stick away every game. This team has been awesome for this city. I still like Buffalo but the mismanagement of players and the way this team is poorly run it just seems like they can’t fix this mess. Your spot on. Like I said I see it at practice and at T-Mobile Arena. This team works it’s tail off. I haven’t had this much fun watching hockey in a while. Believe me us Fans are Thanking Florida for that plus coach Gallant. I’m a big fan of his coaching style. You should run 4 lines out and get everyone involved. It makes for a better team plus players are fresh.
-
Great signing by the Knights. Watching him practice and play here in Vegas I just can’t believe Florida let a 30 goal guy go. He’s a great player. Those are the types of moves that get GM’s Fired.
-
Believe me Vegas is good. Think what you want they roll 4 lines and the second line might be better than their first. Their defense is young and fast and both their goaltenders are solid. They work hard and hustle and that can beat skill on any given night. I can thank Florida for giving us a coach and two excellent players in Smith and Marchessault. This is a true team. This is the most excited I’ve been watching hockey. This team is just damn exciting. I know because most of us transplants that live in Vegas now see firsthand how good this team is.

Lehner: Mediocre or the Goalie of the Future?
SabresBillsFan replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
Besides shootouts lehner isn’t the problem in Buffalo. -
Well as a season seat holder and someone that grew up in Buffalo I can tell you this much. This is a very well managed team. At the start of the season the talk was most of the unrestricted players were going to be moved for young prospects and picks. But now with them being as good as they are things have changed. Nobody really knows what McPhee has in mind but I’m hoping they resign most of these players. This team has great chemistry and it shows. At the start of the season the big question was where the goals are gonna come from. Well I have to say they are coming from all lines. All 4 lines are solid. Perron and Haula have been unreal on the first line, and no need to talk about Neal he just keeps doing what he does. The second line is just as good or better than the first line with Karlsson, Smith and Marchessault. I can’t believe how Florida could not protect either player. Both are really good players. Plus Karlsson watching him practice and play this guy can skate and he has been getting ice time and blossoming. Now onto the 3rd and fourth lines. Minnesota trading Alex Tuch to us for practically nothing is just goes to show you how many GM’s really have no clue to what they are doing. Since rookie development camp he has made an impact and has been getting better and better. All preseason he was making stuff happen almost every shift. He’s been very underrated as far as rookies go. Ain’t no one talking about him and he just keeps on being effective. Cody Eakin and Brendan Leipsic work hard and have had tons of chances to score. Now on to I think the best fourth line in hockey. Pierre-Édouard Bellemare is just a great great player. I say that because he takes a lot of the major defensive faceoffs, he is on the penalty killing squad, he is a shut down player and really good at it. I think he is the most underrated offensive defensive player in the league. He’s not gonna wow you with scoring because he more of a defensive player but he does have some skill offensively. Nosek, Carrier and Lindbergh have been great especially Carrier when healthy. Him and Nosek are a force on the forecheck and along the boards. Lindbergh has been on the third and fourth lines but has played well at times for this team. Now onto the defense. I think our defense 1-7 know their roles and all have been solid. Schmidt, McNabb, Thoedore, Miller, Sbisa, Engelland, Merrill and Hunt. Schmidt, Miller and Theodore have been playing unreal. Miller and Schmidt have cannons of shots especially Miller and both can really skate. Theodore started in the minors to start the season because of all the one way contracts but since his callup he had a rough first two weeks adjusting but the last two months he’s getting better and better each game. Now to the goaltenders. Everyone knows about Fluery but the unsung hero here is the goaltending coach. He’s been awesome and all 5 goalies used when we had those injury issues have said nothing but great things about him. Here was an interesting thing to start the season. Before the preseason Calvin Pickard had a mask contest designed by the fans. He played like during preseason and was let go for Subban in which a lot of the things we heard was he was no good but very athletic. Well I have to say he’s become a fan favorite and is a very good young goalie plus with Fleury being a mentor the sky’s the limit. I was like most of you before the season and said they would win 20-30 games but not be the worst team in the league. But watching practice and the games this team is for real they are playing with chips on their shoulders, they like playing here and all have meshed well together off the ice. This is just a fun team to watch, how far they will go no one knows. But they play a fast paced exciting brand of hockey and they work hard.

What Is Your Trade Prediction For Kane?
SabresBillsFan replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
I would say no but he’ll no to that. Pittsburgh would win that deal in a landslide I could see something like these deals but until this team gets some decent scouts then I don’t really want more picks. With as much money as Pegula has he should have solid scouting and scouts everywhere. More than any other team. I think Buffalo needs players that can skate and work hard. They seem slow compared to most teams. -
GDT Sabres at Islanders 12/27/17 7PM MSG, GR
SabresBillsFan replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
If these scouts can’t find anyone past the 1st round that can make an impact it will be the same year in and year out. They need better scouts that can find players that can be impact players. Right now it hasn’t happened. Even their 1st rounders are just so so. It’s an absolute joke what this team has become. I don’t blame Pegula he has spent the money but I think now he really has to hire a solid scouting staff. Sad thing about that is Girgensens hasn’t gotten worse. I thought he was playing his best when Nolan coached. Grigorenko and Zadorov were both rushed and were really never that great to begin with. I like Risto but he hasn’t looked good this year. Reinhart was the guy I wanted in his draft year but never really improved much after. He lacks speed. Nylander looks like he has a ton of skill but needs some time.
