  1. Emilia and these two . . . like having the top three picks in the draft.
  2. It is funny that you should use this phrase given the rumor from his first stint regarding Muckler's desk (if I recall correctly).
  3. I think there is some truth to this. There are those in Buffalo who will always have a soft spot in their hearts for TN. Those people also seem to ignore his history: TN's history with Muckler. Whatever happened to sour his relationship with Hasek. (Someone complained about an earlier poster repeating something that every Buffalo sports fan who has not lived in a cave has heard a million times). Whatever actually happened, it certainly did not sit well with Hasek. TN not returning DR's calls. TN quickly wearing out his welcome on the Island. GMTM gave him a multi year extension. To me that indicated thatTM had an open mind about TN. For whatever reason, their relationship was not as good as presumably both would have liked (given comments by both). When that happens (and in light of the above history), it is time to cut bait. This is especially so if the GM does not think that the HC is the guy to develop young players. Even those who love TN have to admit that TN is not what one would call a great strategist etc. His whole MO is "compete level." That is what we love about Ted Nolan. Yet, the question is whether that is enough in today's NHL or with this team. I suppose how you answer that question probably is predictive of how you feel about the events of today. P.S. As for the Bills hiring Rex, I love the hire (and I also am a long time out-of-town season ticket holder).
  4. Interesting that when Bucky's buddy PLF left, GMTM stayed. The fact that GMTM stayed (as well as PLF's short tenure on the Island) is further evidence that Bucky just has an axe to grind with the Pegulas. In fact, this is less about him being sexist and more about him being a first class ######.
  5. If I spent millions of dollars on a sports team (NHL, NFL etc.), I darn well would be involved. Why anyone would expect something different from an owner of a multimillion dollar business - whether it is Apple, the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills, or any other business - is beyond me. We are fortunate that the Pegulas decided to buy the Sabres and reportedly want to buy the Bills. They have done more for Buffalo than just about anyone I can think of. Bucky, Sully etc. should not be surprised that they have burned their bridges with both the Bills and Sabres given some of the BS they have written. I will take Terry and Kim Pegula any day of the week over Bucky, Sully, and Harrington. Just my two cents.
  6. That makes sense given that he clearly has taken sides with PLF. Bucky lost his one source. Poor Bucky.
  7. He was? I don't remember that. I am not saying you are wrong, I just don't recall him or the other guys at the News breaking many stories regarding the Sabres or Bills. The guys at the News seemed to have burned all of their bridges with both teams (except for maybe someone who has an ax to grind). Adam Schefter probably has more sources with the Sabres than these guys even though he does not even cover hockey.
  8. In reading this thread, I am very happy that the board sees through Bucky's ######. So many of you have commented exactly the way I would have so I will not repeat them Bucky (and so many of the other guys at the News) continue to embarrass themselves.
  9. RIP. He was is my first memory of professional hockey. For those of you who did not see him play, the guy was very talented and fun to watch. I was just a little kid when I saw him play.
  10. I have no idea about that, but bringing Green into the team was a good move. Landon did not do himself any favors by disappearing. I also suspect that he was the one who claimed (off the record to reporters) that there was dissension in the team several months ago.
  11. I love bringing Moulson back. He can score, but he also is a character guy. Another point most of you already know, he grew up not too far away from Buffalo and as a Bills fan. He is essentially a local guy like Gionta.
  12. My two cents: This is a bull ###### move that is presumably being pushed by someone behind the scenes. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago when this died and now it has reared its ugly head again. If you are going to change the rules, you do it for a few years down the road. Teams (including the Sabres) have made decisions based on the present system. Is it a coincidence that this is happening now in advance of the 2015 draft? Obviously not.
  13. Why are you depressing me like that? It is the old Buffalo luck. It would have been great if we controlled the number one pick and could have done something like what you suggest the Panthers may do. Time will tell whether they trade out of the first pick and we get screwed in the process. I am not as concerned this year (as I would be next year). Given that I probably would be happy with any of the top three guys (based on what I know now), having the second pick does not really hurt us, but having the first pick would have been useful to pick up more "assets" as hockey GMs like to say.
  14. I had high hopes for Leino (after seeing what he did with the Flyers - especially against us). His time in Buffalo is done though. He needs to move on for both the Sabres and his own career. The only way I can see him coming back is if they need to spend money on him to get up to the floor. Even with that consideration, I am sure that the Sabres would rather spend the money on someone else to come in and help mentor these young guys. I also see they trying to sign (and spending a lot of money on) Callahan.
  15. To re-phrase the question, if I were Garth Snow, I would use this year's pick and add what I could to make sure that next year's pick is not subject to the lottery. If I were the owner of the Islanders, right now, I would lean toward deferring if there was any chance of getting one of the top picks.
  16. TN has the right to hire whomever he wants as assistants. I do not necessarily agree with all the moves. Nevertheless, given TN's strengths and weaknesses, he is going to be highly dependent on good assistants. He may as well hire whom he wants.
  17. I agree. I like Lindy and was upset that he was fired. He is a better coach than TN in my humble opinion. I really hope TN succeeds. In part, that will depend on whom he will hire as assistants. Just my two cents. As a side note, Rolston never should have fired Patrick. I have a feeling Patrick made him feel insecure about his job. Patrick would have been a better coach than Rolston - but, of course, that is not saying much.
  18. I think that you will like them, but they are not "Buffalo style." They are great though. The pizza is great as well (thin crust).
  19. I got a Big Green Egg last Summer. I have been meaning to make chicken wings on it, but have not yet. So far, I love the BGE. I am still trying to perfect some things through trial and error. The versatility of the egg is amazing. From ribs, to rib eyes, to everything else. I have been hit or miss with the pizzas. For some reason, I have not been able to bake these consistently well and have had trouble at times with the dough. As for the wings, there is a place in South Florida (where I live) called Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza. They make great wings. I have been tempted to ask them how they do theirs. The other thing that I have wanted to try, but have not yet, is the spatchcock turkey and chicken. I hear that comes out well. If you have any other recipes or go to BGE recipe sites (other than the BGE site itself), please share.
  20. Your comment was my reaction as well. TN is getting the guys to play better than they did with Rolston (who had no business coaching in the NHL when he was hired). Nevertheless, let's stop pretending that Ted is Scotty Bowman. We could do worse and we can do better. If he signs an extension, I wish him all the best - yet, there should not be any guaranty in his contract that he remain as the head coach through the term of his contract. His history does not compel any such guaranty (in fact, the opposite). If he does not sign the extension, I am ok with that as well.
  21. I have not, but I have friends who have and said it was great. They also told me that, in addition to the talent on the pitch, there is a lot of "talent" in Barcelona in general. I am sure you are going to have a great time. FYI - One of my favorite players is Cesc Fabregas who used to play for my team (Arsenal), but left a couple of years back to play for his hometown team Barcelona.
  22. I share your hope re FFP. I also hope something comes out of the investigation re Real and Barcelona. On the other hand, I have no confidence in FIFA. Go Gunners!!! (Today is going to be tough).
