Round Three:2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs The Conference Finals
gilbert11 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
As a Sabres and Sharks fan, I watched the 7 games of SJ/Colorado series seeing Zadarov as a 2nd pair defenseman and JT Compher doing well. Now I ‘m watching O’Reilley and Kane. Kane has sure been quiet after scoring 30 regular season goals. -
Round Three:2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs The Conference Finals

After he hit the puck with his hand, he swung at it with his stick. It was close but the stick didn’t touch it. May have been tough for that ref to tell from that distance. -
Friedman Says Ralph Kruger has a Legit Shot at Sabres HC Position

Cousin of Freddie Krueger. -
As I recall, around that time, I was listening to a local radio sports talk show that was discussing the possibility of a MLB team (I believe there was a guest but don’t remember who). A caller asked that if Buffalo got a major league team, would the ticket prices be the same as for the Bisons. The host was discouraged by that question and commented that he didn’t think Buffalo could support an MLB team as they can’t expect to pay minor league prices. I think that may have been part of the financial picture.

Going way back in the time machine, Maynard G Krebs from Dobie Gillis, played by Bob Denver, more known for his role as Gilligan

My apologies. That’s what I get for looking at Wikipedia. I was just looking up McLellan’s record as a head coach and someone had just added that he signed with the Kings. I should’ve checked other sources before posting. I will give myself 10 lashes.

Updated Todd McLellan OUT of the Running Sabres HC Position

In that second photo he sure looks like Charles Bronson. Put a ‘stache on him and he’s a dead ringer. -
Never mind, signed with Kings.

Todd McLellan took an established Sharks team to the playoffs his 1st 6 seasons as their head coach, but was fired after they didn’t make it in the 7th season of 2014/15. However, If we knock Housley for not getting the Sabres to the playoffs with a star player in Eichel, do we then dock McLellan for only taking McDavid and the Oilers to the playoffs once in 4 seasons (actually fired after 20 games this season, his fourth)?

Amazing also that on March 16th (just about 3 weeks ago) Gatorman posted a screenshot of the standings which had the Sabres 8th worst.

During that November 10 game winning streak, 9 of the games were decided by a goal and 7 of those after regulation. Four games went to OT and 3 were win in a shootout. There wasn’t much margin for error. It looked like the team, though, had figured out how to win close games. As the season wore on, that not only balanced out but went in the opposite direction.

For me, O’Reilly’s end of season comments showed he needed to go. He was supposed to be a team leader and he admits that he wasn’t enjoying playing that season which affected his play? He should’ve been leading by example.

It was sad to see the seniors go out that way. I really enjoyed watching Massenburg, Perkins and Harris these past 2 seasons.

Made for a good DFS play. I started DeSmith in goal, Kessell and Guentzel. Should've played more Penguins.

At the trade deadline in the season of ‘Tank for McDavid or Eichel’ I thought it got ridiculous when Murray kept trading down on goalies. A goalie would play well for a couple games, like Halak, and he was then traded for a worse goalie. So, I didn’t like that part of it but liked the result of Eichel. This season is already in the tank so I would hate to see meaningless wins ruin chances at a better draft pick. Carter Hutton, I believe has shown he’s not good enough to be a starting goalie so I would play Ullmark as much as possible to further evaluate him as he hasn’t shown enough either.

How the Hell are the Bruins the 3rd best team in hockey right now??

Yes, the goaltending tandem of T.Rask and Halak have been great. They alternate starts and it’s worked out very well. -
GDT: Sabres @ Flyers 26 February 2018, 7PM on NBCS
gilbert11 replied to #freejame's topic in The Aud Club
That first goal was pathetic. Three Sabres in the area and nobody checks Lindblom as he just stuffs it in! -
They need to forget about the early 10 game winning streak and come to realize that not all the wheels are on the track.
-
At least the Sabres took the right Sam in the 2014 draft. Sam Bennett has been a bust.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. You’ll be better off.

Wait a minute. There was a fair amount of turnover to the roster from last year. By my count there are about 7 forwards, 3 defensemen and a goalie that weren't on the team last year. That's a big change. Perhaps one could say Botterill has acquired a bunch of guys that are dumb and lazy but Phil hasn't done much with them.

GDT: Winnipeg Jets @ Buffalo Sabres. 10 February 2019 @ 3:00 PM EST

They both have problems with wraparounds. Seems like there’s one every couple of games. -
When I can’t watch a Sabres game, I usually record NHL Network’s ‘On the Fly’ to watch the highlights. The other day they had a live look in on a Tampa power play. The Tampa players kept crowding towards the net as a group and were half way in from the blue line and scored. Watch a Sabres power play and they hang out on the perimeter passing back and forth causing me to yell at the screen to shoot the puck. When they do, it’s either blasted wide or blocked and seems to be easy to defend by the opponent. Individual plays by Jack either scoring or passing to Skinner seem to be all they can do.

I had a similar experience years ago. I worked in OP down the road from the stadium. I was driving down 219 in the morning and all I could see were the taillights of a semi in front of me. He put his blinker on to get off and I knew I wouldn’t be able to see anything so I followed him off. I was happy to find that it was my exit.

I just watched the Mogilny defection story on NHL Network. Very intriguing. Interesting that Luce and Meehan put themselves on the line for him. I was already on the West Coast when this happened so I don't recall hearing much about it, but it was 30 years ago. Then with things changing in Russia it was good he was able to go back and coach. It's unfortunate that I didn't get the chance to see him play much with the Sabres.
