  1. Thanks again all, we're looking good over here now. Til that guy finishes up, I'm trying a new one to me tonight. Left Hand Brewing's Polestar Pilsner. Went to VBM expecting to get a pale ale of some sort, but the a 'real' pilsner intrigued me. Its definetly better than your standard Blue's and whatnot, a little more spice and flavor, nice and crisp mouthfeel. I was a little worried my years of Red Dog and other such nonsense had ruined real lagers for me, because the first sniff made me flashback to cleaning up beer swill the morning after parties, but this guy is growing on me.
  2. I've got this weird inkling we're going to trade with the Islanders again.
  3. hmm, just threw it in. I didn't see anything about reconstituting it, is that normal?
  4. Shouldn't that be what we want anyways?
  5. Fights will end when someone dies from it on the ice, and not before. I give it another couple decades.
  6. Yeah, sorry, it was a Danstar Nottingham Ale yeast, and a dry one. So I opened her up and I don't see much going on. It smells like beer, but I see very little foam. Thats it (sorry about the picture from my flip phone/potato), but after I gave a good shake, there was less of that foam before that. I'm going to give it the weekend and try to get my hand on that spec grav tester, but if I don't see anything much going on I might have to get some more yeast to kickstart it. Thanks for all the help guys! WHEN I get this stuff done I owe you all one of them.
  7. maybe i have the wrong one, but it was a dry yeast. EDIT: I a word.
  8. No spray bottle, but starsan did come in the pack. When I move the stuff into the second bucket and have to make some more up I'll steal that idea though. As for the yeast, I think "Wyeast 1272 American Ale Yeast II" is what I have (found that on the website and it sounded familiar).
  9. Mine is an Irish Red Ale, which (if I don't screw it up) will be ready just in time for St. Patricks day. Oh god, yes, haha.
  10. You can get the 'Mr. Beer' guys which take up almost no room and are a decent starter. The quality I got from that was kinda crappy, but to be honest I didn't do a great job keeping up with it, and my storage left alot to be desired, so I don't have a great view on how good they are. The guy I have now is basically a 5-gallon bucket, which also doesn't take up much space. I got this kit for christmas: http://www.northernb...tarter-kit.html I get the feeling that this is one of those things where you just keep buying more stuff for it til it takes over the house, though, haha.
  11. Thanks guys. I'll open 'er up and take a look when I get home. I did the shake thing before I sealed it up, but I'll give that a shot, too. I don't have the specific gravity thing (my next purchase, methinks) but my father-in-law does. I'll borrow that, and a homebrew or two, from him, haha.
  12. Home brewers, a question: My brew, she's not a-bubblin'. The first few days after brew-day I had my 5-gallon pail in a heated room in the attic, but I was afraid that it was to cold, so I moved it into the guest room and i've been making sure the heat is fairly consistantly around 65-70 ( I have a little space heater in there for extra cold nights). Its been about a week and a half and I'm not getting any consistant bubbling and I'm worried. Should I open her up and check? I'm worried about contamination from opening it, but I'm also worried I'm just letting this beautiful beer go to waste, and I'm hoping its just a bad seal or something. Any thoughts?
  13. Got a start-up brewing kit for christmas from the wife; color me pumped. Should have about 5 gallons of Irish red just in time for St. Patty's Day.
  14. Yup, one more way to die, which is interesting to me.
  15. They've announced they're doing a spin off to the walking dead, but it will have none of the members from this show on it. I'd love it if it took place up north some where.
  16. Had an Ithaca Cold Front last night : http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/651/52334. IDK if it just hit the spot or what, but it was really good. Caramelly amber ale, little bit of spice but not over powering like alot of the winter ales tend to be. I'll be getting some more, for sure.
  17. Agreed. I like IPA's, especially for those reasons you listed. Its the beer equivalent of a hard drink, loud, strong, and ever so slightly painful, all while being clean and crisp and refreshing. Nothing better for me after a long day's work.. I'm not going to not drink them just because some idiots also drink them, haha. I just also won't judge people who don't care for them like said idiots do.
  18. Nothing wrong with not being a hop-head. I don't love them as much as I used to, and I don't like that a particuarly hoppy beer can kill my palate for the rest of the night/tasting/flight. If I'm going to come home and drink a beer after a long day, it'll probably be an IPA, but if I'm going to be having a lot of different types I tend to stay away from them. People liking IPA's kind of became this shibboleth type thing for beer lovers a couple years ago when the craft stuff was really starting to take off. Walk up to the bar and order a Hop Devil or a Cascazilla and other guys would kind of respect that you knew beer. Now the craft/micro brew stuff is so big it doesn't need to be like that anymore, there's a million different tastes for everyone, but some are stuck in their old (read: 5-10 years) ways.
  19. I loove IPA's, but they don't need to be the be-all-end-all of beers. The market has become flooded with them, and I'm hoping it corrects itself before they kind of jump the shark.
  20. Cask ale fest at Coles/Mr. Goodbar in Buffalo tonight/tomorrow for any interested. Not sure of the full list but I know Community Beer Works and Great Lakes will be there.
  21. I like it. I could also see Carol telling Tyreese that she killed them.
