  1. I'm pumped for the flogging molly/tragically hip reschedule next friday. Last friday was my first exposure to Gord in person and he was amazing. Also, Grace Potter did not dissapoint, she's still a rocker/hippie chick at heart. I might go see her at the Town Ballroom in September.
  2. yeah, all the medical campus stuff is still happening as far as I know. this was a separate project on the site of the old gates hospital, which moved into the corridor downtown.
  3. Yeah, I was sad to hear about the Gates project going down. A vet school/hospital would have been a cool addition, different from all the mixed use stuff everywhere. They're taking new proposals now, I hear.
  4. God I hope that happens, Canalside is the perfect location for it.
  5. Marriot is also going to run the old-donovan-building-turned-hotel in canalside, though that one will be a 'Courtyard by Marriot', which tends to be more business oriented. Its nice seeing some REAL hotels down there besides the Adams Mark, which is more overrated than anything in the city. I also have nothing against the boutique hotels (I did the Hotel Lafayette for my wedding and it was AWESOME) but bigtime investment by major corporations from outside the city looks really good on paper, and people go to names they know.
  6. My 20 y/o heart is screaming yes, but my 26 y/o head just isn't so sure. I think he'd be able to help out the younger scorers, but I don't want to pay alot, or keep him around for to long and impede them stepping in. I definitely don't want him if he is immediately given the C, I want that on a youngerish player, though this is less of a concern since Ruff isn't here anymore. 2 years, 3.5-4.5 mil per, and I'll be ok with it. And go to the first game just to chant his name.
  7. That site is SUPER helpful, but also filled with landmines if you haven't finished reading the books. It'd be nice if you could filter it to where you've read, or at least which book/seasons you've come into contact with. SPECIAL 6 MONTHS AFTER THE FACT EDIT: I can't spell, where, not wear.
  8. Yeah, but this is so heavily foreshadowed that you can REALLY call it spoilers.
  9. I'm also assuming they'll make two seasons out of books 4&5, possibly 3, but have them run contiguous.
  10. My wife recently has been reading the books. Rob was one of her favorite characters, and one night I knew, from what she told me, that she was going to be reading the red wedding. I sat on the couch half playing on my computer, half watching her out of the corner of my eye. She stopped to ask me something in the middle of the chapter, and I think I yelled "keep reading, dammit!" at her. She was not happy, haha. She said she had a feeling that Rob wasn't going to make it through the series but "I thought we had more time!" lol.
  11. I'm not sure, I bought my tickets pretty early. I wouldn't be surprised, but call the box office if it says its sold out online, whatever they use sucks, haha. And I kinda agree, I really only discovered her a couple years ago, and I love her as an organist/guitarist/bitching blues singer, but they've been heading a little too far into the pop stuff for me. However, I saw her last year at the Harbor and it was a really good show regardless. She's got pipes that just won't quit.
  12. The Hold Steady and Hollerado show to kick off thursdays is great. I'll probably be at every one unless I'm out of town. I like the free shows on the weekends now, too. Might go see The Wailers, even if it is sans Marley. Also going to Grace Potter/Tragically hip and Lowest of the Low/Flogging Molly out at the Outer Harbor.
  13. Ugh, I used to like this thread more than my other old Bills forum all together because I could avoid this mess. You find a guy. You pick that guy. You don't mess around and get cute, especially with QB's. 4 years from now if he's a success no one will give a crap if he was picked at 16 or 116. And if he sucks it matters even less. This isn't the NFL of 10 years ago, where if you picked a guy and were wrong, especially early and a QB, your franchise was set back a decade. Look at Carolina. They picked Clausen and Pike in the same draft, both guys who were supposed to be potential starters. What happened when they blew? They picked Cam Newton the next year.
  14. Alright, 2 days away, get your final picks in, who you got? I think it'll be Nassib. I know Joe B on GR keeps bringing up Barkely, but Nassib not only has the 'cuse thing going for him, he's also got the Jon Gruden Stamp Of Approval, which means everyone else in the media is rushing to say that Nassib is now the best QB, even thought before that it was 'obviously' Geno Smith. Also, if they draft a gaurd at 8 I think I'll vomit.
  15. I tried the Dogfishhead Hellhound last night. Really nice beer. Its an Imperial IPA, but its not overwhelmingly hoppy (which is what to many IPA's rely on), and has a great scent and aftertaste. Only would have been better if I had an Robert Johnson playing while I drank it. Next time.
  16. The only reason I'm upset they're splitting seasons and books is because I thought the show might push GRRM to write a little faster, haha.
  17. Just had that for the first time Friday night. I'd never had it before, but I had got it as my first beer on a whim, and then got about 3 more before I left. Delicious.
  18. If I thought they'd make they playoffs I'd vote that way, since I dont...
  19. That was probably 'Frank' right? I'd agree, that one doesn't do a lot for me.The brown ale they have, 'The Whale', is really good, though. They also had some nice small batch stuff last summer for the Elmwood Arts Festival that was tasty.
  20. Community Beer Works out of Buffalo recently came in second at NIPAC, which is apparently a national IPA competition thingy. They beat big guys like Bear Republic and Founders, too. Cool to see a local, and new, brewery do so well. Also, Flower Power is awesome, just had one on Tuesday for the first time in quite a while. Forgot how good it was.
  21. All thoughts go out to you and yours, man. When my dog goes I'm going to be a wreck.
  22. My proposal: No loser point. 2 points for regulation win. 1 point for OT/SO win.
  23. Trying to explain to my taxi driver from Kyrgyzstan this morning why we get hammered on St. Patricks day : difficult.
  24. yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I love Buffalo, but it'll never be a Chicago. I've wanted to check it out for a long time now.
