Players need to be 27 years old OR have seven seasons of NHL service to qualify for a NMC/NTC clause so Byram did not have one. A couple days ago, The Athletic did an article on the growing popularity of these clauses and reported that a quarter of the league’s players now have them. While far from a majority, and certainly no excuse for GMs for not improving their teams, it can certainly be a limiting factor for GMs looking to move or acquire certain players. I thought it was funny that the Sabres had the least amount of players with two. That’s either because we are such a young team and so few are eligible or players insist on not being tied to Buffalo. Perhaps our players want full escape clauses in their contracts instead. 😂

The only thing that screams “winning culture” is winning. In the meantime, there are several things that scream nice things about other aspects of an organization’s culture. Giving vets who have represented your organization with class while giving all they had on the ice a chance for a cup is one such thing.

Try to keep up with your own logic here. You knocked the trade because we traded for a player who suffered three concussions early in his career, the last being over two years ago. But then you say you would be fine with having a player who has suffered more of them. Ergo, your stated concern about concussions is bullcrap because it’s more about talent than concern for the player. But yeah, once you suffer an initial concussion the next one is exponentially easier to sustain and with even less force required to sustain it. That said the treatments and protocols have improved over the last several years as well so their effects can be better mitigated. As to whether he should keep playing if he sustains another one, that depends on several factors. I’ll just say that after Kyle Okposo went into a manic state, suffered from paranoia, delusions, and had to be hospitalized after a concussion, I was all for his retirement. But that was six years ago now.

And your “worry” about Byram’s concussion history is complete and utter bullcrap.

Maybe KA can swing a deal for Zegras just to piss em off.

Has nothing to do with the number of NHL games each has played in their first four seasons. Casey played in nine more to date and Byram will surpass that this season if he stays available. I’m not discounting availability here, but that’s a different argument for this particular discussion. The argument was made that while Byram was in the hospital, Mitts was actually playing in Rochester (never mind that Mitts already had 114 NHL games under his belt before being sent to Rochester) and I’m simply pointing out that Byram hasn’t actually played much less at the same point in their respective careers, regardless of games lost to injury or time spent in the minors.
