  1. My advice for anyone wishing to invade and take over America would be to come draped in a flag and humming the national anthem while carrying a bible. We'd never suspect a thing.
  2. Chan and the coaches coming out in a hurry-up, no-huddle with an empty backfield and five wide had far less to do with Fitz than it did with them throwing Glenn and Hairston to the wolves to see what they've got and, just as importantly, needing to evaluate what they have in all the receivers not named Stevie Johnson. GO BILLS!!!
  3. Or you guys could just go slumming and join us on TSW from time to time. Is there a reason so many folks on this board won't be caught dead over there? GO BILLS!!!
  4. chz may not have a penis, but she has balls. GO SABRES!!!
  5. Working the refs. As old as officiated sports. I like the attitude of the Canadian team's coach. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/olympics--abby-wambach-s-brains-proved-to-be-big-assist-to-u-s--women-s-soccer-s-comeback-against-canada.html GO SABRES!!!
  6. The Lucic incident was the seminal moment of the season. They were doing ok at 10-5 and it most definitely derailed them for a period of time afterward. I don't think it's what prevented them from making the playoffs, however. Any combination of four lost points during the course of the season prevented them from making the playoffs. You're right about the fans not dwelling on it if we had won the cup. I'm guessing that when a team wins a cup, it has a way of shifting the focus and we'd have a tendency to accentuate the positive. Hell, it might even force a smile or two out of TSC. GO SABRES!!!
  7. I think it holds a ton of value going forward in that it can NEVER be repeated. The Sabres had one chance to respond the right way and they didn't. And that had a huge negative effect on their collective psyche for a good while afterwards. I can't believe that if tested the same way that they wouldn't respond correctly given what happened in Boston. Hopefully it will never come to that. But I can certainly see a team or two testing our resolve in that department. GO SABRES!!!
  8. You have to get written consent to retransmit from the IOC, which holds the rights. I don't think NBC would have any problem just so long as the attribution was visible on the screen. It's common place nowadays, especially for over-air networks. GO SABRES!!!
  9. Who am I?! I put the bat'rooms in dis place! Dats who! Who am?! I sat two seats from Tony Bennett at the Sinatra concert. Who am I. I got your who am I right here. GO SABRES!!!

This is my favorite pic of the landing:
  11. Shameful affront to the hockey Gods. Simple as that. We had ONE chance to correctly respond and we blew it the moment all five Sabres didn't make a direct b-line for Lucic. One thing worse than little nads is no nads at all. Geldings, as Drane would put it. GO SABRES!!!
  12. Would people be ok if someone with long, unkempt hair, dressed in T-shirt, cut-offs, and sandals walked into a movie theater or any other crowded public venue with a legally acquired, licensed, and permitted Glock holstered to his right hip? Or how about a small group of friends strolling into the McDonald's wearing their sidearms?
  13. Is this just in swimming? Because Al Oerter won the discuss gold in 4 straight Olympics (1956, 60, 64, and 68). Greatest Olympic athlete ever? I just don't think that can be quantified. Phelps is undeniably the most decorated and that has to count for something. I'll have to give it some thought. I'm partial to decathletes simply because they compete in more disciplines and have to display more all-around athletic prowess. But damn, that's a hard question to answer.
  14. Earving "Magic" Johnson and Irvin Berlin say hello.
  15. Top of 1st round (Grigorenko) vs. middle of first round talent are two entirely different animals. I don't recall saying anyone thought Girgensons was a "top of the first round" talent. I simply don't buy that Girgensons wasn't on their radar when he was clearly projected to go before pick 20 in the first round. The lowest I saw him rated was the number 22 skater. The scouting reports I've seen mention his grit but they also say he can skate, shoot, and play different styles depending on what he's asked to do in any given system. I have no problem keeping him up if he proves to make the team. None at all. I also think your comparison to Kesler is apt. GO SABRES!!!
  16. This doesn't ring entirely true as Girgensons was rated by scouts to go in the upper half of the first round in pre-draft publications. Are you really suggesting that Devine and Regier were clueless of these scouting reports? That they really had little idea of who this player was when he was on everybody's radar? GO SABRES!!!
  17. Pretty sure you're referring to 'The Groove Tube' which had Chevy Chase and Richard Belzer in it as well.
  18. I thought you had that vibrational stagnation thing all worked out. GO SABRES!!!
  19. Whether they appreciate it or not, the Sabres have to do what they have to do to attract FAs in the absence of other attractions. Paying a premium is part of that equation. There's the open market and then there's the Sabres' market. GO SABRES!!!
  20. If TPegs and Co. think he's worht it, he's worth it. What's the mystery? But to those decrying the fact he's not gonna bring you twenty goals or whatever on the ice himself, his presence on the ice is gonna bring more goals for whomever his linemates are. Vanek on a line with Doan? I like it. That's in addition to the intangibles off the ice. You simply can't put a number on that value. Suffice to say, it's valueable. Especially to a team with few visible signs of the kind of leadership he brings. GO SABRES!!!
  21. The NCAA still DOES have the power to ban TV appearances but that has been frowned upon BECAUSE of those major broadcast deals between the major conferences and/or independent schools. The idea being that the TV ban unfairly punishes opposing teams of the one that was banned. In the PSU case, in addition to the bowl game banishment imposed by the NCAA, the Big 10 has already fined Penn State $13m, which will come out of their share of Big 10 broadcast revenues.
  22. Major rights fees paid to the Big 10, which the NCAA has no say in at all. The major networks aren't under any obligation TO televise Penn State, however. PSU does have it's own deal with local broadcasters in and around State College so they'll be on TV every weekend regardless. Not being able to go to a bowl, let alone a major bowl, is a significant hit, though. Even the least of the bowls will net several million dollars for the schools participating. I heard at least one of PSU's TV sponsors has already pulled their ads (State Farm or some other insurance company I think) so I look for that to have a ripple effect.
