  1. Final game of the California trip. The Sharks enter the todays game with 4-3-1 Record good enough for fourth place in division. They enter todays game with three consecutive losses, most recently to Columbus 5-4, a game which they had the early lead. Will the Sabres finally score a goal?
  2. In Detroit for the final game prior to the holiday break. It's a glimpse of the future as the injury depleted Sabres will be without Moulson, Myers, Gionta and Foligno tonight. Myers out week to week. Foligno possibly months. Kaleta flew to Detroit and should play tonight Armia gets the call up for his NHL Debut
  3. Florida comes in 3 Pts behind the Rags for the final WC spot. While the Sabres depleted lineup has gone 1-5-1 over the past seven. With most of his defensive corp out Enroth has cooled down lately and is 1-3-1 in his last five. His Save Percentage has dropped to .908 from .916. His GAA is up to 3.16. Risto should return to the lineup tonight and Myers is expected to rejoin the team on the upcoming road trip. Pysyk back to Rochester
  4. Buffalo has lost eight of its past nine games (1-6-2). The Sabres recalled forward Mikhail Grigorenko on Friday. He was minus-2 in 8:09 against New Jersey. "Right now, guys are vying for jobs, and (we're) seeing how they respond," coach Ted Nolan said. "You look at (Johan) Larsson, he's made a good name for himself and really taken advantage of it. (Philip) Varone's doing it. Grigorenko, his first game here [since March 6], he has to learn how do that also." Predators center Colin Wilson, who has 40 points (20 goals) in 68 games, is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Nashville recalled Viktor Arvidsson from Milwaukee of the AHL on an emergency basis. The Predators have not played since losing 3-2 in overtime to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, their ninth loss in 11 games (2-8-1). Despite its recent struggles, Nashville enters Saturday two points behind the St. Louis Blues for first place in the Central Division. Coach Peter Laviolette gave the Predators the day off Wednesday before holding full practice sessions on back-to-back days. "[We] look to take all of that and bring it to the game on Saturday." Who do you think wins the Battle of the Sabre Toothed Mascots?
  5. Bogo still out. Kaleta still out. The Sabres, last in the NHL with 47 points, will play three games in four days beginning Friday, and continuing against the Nashville Predators on Saturday and Dallas Stars on Monday. Ummm.... Go Sabres.
  6. So, the little round-robin tourney between Calgary, Detroit and Buffalo continues. Sunday, Calgary beat the Red Wings, pushing Detroit's current losing streak to 4. Monday, the Sabres defeated the Flames. So if we can beat the Flames, and the Flames can beat the Wings, it's only logical that we should beat the Wings. Let's hope logic holds and the Sabres can defeat the Red Wings, who are on the back end of their dynasty. The Buffalo lineup I'm showing is the same as Monday's. If ROR is ready to go, look for him to slot into Larsson's 1st line center spot and Larsson to drop down to the second or third line, making COR the odd man out. On the Detroy-it side, look for old friends Thomas Vanek (in just his second game back after missing 11 with a LBI) and Steve Ott. The Wings have been struggling mightily this year to fill the void left by Pavel Datsyuk's departure. The conveyor belt of Eurotrash has finally dried up and the Wings just aren't the team they used to be. Goalie-wise, the Wings have split the goaltending duties pretty evenly. Jimmy Howard with a miserly 1.85 GAA and a miserable 4-5 record played the last game, so maybe they'll play Petr Mrazek (3.16 GAA, .904 SV%) tonight. If that's the case, the key to the game looks like it will be shoot early and shoot often. Correction to Sabres lines (ROR is back!) Lehner: "YOU SHALL NOT PASS." GO SABRES.
  7. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. The Sabres took a step in the right direction Saturday, beating the Penguins in the SO. They need to continue in that direction tonight against the CalGARY Flames. The Sabres are in 8th place in their division, a condition the Flames aren't even capable of in their 7 team division. In spite of that, the Sabres are actually earning more standings points per game than the Flames. In short, they ain't no better than us; this is a very winnable game. Things that have to happen to win this game: 1. The Sabres need to score more than one goal in regulation. 2. Lehner has to be the goalie GMTM thinks he is. 3. I think all three are possible. On the Calgary side, the Flames have been splitting the goaltending duties and since The Big Johnson played in Calgary's 3-2 win over the Red Wings Sunday, chances are the Sabres will see Brian Elliott who is 3-8 with a 3.36 GAA and an .882 SV%. So tell me, Magic 8 Ball, will the Sabres win? Cool! Let's go Sabres!
  8. Before we get started, this: In case you missed it, our little boy is growing up. Ahem. So. Bahston. We talk about playing meaningful games in March and April. This is a meaningful game NOW. The Sabres are in a virtual tie with the Bruins: 11 games played, 12 points. As much as others want me to let go of the Toronto loss, had the Sabres won that game, they'd be ahead of the Laffs in a playoff position right now. Please Sabres, don't put me through that anguish again. Beat the team you play tonight, so that tomorrow you can say you're ahead of them. With a win, the Sabres will move past a whole bunch of other teams and actually BE in a playoff spot. The Boston Bruins, who missed the playoffs for a second straight year last season because of poor home play, are 1-3-0 on home ice to start the new season. The Sabres need to step on their necks and kick them while they're down. Figuratively, of course. (Well, maybe literally, too  ) The Sabres need to play the style that looked so great during their winning streak, taking away time and space from the Bruins, taking the crowd out of the game, and yes, wearing the ###### down. Tyler Ennis and Dmitry Kulikov both missed the Buffalo practice Sunday, but just to rest and are expected to play tonight. Dailyfaceoff lists the same roster and lines as Saturday, but we'll see if Disco Dan's line juggling yields new combinations tonight. Expect Lehner in goal; he very much wants to get on a roll. Looking for game pictures, Tyler Ennis seems to be the guy that pops up a lot against the Bruins; let's look for him to have a big game tonight. As always, GO SABRES!
  9. This ain't no party. This ain't no disco. This ain't no foolin' around. There was a bit of a circus attitude around the Toronto game. I mean, you can't get too hyped up because half the arena was going to be from Toronto. They're just weird, those games against the Leafs. Ottawa's a different story. There are blood lines that have been crossed. Our GM is from there, he's cherry picked some of the players out of their system. He drafted some of the players on their team. This is a case where familiarity breeds contempt. This isn't a fun exhibition in front of fans from both cities, this is a grudge match. There is no love lost between the Sabres and Sens. The Sabres seem to get up for the Sens. They take care of business. Let's hope the do exactly that tonight in Ottawa. The Sabres are a frustrated team, beating Toronto in all respects except the scoreboard. The only thing that will satisfy their lust is blood a win. I'm looking forward to a good game. A game were the Sabres get back to the things that made them successful in their 3-game winning streak. Look for a lot of energy, a lot of hounding, busy sticks and effective checks. Roster note: Justin Bailey was sent down to Rochester, and William Carrier was called up to replace him. Look for Nick Baptiste to slide over to the right wing while Carrier makes his NHL regular season debut. LET'S GO BUFFALO!
