Weber's role should be 7th defenseman who dresses occasionally but sees most of the games from the press box. We have enough toughness on the back end that we won't miss his on a game to game basis. I'm glad he's a tough guy and will play until he bleeds, but he's a liability on the ice more often than not, regardless of the amount of minutes he plays. GO SABRES!!!

That is squarely on the fans and the fans only. Perhaps the Sabres gambled on the loyalty and intelligence of their fan base to understand that rebuilding from scratch and securing top picks in consecutive drafts was a strategy they could get behind. Given the number of tickets sold, I'd say they were right. Given the number of renewals at increased ticket prices, I'd say that fan base has voted solidly in their favor. GO SABRES!!!

I think Oreo gets shipped off to Colorodo as part of a package for O'Reilly. GO SABRES!!!

^This! And unlike that old core, I get the feeling that Eichel and Reinhart, especially, won't be shy about accepting the mantel when it's their turn. Add Girgensens to the mix and we have a nice group of leaders on this team for a long time. Vanek and Co. collectively didn't possess the hockey character necessary to assume the reigns when Drury and Briere left. Not even close. GO SABRES!!!

I know the play you're referencing and it was a major-league play born out of hustle, speed, and hockey smarts. If I didn't know the kid was only 18, I wouldn't believe it if you told me. Where did he develop this kind of game? GO SABRES!!! Thanks for this.

Much appreciated gents. Can't make up my mind which play I like more. All I know is this kid has a great brick and mortar game as he does all the little things well and it's plain to see how his confidence has grown throughout the tourney. Whenever his line is on the ice, they tend to control the play. I have to believe this experience is gonna fill him with confidence heading into his first pro camp. GO SABRES!!!

Well that "baby" is gonna be the strongest forward on our team the minute he walks in the door and I'd bet he can give Bogo a run for his money in the weightroom, too. GO SABRES!!!

Andrew Peters just threw out Tampa Bay as a dark horse team if they don't make the finals. Hmm. GO SABRES!!!

I totally misunderstood the intention of this thread. I thought Ghost went to the Netherlands and came back with some, you know, "pointers." I just assumed the "Holland Tulip" was a European improvement on something out of the Kama Sutra.

I know you are being sarcastic to make a point and I appreciate that. But to the bold text, you make an important one. And that is, very simply, that there is a finite amount of dollars available and no matter how you slice it, too many are controlled by too few. That is not a populist, class warfare type of statement, either. It's simple math. I'd be willing to bet there have been other times in our history where this has been the case and that those times ended with dire economic consequences. It's just an unsustainable model. And wait until Asia has her labor movements like we did in the last century. Talk about unsustainable.

The SCOTUS disagrees. Not that they got it right and their perversion of the term "individual" notwithstanding, they are, nevertheless, comprised of citizens that lead them, work for them, and otherwise drive their businesses. The problem is, they are not beholding to anyone but their shareholders and Wall Street. There is no loyalty to America and her citizens and no amount of flag-waving commercials with Sam Elliott voice overs is gonna change that (it amazes me to what degree they get their jingoism on). Agree completely with your idea of how government should be. Corporate America has a big role in our society and always has, especially during war time.

McJesus needs some help and he ain't getting it at the moment. His team is down 0-2 to Oshawa and he has one assist and is a -4 in the two games. I think Strome is getting exposed a bit, too. He's not nearly the skater I would hope to see at this juncture. GO SABRES!!!

That was the distinct impression I got from pastajoe. How have profits kept up relative to that gap between Minimum Skilled and More Skilled jobs over the same time span? I have no problem with high profits at all, btw. Companies should make as much as the market will bear. But just as we as individuals have a responsibility to be good citizens, so does corporate America. Shipping jobs overseas and keeping wages stagnant in the face of record profits is the antithesis of good corporate citizenship. I think it's downright traitorous. Even more so given the level of welfare corporate America receives from its citizens. Given how feckless it is, I wonder why carry on the charade of a minimum wage at all.
-
Joseph Stiglitz was on Maher last week and he said that, when adjusted for inflation, there hasn't been a minimum wage increase in nearly 50 years. Another minimum wage stat I find interesting: if the standard for minimum wage had kept pace with overall income growth since 1968, it would be $21.16 per hour ( http://inequality.org/minimum-wage/ ) This isn't about lazy poor people looking for handouts (as I've seen some here imply), it's about hard working people working harder and harder for considerably less than they used to.

http://www.goodjobsfirst.org/sites/default/files/docs/pdf/subsidizingthecorporateonepercent.pdf I weep for corporate America.

Sounds like the good people of Alberta finally got tired of Houston control.

There is no greatest QB of all time. The best that can be said is that the great ones in history all have a seat at the table. And it's a round table. GO BILLS!!!

Same here. The game just doesn't look too big for him. I think he comes to camp with a certain degree of confidence after this experience. GO SABRES!!!

I am in favor of no scenario that entails having corporate shareholders and board members making decisions over parents, teachers, administrators, and others directly involved in the community. So, no. If Apple or Microsoft (which is very much involved in in efforts to privatize the public school system), wish to start their own schools, let them. I don't want one penny of my tax dollars going into their already overstuffed coffers. Is Apple still sitting on nearly $150 billion dollars in cash like they were a couple years ago? Let them have at it. It's a shame that you found John Oliver's peace childish. Because his point about Pearson and companies like it is spot on. The Pearson employees interviewed certainly weren't being childish. If your bias prevents you from hearing messages in the form of comedic satire, perhaps you can research other sources. I think Pearson's actions border on diabolical and EVERY parent whose child has the potential to take one of their tests should be made aware of their testing practices and policies.

I don't think we're using the term "private" in the same sense. When I say there is a movement towards privatization, I'm talking about corporate ownership of our public school system. It is one of the biggest money grabs in our history. It makes sense that parochial and other private schools would do better in the classroom, too. Their class sizes don't come close to those in public systems and parent involvement in the process, perhaps the single greatest factor, is much higher as well. Vouchers make sense on some levels and invite problems on others. I'm not sure anyone is saying that public schools are the pinnacle of education in the world today. But the public school system has been marginalized by private interests that don't put the the interests of the students first and have no interest in doing so.

Teachers, who are a big target, have been sounding this warning for years now. There is a HUGE push towards privatization in this country, led by companies like Pearson and others, and the first step in that process is to bust their union. Privatization is a canard as it won't save a penny in tax dollars, will pay teachers and other educators less (they are on the expense side of the ledger) and, most importantly, won't do a damned thing to improve "scores" for students. When teachers are forced to "teach to the test", the important elements of an education, especially for elementary grade students, is lost. And it can't be recovered.

I'm well aware of this. I was attempting to inject some levity into the discussion. Sorry if that offended. GO SABRES!!!

YoloInOhio posted this on Off The Wall over at TBD. Thought I'd share. Yes, Jeremy White is definitely biased, but so am I! Can't get enough of this stuff. Russia was a great test for the kid, especially. We are gonna love him here. http://www.wgr550.com/JW-Eichel-Watch/21470136 GO SABRES!!!
