The Boston Herald article linked above that cites the two Bruin scouts who said he could play "on an NHL 2nd line..." Sorry, but I thought Eichel was a 1st line center. So, that article and my outgrown sense of sarcasm informs my opinion that he is a bust waiting to happen. GO SABRES!!!

I didn't want to go there but, yeah, he's got bust written all over him. GO SABRES!!!

2nd liner? That's the best he can do? Looks like Eichel is overrated. GO SABRES!!!

Thanks for sharing this. I feel for Patty and the countless number of players that have paid and continue to pay such a price to play the game. Why am I not surprised to learn the Pegulas are salt of the earth types. I get the distinct impression their humble roots run deep. GO SABRES!!!

He would have collected more points with a broom. GO SABRES!!!

These two. Nothing in this thread moving forward can top these two. Outstanding, gentlemen! GO SABRES!!!

Soccer (Football) ~ Everything About The Beautiful Game
K-9 replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
They deserve it just for the forced neon motif on a USA team uniform. So I would have gone off on them, regardless. But Aud's post about reports of locker room strife, coaches not in a position to effect change, etc., makes me wonder if Wambach doesn't have a documentary film crew following her every move in this, her last World Cup. I could see where that could cause some issues. Especially because it's been obvious since game 1 that the strategy to run their offense off of long passes to Wambach hasn't been working and others on the team are playing better. Did I mention my dislike for the neon element in their uniforms? -

That's true. If Nike is in the process of manufacturing "The Abby Wambach Swansong of Victory", then it's on Wambach to inform her corporate bosses that she doesn't have the wheels anymore and it's not fair to the rest of the team. Yeah, I know that will never happen, but if Nike is really that involved, it's just not fair to the better players on the team to be made to put their place in history on the feet of an over the hill player. It's shameless, really. Phuck Nike and their phucking neon motifs. They won't be happy until EVERY team looks like the Oregon Ducks. -
After listening to Quinn's interview on WGR in April, I'm not worried about his comments in the ESPN article. I think he's playing devil's advocate, nothing more. He said Eichel is ready for the pros and would drive him to Buffalo himself if Eichel decides he wants to go. GO SABRES!!!

Soccer (Football) ~ Everything About The Beautiful Game

Well, if our coach doesn't have the balls to do what's right by the rest of the team, they deserve whatever they have coming to them against Germany or France (assuming they can get past China). I don't think the idea that Nike is exerting undue influence is farfetched, either. Given their ridiculous uniform design, it's obvious. -

Is the US coach just being intractable when it comes to Wambach? Why does she insist on making her the focal point of our attack? Time for Abby to sit and become a sub and let the better players come to the fore with their playmaking skills and ability to pressure a defense. Right now, the younger players look tentative and I think it's because our coach insists on stifling their games by making Wambach the starting point for our offense. I don't think it's fair to Abby, either. Can't expect her to do the things she can't do anymore. -
One: "Duh." GO SABRES!!!

This is irrefutable. Regier's trading prowess directly resulted in our President's Cup team. GO SABRES!!!

Yeah, comes across as a total arrogant douche in that interview. Seriously, he his mature beyond his years and he is gonna hit the ground running. Does anyone know if his right ear was surgically re-attached at some point? GO SABRES!!!

The word filter allows Injun Joe but not Jim. It must like Tom Sawyer more than Huck Finn.

I have no problem with the use of any word, regardless of context. Words are nothing to be afraid of, after all. Words, even bad, politically incorrect words offer clarity into the character of those using them. When great literary works like 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' are deliberately not taught because of the N word, something has gone too far. Something far worse than the use of the word itself in even the most hateful of contexts.

I've known many black southerners over the years who are extremely proud of their southern heritage as well. None of them would consider flying the stars and bars as an expression of that pride. I wonder why. Do white desecendents of confederate soldiers hold the patent on expressions of southern pride? With all due respect, saying the stars and bars is just a symbol of pride in one's heritage is a crock and always has been.

Tim Connolly got a PhD?

Not all NHL players have to be exceptional skaters...
K-9 replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Aud Club
Agreed. Guy LaFleur was the best I ever saw at simply starting/stopping/starting again on his skates. He was uncanny at that. That skill alone helped him to find open spaces before anyone could shut them. Kinda like moving without the ball in basketball. I'm not sure how much top end speed helps in the confined space of a hockey rink. GO SABRES!!! -
I understand the spirit of your post, Yuri. The traitorous acts of the south have been romanticized to a brilliant golden shine over the last 150 years. I don't know why people feel the need to honor traitors to the country, but such is the land we live. I find it odd, if not outright insulting, to have that flag flying next to ours at government buildings in the south. Never sat well with me. I suspect it may actually be a deep southern shame rather than a proud heritage but that is a discussion for another time. I would just point out that the Union flag has a lot of blood on it as well and there may be people out there that would do to it what you propose doing to the stars and bars. Since Betsy Ross sewed the first one, our flag flew in the name of government sanctioned slavery and the genocide of an entire race of people on this continent. I would fully support their right to denounce it, too. After all, the right to do just that is symbolized by the very flag they would see torn down. The irony of that has always been profound to me.

I call bullschit on these reports about Eichel being an ass. All told, going back to last September with the lead-up to the prospects game, all throughout his college season, into the IIHF world tourney, the combine and all the hoopla, I think I've either heard or read interviews with him no less than two dozen times (probably more). The kid is 24-0 (at least) in those interviews. Absolutely ZERO douche factor in any of them. If you've heard or read anything his parents have said, it's easy to see why. I refuse to believe that's all an act and he somehow showed his true character with a couple teams at the combine. If I had to guess, it was a couple Canadian teams who couldn't stand the temerity of a young American boy saying he expects to be a better player than the Canadian McJesus. He has a confidence that actually registers while McJesus is far more subdued. If they mistook that confidence for arrogance, I suspect that may be an indication of why those teams suck in the first place. Not an indication of sound player evaluation. GO SABRES!!!

He said he wanted to start a war. That is about as political as it gets.

Just heard Bylsma say that at the presser, too. GO SABRES!!!

I believe it was Kaleta. GO SABRES!!!

You are thinking of when Melissandre met up with Thoros of Myr after he resurrected Dondarian for the sixth time. That was when she also met Arya Stark and told her she saw her staring through blue eyes and green eyes and brown eyes or something like that and that they would meet again. It's also when Thoros gives her Gendry to take back to Stanis to have him sacrificed but Davos helped him escape. Was that season three?
