  1. But wait, he's a conservative educated at Harvard. How can that be? Why, I read right here in these very parts that Harvard and colleges all over the land do nothing but indoctrinate liberals and turn them loose on society in general and the media in particular.
  2. Opinions, no. Facts, yes. Then again, who needs research when we have Rush to tell us like it is.
  3. I'm sorry. I didn't realize your opinions on liberal indoctrination at colleges and liberal influence in the media really were based on years of research, data compilation, and analysis. EDIT: and I absolutely voted for Hillary Clinton, although I'm not sure my absentee ballot was counted yet. She was the best option for this country at the time. Also not sure what that has to do with anything regarding the discussion of liberal influence in colleges and the media. Oh, that was YOUR snark at work. Got it.
  4. I'm sure it was years of research, data compilation, and analysis.
  5. Thank God, ironically, for that.
  6. I get your point about winning in the big ones; it's a measuring stick, especially for QBs. But Romo is a far better QB than Fergy ever was. Sorry, eleven.
  7. If Samson keeps struggling at C, I might have to do a coke line.
  8. I'd like to believe that about the CRO line, but I think it will be more confirmation that Samson is not ready to be an NHL centerman.
  9. This is a gold mine of pertinent information. Thanks for linking this.
  10. I see what you did there. We're gonna get to watch three pretty good hockey teams this week.
  11. Well, that's the worry; nations not sticking together. Those democratic nations are undergoing shifts in their political leanings. And I wonder, REALLY wonder, if our current populations around the world REALLY appreciate the gravity of what happened in Europe back in the 1930s. The rise of fascism back then was the result of a strong shift to far right-wing ideology among other factors, like harsh economic conditions, etc. It's not just a coincidence. These people feel a fresh sense of empowerment. The incident involving the African-American veteran who had his meal taken away at Chilis is a disgusting example. At least Chilis fired the manager involved. They should bar the customer that ignited the whole thing as well. That's also the problem with ensuring that NATO remains intact. No single country has the authority to void the pact. The point is that alt right politicians in other NATO countries have voiced similar ideas about NATO as well. For anyone to say it could never happen is irresponsible at best. I know what Russia's leadership would like to see. What percentage of people, particularly the younger demographic, get their news from social media? What percentage of news on social media is false? What is the political ideology of those who post the higher percentage of false news? Hypothetical for you: How many attacks on member countries has the NATO alliance prevented? Pence is one heart beat away. How's that make you feel?
  12. What labels? Did Trump say those things during his campaign or not? Trump EARNED that criticism. Bannon EARNED that criticism. Words have consequences. What you have a need to call "labels" are DESCRIPTIVE given what Trump and Bannon offered up to be described. But as I said, it's a hard thing to accept psychologically so I'm not surprised by your level of rationalization. I think everyone is tired of labels. But please stop acting like you and other conservatives of your ilk don't engage in the same type of bullschit.
  13. I'm sure Putin is very happy as Russia has openly supported alt right political leaders in Europe as well as here. If these wingnuts take hold in big numbers, we can kiss NATO goodbye. And if we think the world is a dangerous place now, it will look like a church social if NATO dissolves.
  14. It's a psychological defense. It's hard for a non racist person to admit they voted for a racist who is staffing his office with other racists. I don't believe the vast, vast majority of those who voted for Trump are racists; especially in the rust belt whose people heard a populist message that resonated. There is no denying what Trump said and did throughout his campaign; the record it there. And it's difficult for people to reconcile that. People didn't place character at the top of their lists for traits wanted in a candidate. Simple as that.
  15. It could to the extent that anyone's belief system informs their actions.
  16. In Trump's case, probably not much, since Trump most likely shares the same value system. Trump needs his sycophants and the Bannon hire balances out Priebus in that regard.
  17. Congress won't allow tariffs. Not the 35% tariffs on American automobiles made abroad, as he stated to automakers in Detroit and certainly not on any imported goods from China. There are too many American companies in China making too much money on importing goods back here. Tariffs will never happen. Too bad too, because he sold that bill of goods to the rust belt democrats that voted for him for that reason.
  18. I won't prescribe anything. You've answered the question.
  19. Election laws, including the number of polls available, are controlled by state, county and/or other local legislatures.
  20. How opposed are you? Opposed enough to demand the GOP cease their efforts in that regard? Is there a sliding scale of outrage depending on the number closed? What about the question of there not being enough polls and voting machines in the first place? How is making it more difficult for people to vote squared with the ideal of "respectful inclusion for all?" I appeal to republicans like you because I believe you are a man of principle and that you cherish the important American ideal of the right to vote. I won't waste my time on the countless hypocrites who espouse these values but lack the character to stand up and speak out against these GOP practices. A quote from the linked article, one of many on the subject. https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/democracy/reports/2016/11/11/292322/voter-suppression-laws-cost-americans-their-voices-at-the-polls/
  21. I assume this is the sentiment in your professional community as well. I had a hunch that was the case. Appreciate your perspective. Thanks.
  22. It's too bad that GOP lawmakers around the country don't feel the same way. Is your stand on this principle important enough to demand that they re-open the hundreds of polls closed in attempts to discourage that "respectful inclusion of all"? Is the disrespect shown for that most basic and important of American rights and values enough to have you advocate to expand voting opportunities around the country vs. tacitly approving their blatant attempts to discourage it by not raising you voice in opposition? I get the sense you are a man of principle and I think you genuinely believe that all American citizens should be included in the process. But until we ALL demand change from those in power, it's all lip service. http://prospect.org/article/22-states-wave-new-voting-restrictions-threatens-shift-outcomes-tight-races Hey True, I've been meaning to ask you, as a political science expert, what do you think of Allan Lichtman? I remember reading about him a number of years ago and hadn't given him much thought since until his name popped up in a couple articles. Just interested in your take, given his disdain for polls, etc.
  23. Neither do I. His research is a valuable addition to the body of work and I appreciate that immensely. It's just not the panacea some think it is; it's just another piece to the myriad of reasons we behave the way we do. Morality simply does not inform every action we take.
  24. ...35% tariff on automobiles manufactured outside the US, not happening... return of steel mill and manufacturing jobs to the rust belt, not happening...
