  1. It's like McCarthyism never existed here. Imagine if enough like-minded individuals held seats of high power simultaneously back then. You fan enough flames of discord with the right people in power at the right time and it CAN happen. The idea that America has somehow evolved as a species and is above all that is ridiculous. And dangerous. The sheer amount of alt right propaganda and outright lies should wake people up to that fact. Sad thing is, a huge portion of the population is just content with hearing what they want to hear.
  2. It's the appeal to an anti-semitic demographic that's the issue, not necessarily Trump's antisemitism. Although his daughter converting had nothing to do with whether he's is or not. His own father was an anti semite. And his own WORDS suggest he is as well. Have you thought of organizing a nice "liberal media" book burning?
  3. Another thing Putin has in common with Nazis, whose oppression of homosexuals was as horrific as many of their other atrocities. And you are are right; NONE of this is normal. But with enough people in the right places of power, it won't matter and it will be sold as normal. And half this country doesn't give a flying phuck about the possible ramifications, either. Except those who will simply wait until there's really something to worry about. That's often called, "too late."
  4. Have Putin and Berlusconi scapegoated an entire ethnic group? Have they also blamed Jews for controlling the banks and the media? Because Trump has and that's right out of the fascist playbook.
  5. Was Tampa Bay missing three other top 6 wingers and 2 top four Dmen when they were without Stamkos? Sabres = Lightning is a false equivalency.
  6. I'm confused; is it brown shirts or brown people. I always get my browns mixed up.
  7. I spent 20 years in the industry, first with COMSAT and then with Orbital Sciences and the technology has advanced to the point where it's both feasible and not nearly as cost prohibitive. But the sheer amount of bureaucratic red tape and international cooperation required, both from the government and commercial sectors involved, make it a tall mountain to climb, if not impossible to overcome.
  8. I'm sure every day Italian and German citizens said the same thing when people raised the same kinds of concerns. The idea that it could never occur here is shortsighted. When conditions are ripe, it's quite possible. And the conditions have never been riper.
  9. Eleven was right: we are in 1930s Italy and moving towards Germany.
  10. This is where I'm confused. I was under the impression that non citizens are only guaranteed the right of due process. I'm not certain they hold all rights conferred by the Bill of Rights. I'll have to do some research.
  11. 14th Amendment? Makes sense and I agree. But that never stopped a bunch of bigoted xenophobes in positions of power, key positions, from rigging the game.
  12. My biggest worry is that, feeling the pressure of having an offense that is DOA, they will rush Eichel back and put pressure on him to produce immediately. It's gonna take him the better part of a month of playing before he gets his game back in form and that's assuming no setbacks with the high ankle sprain. We have to resist the temptation to rush him. Same with O'Reilly.
  13. Devil's advocate here, counselor: if it pertains to non-citizens not afforded constitutional protections, what's the legal argument against it?
  14. It's as un-American as it gets. But fear is a great way of controlling people as we've learned from history.
  15. Are you implying that pork barrel spending is more of a democratic party ideal? Because it isn't. If there is one thing that's ALWAYS been bipartisan, it's pork. Speaking of which: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/11/17/earmarks-are-good-earmarks-work-congress-should-bring-them-back/
  16. Obama isn't the cause of the protester's concerns. The onus is on Trump in this situation.
  17. KellyAnne Conway and others in Trump's circle would do better than criticize protesters exercising their rights by perhaps reaching out and making attempts at unifying a fractured country. But why do I get the impression they just don't give a schit?
  18. High level directors, yes. Not so much in the rank and file, which is where it was reported last week that more resignations would occur. I'm hoping it was just heated rhetoric at the time and that these experienced people stay on the job, but it was said that this level of consternation was rare.
  19. I thought it was pre-law. Then again, what's the difference?
  20. I don't think Trump made many friends in the intelligence community over the course of his campaign and especially when he started receiving actual briefings. There were reports last week that these resignations would be forthcoming and so there will probably be more to follow. Continuity in the intelligence community over the course of transitioning administrations is usually something taken at par. This is just not a healthy thing. And why was Trump insisting that his son in law be granted a top secret security clearance to sit in on security meetings? That is bizarre.
  21. I've never met your dad, but I already know I'd love to have a beer with him.
  22. Intercourse pretzels? That's what the Kama Sutra is for. Good post. The conservative heroes of my youth wouldn't recognize most of today's neo-conservatives as one of their own. Good point. Words in their political context evolve. There was a time when the democratic party was all about less government and the republican party was the left wing upstart challenging the status quo. We all should be more careful when throwing around phrases like "party of Lincoln" or holding up Dixiecrats as the model of the democratic party.
  23. I laughed my ass off ...until I cried. Oh, and Okposo on defense dramatically increases the chances that our D corp scores a goal. Or not.
  24. So, the remedy to an America that's too liberal for you, the tonic to cure that ill is: elect a bigoted, racist, misogynistic pu$$y grabber as president. Well done.
  25. I didn't need one article in the media to convince me of Trump's racism, bigotry, and misogyny; he did that all on his own with his own rhetoric. It's not like anyone in the media made him say and do any of those things. But because they report it they created it? Is that what you're implying? And I don't see how "liberalism", whatever that really is, is running rampant in a country that has rolled back key elements of the Voting Rights Act, given us the Citizens United decision and has slowly eroded our privacy with an ever expanding Patriot Act. But those are discussions for another time.
