I find the whole Gibson thing fascinating. When I first heard people talking about him refusing to waive his no trade clause, I thought they were talking about a couple years ago. The Sabres have loved him since his days with USA hockey. If rumors about him refusing to waive now are true, like I said in another post, that invalidates all the KA public speak about patience, changes the narrative that they don’t want to spend money, and, also, is possibly not dead. There might be ways to change his mind. He might just need a little coddling. A visit from Ryan Miller. Murray wasn’t coming here no matter what. Gibson, who knows. Like I said, just interesting.

Exactly. Everyone assumes that what motivates them motivates others. There are a multitude of reasons people take jobs. Some people want to be close to home, some want to be as far away as possible. Some want big cities, some want rural. Some people love coach X, some people hate coach X, and so on and so on.

You also have to be careful how much stock you put in to all the “insider” stuff. If it’s true they were working on a deal for Gibson, that runs counter to all the stop gap rumors.

It’s also not surprising that people in his position aren’t universally liked. Especially in hockey where there is still old school versus new school.

I’m tired of repeating myself. Here it is, one last time. 1) He helps the team now. Half this board is so sure that AHL playoff experience is this great elixir for our prospects but letting them play some meaningful games this year would apparently do them no good. 2) They would not be giving up anything that will help them in the next 3 years. 3) Obviously it’s only a thing because if he wasn’t from the area, HE wouldn’t be interested. I don’t want him on the team because he’s from here, I want him bacause he’s good and makes the team better without sacrificing anything that can help them immediately.

I would tend to agree with that, but it is what he said.

Again squared. We do not want him because he’s from the area. He wants us because he is. We want him because he’s still one of the best players in the NHL. Also, good teams do not save roster spots for prospects. They earn them. Besides, players rarely play 82 games anymore, there will be plenty of ice time. By the way, when do we stop holding spots? Should we save 3 for this year’s three number ones? In the end, you probably don’t have to worry. KA has fallen in love with the patient route.

It’s quite simple we want the over the bill guy who scored 90 points last year playing until the young guys are good enough to beat him out. We want a team that strives to be the best it can be.

I haven’t read the rest of the thread but in that video that LGRM posted, Forton said that they discussed picking the goalie with the 28th pick.

Kyle Davidson said that after the draft. Their public stance is they want Kane and Toews to be the veteran presence for the rebuild but you know that’s bs. There is a sense that Toews may retire. At either rate. Davidson said they would talk to both soon.

I would be shocked if John Gibson nixed a trade to Buffalo this year. I believe JBOT tried to acquire him years ago and maybe he nixed it then. However, if this was true, it certainly would eliminate half the posts going around regarding acquiring a goalie with no term or no big money. Gibson has something like 5 years at $6.4M left.

Accused of sexual assault? In a case that was definitively proven to be false? That’s held against him? I’ve never been a big fan of him or his father but I’m glad I’m not judged by things I did when I was in my 20’s or by things people said about me that were false in the hopes of collecting a settlement. As far as what happened with the Blackhawks, there is no doubt that that was an awful situation but if we punished every player that looked the other way or said nothing about disgusting stuff that went on in locker rooms, we’d have to ban 99% of athletes that played before 2010 at least.

Yzerman has been in Detroit one more year then KA has been here. Last year, they gave up 22 more goals and finished a point back of Buffalo.

Maybe, maybe not but I guess it’s easier to just think it’s just Buffalo.
