I'm curious, if you were going to sign one of the bought-out players, would you try to do it long term? Psychology aside, signing Gomez for 5 years @ $1M/yr would be a coup if he plays well. If he doesn't, you send him to the AHL and only $100k-ish counts against the cap. The big question is whether he'd sign it. $4M is a lot to walk away from, but if it doesn't work out this year he'll only see $1M total.

Agreed. There's really only two tracks this can go down: he was in on it to a significant level as a joke/publicity stunt/cry for help/gay cover. Or, and I can see this happening, he started to embelish. I can totally see getting duped into the online dating thing. When his buddies and him start talking about 'tail' and 'girlfriends' and whatnot, he doesn't want to be the dude that has never met his girlfriend or mashed at her naughty bits. So it starts there. Then, he has to keep telling the lie and it gets out of hand. Then his buddy who is running the account gets freaked out and kills the girl off. I'm not sure how to work the phone call aspect into it though, that's a tough one. Unless "on the phone" could mean texing to the kids these days?

I think the problem with Brennan is he needs to pass waivers if he is sent down. If Finley gets picked up by the Fisherman, I can't imagine Brennan sees Rochester. For that matter, I think the Sabres have 8-9 D that need to pass waivers, so they need to do *something* or risk losing someone.

I'm with you there. Last year, I went the GameCenter (via PS3 app), no cable, and used some of the money saved to buy drinks when I'm out at the bar watching the cable-only games. :) I've been tempted to install a Slingbox at my parents' house lately though.

If it were me, I'd start with (48/82) * 93 ( = 54) for the 'playoff point pace' line. That's the only one that's not relative to the other teams. Granted, for the short season it could be that more games go to OT because teams are working harder to come back.
