Awesome name for a law firm: Pond Lehocky http://www.pondlehocky.com/

I think we have to remember that very few people outside Buffalo care about the Latvian team. Zemgus is the only current NHL player on the team.

You know, I want to watch the Olympics. I really do. But every time I turn on NBC (broadcast), it's just their usual BS on. Access Hollywood? Bah. Even last weekend on Saturday afternoon I was planning on popping the TV on and watching world-class athletes, but all I saw was their usual Saturday crap.

Apparently people were "stranded" on I40 as early as 3PM today. Hope everyone is home safe.

So by that measure, Hasek was the, what, 8th best goalie in the league until 2002?
-
Huh, it didn't seem warm and squishy to me this morning.

I find this mind-boggling.

As a kid, did you never squeeze two people on a sled to go faster?

Luongo? Maybe DiPeitro too.

I'd say, it's easier to move someone from center to wing than the other way around. And, you can't bet that we'll be last next year. It's likely, but this team needs a #1 center badly (at the very least to share with Hodgson), so you take that now. Elite centers aren't that common, you can't pass on your chance. If we end up with a better center next year in the draft, move someone to wing or trade this year's center for a wing.

I'm guessing it's up to the discretion of the ref, and when it's two teams equally checking they let it slide. If it were USA just beating JPN down or something, you'd see more calls.

This is one of the really cool (no pun intended) things about riding a motorcycle (when it's a little warmer). You be riding along in the evening and you'll dip into a little valley and it'll get noticeably cooler, and when you come back out it warms back up. It doesn't even have to be a big valley, just a little dip in the road.

Power was out for me for only 36 hours last week from Wednesday to Thursday evening. Turns out what I though was a mostly decorative gas fireplace in my house managed to keep the house between 58 and 62 despite it being in the teens outside, score. I'm even more surprised that with the power out, the fireplace turned on with the switch; I'm guessing it has a little stored power in there or something. I didn't dare turn it off in case that was a one-time thing.

Good luck with the storm, I'm hoping I just get snow over here. Car read 8 this morning.

You know, there might even be laws about what tests an employer can ask an employee to undergo. Silly things like privacy and HIPAA regs. -
In Miller's case, no, because of his trade/contract status. But if it was another player I'd be OK with it. I suppose my answer might change if the Sabres were relevant this year, or in in hindsight the team was favored for the cup but spiralled due to the lost player.

Are you old enough to remember the Sabres/Caps Game 2 debacle?

I'll believe it when I see it, really. -
Hockey is a game, not a "sport" by my strict definition. Personally, I wouldn't have hockey, or any team games (as opposed to relay races or something similar), as Olympic sports since the outcome isn't determined by raw measurement. But that's just my preference; I will watch the Olympic hockey if I happen to see it on NBC (without cable, I have a pretty limited selection of stuff to watch and I don't think I'll bother with streaming)

I'd say Ehrhoff fits exactly into Darcy's vision of how to build a team. Slick, puck moving defense that would QB the powerplay. Leino seemed like he would fill in the hole at C, but that was a bust obviously. If he'd worked out, he'd also be a Darcy-type forward, not particularly physical but can skate with the puck. Maybe the method of getting those players was a bit different, but the players themselves fit the mold. -

Why not? You've been squeaking along with a certain amount of cash, and suddenly your ship comes in and you're flush. Wouldn't you? -
It wouldn't surprise me if the 10% drop from Buffalo to their new teams is in part due to the league changing from the free-wheeling post-lockout officiating to more like you see now. It'd be good to list games played, since if one was hurt for awhile it would affect raw points. But yeah, that doesn't look like a decline to me. EDIT: oh, and starting a new thread about Drury and Briere would probably be ill-advised. I *think* we've discussed the subject at some point. :) :)

This might be one of the most ridiculous threads I've seen.

He let himself be passed by Weber? :)

Snowboarding, at least the free-style stuff, is figure skating that guys can watch without being ashamed. :) Think about it: a person sails along, jumps and twists a bunch of times, and unless you're really into it, the jumps look mostly the same. Then they finish, and unless someone wipes out, some numbers pop up that can kinda be related to what you just watched. (and as a skier, I 100% understand how hard all the freestyle stuff is, I'm not belittling it at all, just that it's one of these subjective things that I can't really get excited about) I like these definitions: - Game/match: anything tracked by points or some other goal-based measurement system (curling, darts, hockey, etc.) - Contest: anything that's primarily subjective (free style skiing, figure skating, etc.) - Sports (I'd love a less-general term for this): activities that the winner is determined solely by time/distance/weight/speed (most of the skiing, speed skating, etc.) To me the "real deal" is on the last category, but I don't begrudge anyone wanting to watch the other stuff.
