  1. Pominville and Vanek were out there following the empty netter and Julien sent out Campbell and MacDermid. Ruff called the timeout to get Scott and Foligno on the ice. The NESN feed showed Pommers getting called back to the bench.
  2. Here's his fight card this year with Providence. Not too impressive. http://dropyourgloves.com/Fights/FightCard.aspx?Season=2013&League=3&Player=19526
  3. Paging Mr. Myers. Mr. Tyler Myers. I've been giving him a lot of slack and waiting for him to come around, but it's getting old. Tonight could be his chance to prove he's got some balls and some fire in his heart. I don't doubt that he tries hard or wants to be better, but there are little things, like stepping up, that can at least show you give a damn. He doesn't have to go toe-to-toe with Chara or challenge Lucic off the opening draw, but if the situation presents itself then take advantage of it. His play has sucked so far this year. If he stepped up and took on a Bruin lots of people would forget how awful he's been. Look at old Sabres clips from the 80's vs. Boston. Ruff got the crap beat out of him by Cam Neely. But he showed up. Neely was a beast and Ruff was a marginal player at best. But he did something. That's a hell of a lot more than most of the current Sabres can say.
  4. Don't get me wrong, I love Ott. I always have and have been hoping the Sabres could get him for years now, but he's a lousy fighter. He'll take the body every shift and stir the pot, but when it comes to dropping the gloves he's lucky if he can hold his own. Kaleta got the better of him a few years ago, and is a superior fighter IMO. Ott can take care of Campbell, but so could Weber or Stafford. Scott neutralizes Thornton, not Lucic. Are the Sabres a "tougher team" than a year ago? Sure, because they added Scott and Ott. But subtract Kaleta and Regher (who's almost useless anyway) for tonight and they're back at square one. What you hope is that having someone like Scott on the bench "rubs off" on the marginal guys to play out of character (Stafford vs. Hartnell) and not be intimidated by Boston. Will it work? Who knows. I'd love to see them come together as a team and even if everyone got their ass beat, but at least show up for the dance, but I think that's a long shot at this stage.
  5. Kind of like Dan Ellis did the other night? IIRC the Sabres have had trouble the past few years beating backups. I don't hold out much hope for this one regardless of who's between the pipes for Boston.
  6. I don't think Boston is intimidated at all by Buffalo. I bet Scott has a go with Thornton, and maybe Ott and Campbell have a rematch. They have a bit of a history. Beyond that, I wouldn't expect much unless Weber and Foligno decide to get involved, and that'd be a reach.
  7. What I've noticed the past few games is a lack of confidence with the puck. He's had opportunities to shoot, and has passed them up to try and make a pass only to give it away. I really haven't been impressed at all. I don't blame this on Lindy's system or anything like that. He'd have to adjust to a system regardless of who was coaching. He's transitioning from a first line, big minutes player, to 3rd line duty. I think it's mostly a confidence thing, and once he gets his first goal will get on track. The only problem is he's already played 3 of the 5 games. Potential aside and based purely on what we've seen through three games, would Luke Adam be any worse than what we've seen from Grigo? If not, then the decision is easy - send him back to juniors, save a year of his contract, and let Adam make his own bed.
  8. I've watched all of the Canes games so far this year, and that was a totally different team that showed up last night, more like the one I was expecting when the season started. The only way the Sabres win tonight is if Miller is on his game, and someone other than Vanek/Hodgson/Pominville actually scores.
  9. Agreed. Won't come cheap, but definitely worth a look.
  10. On WGR this morning, Lindy confirmed they will split the two games, but didn't say who will start which game.
  11. Sabres finish 2nd in division, 3 points behind Boston, and take the #5 seed. Beat the Pens in the 1st round in 6, lose in the 2nd round to Boston in 7. Miller comes in third for the Vezina. Grigorenko comes in second for the Calder. Scott finishes with only 3 fighting majors. Pominville leads in points, Vanek in goals.
  12. Is she a hair dresser for drag queens?
  13. Dang... way to go, Blackhawks. http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=85880
  14. Reminiscent of when they had Kotalik in camp. They kept saying he had every shot to make the team, blah, blah, blah, but everyone knew he was going to get waived. Same goes for Pardy. No shock there. That said, if he isn't claimed (and I'd be surprised if he is), he'll be a nice addition for Rochester.
  15. Good move. As long as Hecht is allowed to be the 3rd line center/PK guy he is, and no one has 2nd line C expectations for him, I think it's a solid move. I'd take Hecht over Adam or Porter at this stage of the game, and if it doesn't work, and one of those two prove they belong, then even better.
  16. If Rochester needs veteran, scoring depth, they'll go out and sign someone like Whitmore, who's currently over in Europe. The veteran D man they need is already in Buffalo - Pardy.
  17. At hockey last night, the puck was up against the boards directly between the penalty boxes. I stepped up from D and just barely got to the puck before the on coming winger. We collided, I got spun around and in the act of falling, smacked the back of my head on the ledge where the glass meets the boards. I blacked out for a split second and eventually got up, vision still blurry. The ref proceeds to give me two minutes for boarding. The contact was incidental, and I definitely took the worst of it, yet I got to spend two minutes in box. No one could figure that one out, not even the guy I collided with. He thought he was getting the penalty.
  18. There's obviously a fear with NHL GMs regarding drafting Russian prospects, and having them stay in Russia to play in the KHL. I don't see a problem with it as long they've played juniors in N.America. If there's a quality Russian sniper on the board who's playing in the Q, O, or W, then go for it, but only because he's the best available player, not for the sake of having a Russian buddy for Grigorenko.
  19. Yes and no. I don't see them too often, at least not as much as I did in Greensboro while I was in college. Those things are bad news.
