I fear JohnC is right, is that is what it will take internally, but I am with you, I just dont believe that will happen... the league took over once... I will be interested if we again flounder to another playoffless season... what will the attendance be like will it look like NBA arenas pre Bird and Magic... or like the Altanta Thrashers or Cleveland Barrons... will it be acrimonious, home team getting booed every night... The Sabres acquired him in a deal for Dylan Cozens at least year’s deadline which was not especially well-received. The case that it’s a bad contract: Norris carries the highest cap hit of any Sabres forward, but is coming off consecutive seasons that saw his point total stuck in the 30s while his games played was in the 50s. Injuries have been a big part of his story, including missing all but eight games in 2022-23. He’s basically had one decent season in the NHL (a 35-goal, 55-point sophomore campaign in 2021-22) and has been both paid and hyped based on that single year. But three seasons and one team later, that year feels like an outlier for a disappointing player. The case that it might be OK: Injuries are a two-way sword with this sort of debate. Yes, he has to stay healthy to earn his cap hit, and he hasn’t been able to. But that’s also why his numbers have been lackluster, and if he can get back to full health another 30-goal season seems realistic. He’s not a play-driver, but with a career shooting percentage of 18.1 (including two seasons north of 20), we can at least say that he has the potential to be an elite finisher, which is a hard skill to find in a center. And his teammates in Ottawa loved him. It’s also worth noting Norris does not have any trade protection until next summer, and only a 10-team no-trade list after that, which gives the Sabres some flexibility if they need to reconsider the commitment. And he’ll be 31 when this deal expires, so unlike almost everyone else who shows up in Cap Court, the team isn’t on the hook for a bunch of write-off years at the end. Key comparables: Norris slots in with similarly aged centers like Jack Hughes ($8 million) and Nick Suzuki ($7.85 million); that’s not exactly flattering, but those are also two contracts that are often viewed as solid bargains for their respective teams. Other comparisons would include the Blues duo of Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, both at $8.125 million. And of course, Norris will be forever linked with Dylan Cozens, whose deal has the same number of years left but carries a cheaper $7.1 million hit. The ruling: Putting aside who won or lost the trade, this contract feels like a risky bet for the Sabres, even as you can understand why they may have felt like they needed to make it. For now I’m ruling it a bad contract, but Norris will have a fast track to an appeal hearing if he can stay healthy enough to produce a big goal-scoring year.

My entire post reads... "I'll say this, if they deploy him on the first line and gets regular PP minutes, he could get close to 60pts." I never said he could approach 60pts on the second line.... in fact, I don't believe he'd get anywhere near 60pts on the second line, 40-45 maybe? Is that up to par with a 2nd line winger on a playoff team? But I understand your argument... you believe he's capable of filling the role of second line wing on a playoff team, putting up 50-55pts, that is... if his linemates aren't low IQ players like Cozens. In my opinion I don't believe he's capable of producing enough offense to fill that role and is better suited as a 3rd line winger with the majority of his minutes targeted on shutting down other teams top lines, PK, situational hockey (end of period/game, etc). It's OK to disagree on his potential as a player, as a fan I hope you're right and he proves me wrong.

Funny to see what happens when your president messes everything up only to "TACO" and now everything has finally gotten back to pre-Trump levels. We are in hockey doldrums. The big off season moves are over and most fans are skeptical on Adams and Ruff The Bills have all the buzz in town, as usual. New season, Josh Allen, Hard Knocks, etc. Tre White is back but the goalie camp remains closed. The Sabres season tickets are down to 9,000 and Canadians are not coming over nearly as much. Terry Pegula is basking in Bills fever and he made a somewhat telling comment last week.. His comment on the Bills was “ you don’t have to micro-manage when you have competent people running things”.

Said and I will quote " best case Benson could approach 60pts.... that said, he still wouldn't crack the top 6 on an established playoff team." You set the threshold at 60pts on multiple posts. You then said that isn't a top 6 winger. Either you are not writing what you mean, or you believe that if Zach Benson scored 60pts, he still wouldn't be a top 6 player. Which is it? If you are arguing that Benson is not a top 6 right now, sure by points he might not be. I guess we shall find out this season.

Only way i see him approaching that 30 goal season is on a PP where they just shoot pucks at him and he gets better at deflections. So in that regard, maybe putting on some functional strength would do him well. When he was in the middle of our power play i feel like he didn't do that and just shot weak shots from the high slot in a panic.

I admit that I didn’t watch a ton of Kraken hockey, but his fancy stats look good and he brings a handedness & mean streak that we haven’t seen out of a top four D. It’s why I listed him in my top three. We need that guy to be money.

Sure you can red x it and put your meme up but you have no argument. I'm no big Casey fan but he was our leading scorer before he left and he's a 50 pt. a year guy. You want Roslovic by all means sure, but there is a hole to be filled. Just hoping for what was here to be better is dumb.

I certainly think he'd be better on the wing. Just focus on one side of the ice and keep it north-south and up the wall. Keep it simple.

The players that players that could get the sabres back to the playoffs are players that are high variance types. The type that you honestly dont know what you're going to get season to season. To me, the three that could massively out perform expectations are quinn, upl, and norris (for injury reason). You get a good to great season from any or all of these guys... we should be talking about playoffs. Honorable mention to doan and levi
