Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor

Probably because TSN can get Marty for part time money. Why pay more? Doesn't he also do work for French language RDS? -
I don't recall fans despising Appert. Especially since he got the Amerks to the Final Four in 2023. They lost to eventual cup winner Hershey 4-2.
-
Nothing against Lindy but what's the point of retaining him as an "advisor" when you didn't even let him hire his own assistants? Just cause he was a Sabre before? It would be pointless.
-
I see nothing in Sabres style of play or character that would indicate playoff success if they got there. What is it you are seeing?

I’m constantly amazed Biron hasn’t signed a full-time gig with TSN or gotten snapped up by a larger market. He’s a good analyst. Sharp and light-hearted. He’s too good for this franchise (at the moment). I’m glad he’s they have him, but he can do better and make more money. - Today

That was definitely a part of it There were also disagreements on how much ownership had access to the players. A specific example was from a Sabres team visit to the Pegula music label venue in Nashville the night prior to an 8pm game. Kim pulled the wife of owner card on Lafontaine who refused to let the players go. (Quite honestly from what I know of this story, the Pegulas weren’t in the wrong in this instance; however it may have soured them on Presidents of Hockey Ops) Apparently LaFontaine did have some, likely CTE caused, issues which caused further friction with Kim Pegula. Particularly in terms of interpersonal interactions between the two in regards to non-direct hockey related matters. Tim Murray would later sink his own ship in part thanks to his own personal interactions with Kim. She was seen as a Black Widow to some but was respected by others. Terry has looked at the Sabres franchise as a privileged fan. He hired Lafontaine based on a dinner with one of his favorite players. Like us, he wants the whole behind the scenes experience and all but demands it outright. How many here, given the option, wouldn’t want to be in on all the going’s and comings of the team while also not having any particular job responsibilities? Like many fans however he’s lost some interest in the Sabres “toy” and doesn’t quite grasp how he is part of the problem with the team. -
We agree on that for sure.
-
That’s what I’m shooting for. I’m not looking for miracles. I’m trying to get the biggest bang for the buck. What the Pittsburg Pirates are to baseball the Sabres are to hockey. So my expectations are not too high.
-
Don’t make perfect the enemy of better though.

I was easily Jack Quinn’s biggest fan that isn’t a direct relative. Then he became an NHL player. He has shown glimpses. Unfortunately, this team absolutely cannot roll the dice and assume he’s going to be a 30 goal 60 point winger. If he fails to meet those fairly lofty goals, it will tank the season. Relying on him for anything at this point, when he’s been completely unreliable would be a massive error in judgment. Don’t worry, Jacky boy will be on the roster come September. No way this feckless org does anything real to fix this roster. They are running it back. I’m sure it’ll be fine.

You are correct that the goalie and D issues are my priorities. In my view, unless the goalie position is elevated to a respectable level, everything else done will be wasted.
-
Also this person isn't some awesome insider. Their work brings them into contact with the Sabres from time to time.
-
You are stuck on goalie/ D vs forward as an either or. Its not. It has to be all of them if playoffs is a serious goal.
-
If you want a playoff making decision acquire a legitimate #1 goalie. That would be the most impactful decision for this flailing team.
-
No, it's not him.

Ok Mrs. Adams, put the wine bottle down. -
You are assuming I don’t see him as a 30 goal winger. I don’t care. This team needs a different mix at forward, and needs to get older. Running back Quinn and the rest of the forward group is not a playoff making decision.

If @Brawndo is your source, the information is credible. He’s our inside mole. He is sly and sneaky. His favorite word is “surreptitious”.

Leave this congenial fellow alone. He’s under a lot of stress. He knows the Sabrespace combatants are in hot pursuit and want to string him up. 🙂 -

I'd'ave a Zima. -
The basis of my disagreement with the trade Quinn advocates is that I have a higher evaluation of him than this faction has. I believe that he will be a 30+ scorer. Quinn is not a rookie. He’s had a few rough and injury plagued years with the big club that has prepared him to make a qualitative leap. Clearly, a lot of people have a different assessment of him based on his past performances. I’m viewing this issue looking forward while others are looking back to make a judgment. Difference of perspectives leading to differences in opinion. That’s okay.
