  1. Past hour
  2. What stuck out to me is the “building block” along with Dahlin. Probably nothing but only one current player named?
  3. Glad to see. Makes me think JJP and Quinn will be shipped out. On a cautionary note, wasn't Samson shipped out as a culture change move?
  4. Vegas had a great start thanks to the great work of there management team. Vegas is a favored destination for players and is not a good comparison for Buffalo. My point is we had many excellent draft picks, but look at the results. You have to do more than draft a bunch of top ten players.
  5. I know your company and industry as you and I have talked on PMs. As far as his resume, the hiring manager usually gets that from the job posting portal. I have seen this situation a lot and have hired sons/daughters of several employees myself. It can and does work in a very big company with no problems. Since you are in physically close proximity, it is more up to you not getting involved in his workday than anything else. If he gets hired chances are he moves to a new project in the first few years and you never see him at work.
  6. Krieder has agreed to waive his no move and is being traded to Anaheim, hopefully this will start a cascade of moves
  7. After watching several of these, I'm always struck with the fact you never hear Sam Ventura's voice. It has to be a deliberate editing choice, likely to due to proprietary information. It leaves the impact of analytics on the Sabres choices an open question and a big hole in their process.
  8. Maybe this is the way. Maybe Vegas and other teams who continue to trade for the correct players is the right way to go. They seem to find a way to let the bottom teams grow their draft picks and then trade for them at the right time. I honestly wish we could do that. But we have Kevyn Adams as GM and he is incapable of doing that. So I have to hope at some point these young kids finally put it together and we become a power house for many years to come because of the way we built this team
  9. Marketing fluff but what I see: Adams does lots of catering to Terry. Ok, he is involved and he is the owner. Adams is a consensus builder, but how do they handle objecting opinions we don't see that here. Ruff wants players that change the culture. Appert likes Norris. Lindy comfortable that he is a 1C/2C. The rest if the guys playing with laptops, pretending they get a vote. Terry was 100% comfortable, that is so nice. Adams congratulates himself for making "nearly impossible" hockey trades.
  10. OK then. I’m guessing the average age of the people that have commented recently about trading our future to win now are a bit older. The ones of you where it comes across that you don’t seem to care about this team in 5 years. I’m 45. So I’ve been through the drought and I know what it’s been like. And I’m not saying don’t trade any of our prospects by the way. It’s just coming off by some of you that the future doesn’t matter to you at all and all you care about is winning now. And I don’t understand that.
  11. So my son recently completed a masters degree in a field that the company I work for employs. I work for a Very Big Corporation. In his job hunt he came across an opening at my company and asked me about it. It turns out it's in my department. I purposely didn't want to steer him toward my company; if he got here I wanted it to be his decision. But now that he's interested I'll do what I can to get him in. I'm acquainted with the hiring manager so I forwarded his resume to her. So many applications come in and so many get screened out that it helps to focus the recruiter/hiring manager on a particular candidate. I don't know if they'll pick him or not, but if they do hire him he'll be sitting about a 30 second walk from my desk. Seems weird.
  12. Yuuuuup. It was bad enough they aborted Regier's plan before it was really even out of the gate. But the constant changing of courses afterwards just made things even worse. GMTM's whole thing probably works if Lehner wasn't constantly hurt and/or on drugs. He also probably could have used someone to act as a buffer between himself and the Pegulas, since he very clearly thought they were annoying morons. The fact that he hasn't returned to hockey management in any capacity means whatever he did, he couldn't come back from it. But I don't know if he was wrong...
  13. It hasn't got us much, has it? The 8 teams that made it to the final 8 this year, have a combined 13 picks in the 1st round in the next 3 drafts. The 8 teams that finished in the bottom 8, have a combined 37 picks in the 1st rd in the next 3 drafts. None of the top 8 are planning to drop out of their positions in the next 3 years. None of the bottom 8 are likely to get into the top 8 anytime soon. What is perhaps interesting, is that the 6 teams that finished below us in the standings all have 5-6 picks in the 1st rd in the next 3 years. The Sabres have no extra 1st rd picks. I'm not saying we should add any 1st rd picks, but it speaks to Adams's level of incompetence that we have clearly passed the stage of acquiring young assets, yet we are still at the bottom of the standings. The teams below us are in rebuild mode; they aren't trying to win. Adams is trying to win, but doesn't know how.
  14. I agree here, I believe this year, this summer is critical... if you dont make the playoffs this year... (and we must remember that the people we are in the cellar with are lapping us with improvement) then I cannot see Dahlin and Thompson standing for going into year 9 or 10 of no playoffs... and even if Tuch signs... when will he want to have a functional career with a functional franchise... and quite honestly with the lack of change at the helm and committment to transforming the FO, the difficulty of luring free agents with the win or die attitude to help improve the team, the battle we have with no trade clauses in player for player trades making it almost impossible to get the best player in the trade... or one who will help up transform the team. I think we are closer to a rebuild then we are the playoffs at this point. This summer and our performance next year will ultimately tell the tale... but I fear we are ultimately looking at a massive overhaul in the FO with a potential tear down or at least a major re tool involving current core players that are late 20s and up
  15. Old does not mean impatient. In the case of the Sabres, old fans equate to resilient and steadfast. Since the Tank we have drafted these players in the "top 10 overall": Reinhart (2), Eichel (2), Nylander (8), Mitts (8), Dahlin (1), Cozens (7), Quinn (8), Power (1), Savioe (9). How is the "draft in the top ten" strategy working and when is the "help us win right now" part ever going to happen?
  16. I agree with this, but I think this is true alongside the trade for Byram also being a win.
  17. If you have a GM with a half decade long track record of being a total ***** up then him making a move that defies all logic is likely the way to bet.
  18. Today
  19. That is exactly what I believe will happen, this model is a flawed failure it has been repeated over an over.... I do not see it changing... it seems that it may have been a proper strategy once upon a time... in the beginning of the rebuilding 10 years ago... unfortunately it has been our mantra and now it may be the only choice left as players dont want to come here, rumblings of desire to leave and or are reticent to stay behind closed doors... it is further compounded by the fact they have eradicated the brand so viciously that they are a running joke and attracting solid talent with the win or die trying attitude is about impossible... and if you do a player for player swap you are all but limited to players with no trade clauses... and you have to typically over pay in that space... or rarely get the best player... Until the over all lay of the land changes here and the team is immersed in credibility and competence this is likely the way its going to continue to be... you are probably going to get your best on paper value out of prospects and picks... you are likely not getting the best player i the trade... so you trade for picks and prospects with upside or you over pay. and the last dirty secret as I see it... as I am watching Tuch get older and hearing rumblings there... Dahlin having conversations with KA seemingly not amused with what is going on, Peterka showing resistance, how long is it before these core players want out... like how many seasons is Dahlin going to accept never being in the playoffs... currently 7 years out of his NHL career? ... When is Thompson going to demand to be moved after spending 7 years of his career with no playoffs? The reality of this is we may be closer to rebuilding again then we are to making the playoffs... if it doesnt happen this year... Is Dahlin and Thompson gonna want to go into year 9 looking for their first appearance... If it doesnt happen this year or at the outside next. I think their will be anarchy in the locker room from some of our core leaders... trades demanded and the rebuild begins again... Who knows... it may have already been forced on us and our FO doesnt know or accept it... this summer will tell us a lot more...
  20. There is no way that the Sabres would trade him for a 1st and not package the two 1sts for a player. If they created another hole on one of the worst Ds in the league and just used the draft picks, that arena would be a ghost town next year.
  21. A lot of it comes from cap acrobatics trying to fit the large contracts with the 6mil Skinner dead cap. Murphy is an ok player, neither great nor bad but is more of a defensively skewed style player.
  22. But all the futures they traded to win. Versus all the 1st rounders Adams has used to get Buffalo to... no where.
  23. All this gloom and doom that we won't get a good return for Byram. If there are really several teams interested in Byram then a savvy GM can play that to his advantage. Lets not forget we have Jarmo now, maybe he can help make something good happen for a change.
  24. There's multiple reports he had to approve of Jokiharju for a 4th trade. Pegula is not involved enough to know hockey but still thinks he should chime in on a trade of a 3rd pairing defender.
  25. Ok. Touché. But expansion.
