Are there major changes coming this summer and who will make them?
Flashsabre replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Sounds like Leafs and Tavares are far apart. What kind of deal would you offer him to come in. 3 years at $7.5 million? -
Forget about NHL ever coming back. AHL? Those franchises are getting harder to acquire. ECHL definitely. They'd come to Buffalo. 1,000 fans at KBC...maybe. They can tarp off the upper deck. Buffalo would be the biggest city with the best scoreboard in the E. 😂 Since you brought up entertainment maybe a team in the Federal League? Lots of gooning it up.

Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor

The desire for chaos in the absence of any actual news. That's a little too obscure for Vegas books. But I'll take that action. What are you betting? Even money that Jarmo Kekalainen is still with the Sabres on July 6? 💸💸💸💸💸 -
They ended up getting a kid in THAT one too. One more similarity to this squad.

This seems a little out of left field. What makes you think it’s a real possibility? -

And that same someone wanting O'Reilly gone is a substantial portion of why this nightmare won't end. Don't punt O'Reilly, don't give Reinhart more time to think about how good it would be to be elsewhere, and then Eichel doesn't ask out of here. You'd still have Dahlin to go with them. Give Ullmark a LT offer at the time Reinhart should've gotten one and he likely doesn't bolt either. That's a nice core to be building around. Oh well. Maybe this next try with only altering the players and not those choosing the strategies they'll be attempting to implement will be the charm. (Is it already February 2 again? It seems like it was just yesterday that it was here. And the day before that. And the day before that. And ...) -
And then there’s the new additions to the front office that could potentially need some time to fully weigh in. If we make it halfway into July with next to nothing happening, then we seriously need to talk.

A friend of mine was told by someone in the know who made the call not to lock up Sam long-term even though Sam wanted one. I think you can all figure out who made that call (Hint:There is a reason Botts got another GM gig and nobody in the league holds his tenure here against him). -

Where would he go? And why? -
These kinds of metrics, while interesting, don't necessarily paint a complete picture. How many teams overall have been involved in the transactions? How many transactions are those that realistically the Sabres would not have been involved in? (ie. Toews in Winnipeg). I would discount all re-signings as those tend to occur throughout the summer. When looking at re-signings you have to consider the category they are in.. are they extensions of a player with 1 year left, a UFA, an RFA, etc. The most notable are probably players with 1 year left on the contract. Of that only Tuch is the real interest. Sure Clifton is in that category (as is Lafferty). A sit stands, it takes two to sign and I have no doubt those players have all said effectively, let's see how you improve the team before i decide to commit in Buffalo. So it would make sense no transactions have been made there. The UFA class is James Reimer... they aren't signing him now. The RFA class we know well, but they won't make qualifying offers until the Monday after the draft I would imagine. Overall I think the LACK of transactions is more indicative of the potential to make a move. So I'm not worried at all right now, any more than I remain unconvinced this owner can ice a winning organization. So why worry?

I don't say this with an abundance of confidence but I do see the addition of Jarmo, and to a lesser extent Stall, to the staff as positive indicators that there will be some transactions that at the minimum change the dynamic in this roster. They are outside eyes brought into a provincially run franchise. Jarmo is not known for his timidity. He has had a history of making deals and not looking back. He, more than the cautious GM, is not afraid to rework a roster that is coasting along. The draft is approaching where many deals are transacted. There are many reports that the GM has been communicating with a lot of "interested" trading parties. So the signs are that there will be some deals. How beneficial will they turn out to be? I can't say. We shall see. -
Does winning matter? Have you seen what is going on in Detroit? Lions and Tigers - "oh my". I live in Michigan and usually it is all U of M talk, winning has changed all that.

I used to search the internet in the mornings with a cup of joe and look for Sabre's rumors. Listen to Sabre's podcasts saying this might happen, this player will be traded, etc. After 5 years of KA-NADA, it doesn't happen anymore. So, when I am here, and see a spool of transactions, this trade that trade, I just shake my head. Nothing happens. After 5 years of KA, we should be skeptical (skeptical - hell, outright bull poop) of any "big" trade or acquisition. It is fun for hype and chin wagging. In reality, unless a grade A player publicly announces that he wants out of Buffalo or begs to play in Buffalo, then KA pulls the trigger. 5 years of pipe dreams. We will see if the additions of Stall and Jarmo make a difference and can change the stripes of the Zebra. I hope so. I need something to do when having a cup of early Joe. -
This team needs a legit center as we can’t count on Norris. Get pettersson.
-
From what I gather from various reports he sees himself as first pair guy and wants a contract to suit. Doesn’t really compute with Dahlin and power already on big deals.
-
Does Byram simply not want to be with the Sabres? Seems he is certainly worth re-signing? Is it that he won't sign any contract the Sabres put in front of him? Is this the same situation with JJ Peterka? If so, what possible future does this franchise have, if its best players don't want to be with the franchise at any price?
-
I meant extending Marchment beyond this season coming up. He's only got 1 year left I think.
-
Very incorrect - with Marchment salary the kraken have 18 million in SPACE now with only Kakko and Evans to sign. They may still buyout gru - that gets them to 22 million - ownership has major pressure on them to win so they’re trying to do something big. I would anticipate a top six overpaying in free agency or trade for a higher priced true top line player. also, the narrative here in Seattle has been buying out burky as he has not been healthy or good in 2 years. Nice guy having met him. But people here are thrilled with the fact, someone took him without any retention in fact, sort of shocked.
-
Burakovsky to the Blackhawks might change the narrative of them drafting Martone to be Bedard's winger. JBot dumping money to pay Marchment I guess.
-
Just as an aside it doesn't really matter to Pegula if they lose a little money each year as the value of NHL franchises keeps rising and they also have expansion fees on the horizon. He's making a killing if he ever does sell it.

You think too highly of yourself. My jokes have nothing to do with you. I’m just having fun.
