I am not sure that Pegula ownership helps those that care for an NHL team in WNY.

I agree that Benson is not fully developed. I'm also confident he'll get there...needs to work on his shooting ala Reinhart, but he'll never be a big time goal scorer, more a playmaker of course. Doan however has been very productive and a play driver every game he's been in our top 6. Lindy started him lower in the lineup and as soon as he was moved up he's been consistently productive. Again, he should NOT be the most skilled player on his line but he is a creative player in his own right and makes the smart possession-keeping play 9 times out of 10. When you compare that to guys like Tage and Tuch who are lower IQ/hockey sense guys, it's much needed. That was the problem with Peterka in this lineup, he was another who seemed to lack hockey sense. You can only have so many of those guys clogging up your top 6. Personally, I think we still have one too many. One or Tage or Tuch will need to go and be replaced by a smarter skilled guy to get over the hump. That's an entirely different conversation however.

How about Terry transferring managing control of the team to one of his children? What’s the worse that could happen? They fail to qualify for the playoffs for a decade +? I am not sure a sale of the team helps those who care for a NHL team in WNY.

It genuinely feels to me like the only way out starts with a new owner. Outside players don’t respect the team. We fear every good, established player on the roster is on the verge of bailing out. Our stars aren’t star enough to carry the team for more than a game or two. The coach isn’t the answer. The AHL coach isn’t the answer. The GM is over his head. We have quite a few good, young kids, but none of them project into stars.

I think you are right, though UPL’s hold on the role still seems precarious. Arbitrary lines in the schedule can always be drawn to support that one player is currently playing better than others. In UPL’s case, there is a legit argument, I think, for drawing a line after the Toronto game, which was his first NHL game of the year, coming off an injury and brief rehab stint. He was not good in that game. Since then he has a 2.31 GAA, a .907 save%, has saved 1.54 goals over expected, and has a 4-3 record. That’s pretty similar to what he was in 2023-24. Obviously a small sample though. If UPL can be the starter and provide that over 40 of our remaining games, we might slowly crawl back in it. I think he’s the best of some not great options, only because he at least did it once before and fairly recently.

It’s always a little dubious to blame poor development for a player failing to thrive. There is just no way to know how the player would have turned out on a different development path. In Levi’s case, though it is certainly too soon to write him off as a prospect, he has not been helped by the development path that Adams has put him on. It’s incredible that Adams is still an NHL GM.

Crazy...Leafs score on first shot of the game in four straight games. They are often out played and outshot but goalies keep them in games. Goaltending is so important with every team now capable of winning on any given night.

After all these years of no playoffs, I LOL'd at the mention of " Patience " .

8 degrees this morning. My dog peed immediately and ran back to the door.

It’s Friday!

It is also used in hockey

Levi has been an outright liability in Rochester this season, calling him up would be absolutely insane. He would get eaten alive.
-
Same one that saved the Blackhawks a few decades back.
-
Our offensive numbers are good. Our defensive numbers are good (they actually are this year). Our goaltending stinks. If we get a breakout goalie to play at or near the top third of the league like our offense and defense, then we are jolted.

New owner or Terry needs to get the ***** out of the way.
-
We have enough assets for a new front office to re-tool (or is it tool in our case?) to make a competitive team. Not cup contenders but certainly playoff contenders. Voted for new leader.

Oops, I hit poll only content. Have at it.

I believe so yes.

Three headed goalie monster coming to an end?

What difference does any of it make. Adams isn’t trading anyone, whether that’s Pegula telling him he can make no moves or not is irrelevant at this point. This management team simply is unable to get anything done. I reflect back to that statement “the answer is in this room”. There is no help coming, no hope. The only constant I see is that the answer is not in that room. And I find myself asking, how long can this actually go on for? -
I just remember the game against the Caps where UPL started and gave up two goals in the first few minutes. Sabres came back to score three goals and led 3-2 after the first period. Caps tied it with less than a minute left in the 2nd period, and UPL blanked them in the 3rd period, blanked them in the OT, and won the extra point by stopping all 5 Caps shooters in the Shootout. UPL has game. Needs to bring it more often. I’m not trading UPL until one of our other goalies starts winning games, and that includes Levi if he gets called up.
