They are not: no Benson, no Kulich, no Power. Of interest is how the Sabres top prospects slid despite good rookie AHL seasons: Östlund from 57 overall to 67 and Helenius from 23 down to 58. Mrtka enters as Buffalos top-ranked prospect at 43. Rosen - an honourable mention last year - is now considered graduated.

Ruff used to do it the right way - see what he has and then design and implement a system that the players he has can be successful at. He had several different systems (at least 3) throughout that 1st 16 or so years he was the HC. Not sure if it's the game passing him by, the assistants he had being unable to actually implement a system, or the trip to Europe (that really can't be used as an excuse beyond early November especially when the team was in a playoff spot by late November (but back out of one by the end of that month)), but he did not do that, at least not successfully, last year. With Reimer between the pipes, they started to gel, but until it's demonstrated to not have been because they were playing more relaxed with nothing to realistically play for and their opponents being unable to avoid the 'we don't take these guys seriously' letdown will have to assume those are the reasons they had some degree of success down the stretch and it wasn't because a winning system was installed down the stretch.

Are any of the young guys that are on the Sabres roster considered part of the Sabres pool? If not, yeah, lower-middle of the pack seems right. But if the real young guys that are already Sabres are included, being much below 12 seems to be a dis.

6 suits Benson: squat, old school and in defiance of expectations. I need Norris to be fully engaged in being a long-term key Sabre. Silly, but that felt like step in the right direction. Wanted Kess to take 5 or 6 but 8 works. I like that all these numbers are old school. Danforth already the most likable 15 in team history. 😜

Elite Prospects put the Sabres pool at 19th overall. Seems about right to me.

Most hated NHL team (want to see win the least)
Hawerchuk replied to mjd1001's topic in The Aud Club
The hate for Montreal, Philly, Penguins and Bruins has been put on the back burner for a long time now. Sabres have no rival games anymore because they are so lousy. That said, the correct answer is Toronto. I never, ever want them to lift the Cup! -
Their 3 questions are pretty much the same questions we all have. I'd add can Quinn be something as a 4th question and then my biggest question I'm still asking (every year) and that is what are they? What's the team identity? What exactly is the system and what do they want it to be? It seems to me for success you decide an identity and then you build for that identity and play that way. We seem to just rotate bodies and ideas and try to let something develop, but it never does.

Jersey Number Updates for Benson and Norris
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I keep seeing people saying this is the first time a forward has worn 6 but technically Housley came in as a center AND defenseman. I just hope Norris plays more than 9 games this season. -

Montreal for me. Toronto is second but their failures make them more laughable than hated. They'd be first if they actually won something. I would have expected Boston to be first here. -
I just can’t get that level of emotion anymore. I need a purple pill for hockey.

Vegas. Made a mockery of LTIR -
Had you asked this question prior to the stupid 14 years in the desert, would've had a different answer. Likely Filly, possibly Bah-stan, or even a very outside chance of the Aisles, Rags, or Texasses. But it was asked now, 14 years into an indeterminant journey into the desert and at this point in time, there can be only 1 answer, like the goalie in the Nike commercials used to say: die Leafs die.

I am outraged at the lack of respect shown the leadership of Girgensons and Okposo. The blood sweat and tears on those jerseys were barely dry.

Jersey Number Updates for Benson and Norris

that was very intentional. the kids doing the Sabre socials there are pretty good. -

Certainly not by accident. Whether it's clever is up for debate. Now, when the starting lineup is Benson-Norris-Thompson and they go stand in line for the anthems (in the playoffs), will I snicker? Also up for debate.

Wonder how much Norris had to pay him for that?

Jessica plays Sabalenka tonight in the semifinals. Sabalenka is the #1 ranked player, will be well rested because her QF opponent withdrew, and is the person who eliminated her last year in the US Open. It's an uphill battle, but Jessica won their last meeting, in Cincy a week and a half ago.

They have to be. There’s no way they did that by accident.

No one is really saying anything other than they are on the practice squad. Also Poyer was in the last episode of Hard Knocks.

My age is showing, but I'll always think of Schoeny as #6

Is Sabres Media that clever?

All I know about Silver is that he looks like the scream painting. So he does get some points for that.
