Exactly, I don’t view it the same as those others. He’s a black ace who is only in due to injuries. Besides, they haven’t won anything yet, one of his defensive lapses may cost them a game.

Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor

There is no scenario where this is “career suicide.” As others have pointed out, it’s a no lose situation. If things work out, he’s the genius who saved a sinking ship. If they don’t, the narrative will be “he could only do so much with what he had to work with.” Most people taking on new assignments prefer to take over an under-performing business or department as opposed to a thriving one and this is no different. -

I have a really hard time believing he took the job as a subordinate, non decision making advisor to the sinking ship of Kevyn Adam’s. That would be career suicide. I think he will be promoted to GM before the season starts. Any roster restructuring will be done on Adam’s watch as cover and clean slate for Jarmo. - Today

Meh, he's played 2 games in the playoffs and wasn't traded. Not the same as the Eichel/Samson/ROR.

On Roger McQueen https://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2025/5/14/24424541/2k25-draft-profiles-roger-mcqueen-nhl-brandon-wheat-kings-hockey "But onto that injury. At first, McQueen’s injury was simply known as “Back Injury”; which was initially was rumored to be a slipped disc, but was clarified later to be Spondylolysis, or a Pars Fracture of the Spine, which can be quite dangerous, but is quite common in both contact and non-contact sports where forced spine extension is a part of the deal (Gymnasts and O-linemen are frequently the victims of this), and while it usually does require a brace, physical therapy, and plenty of rest, it is usually treatable without surgery, and from his direct correspondence with local journalists, it appears he never needed it."

I can’t believe yet another ex-Sabre is going to win the cup immediately upon leaving. The hockey gods can ***** off.

Whenever someone mentions chewing of the mouthguard, the first image that pops into my head is Tkachuk.

My only hope is that it works. -
May mock: 1. Schaefer 2. Misa 3. Martone 4. Desnoyers 5. Hagens 6. Martin 7. O'Brien 8. Frondell 9. McQueen 10. Mrtka

We get people asking in the middle of a giant thunder storm if that loud boom sound was gunshots.

Martone is going to be a playmaker with some jam. Good vision and solid skating, soft hands. He's gonna be a 1st or 2nd line winger and my guess is he goes to Chicago at 3 to play with Bedard.

Good luck, Post Malone is definitely one of those "Don't judge a book by its cover" guys. He looks kind of scary but seems to genuinely be a good dude; hell he was a YouTuber with a couple friends originally.

Great show. The beauty of this band is that it's not just Alison Krauss singing with a backup band. Union Station has some top flight multi-instrumentalists who all stole the show at some point. And Alison doesn't always sing lead. Male lead is sung by Russell Moore, who is actually new with the band, replacing Dan Tyminski. They sound very similar to each other; Tyminski sang Man of Constant Sorrow for the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack, to give you an idea of this voice. And Jerry Douglas plays dobro; amazing talent. And on some songs they all sang harmony and it's hard to believe how tight they were live. I know they are country/bluegrass, but some of their song hit as hard as any heavy metal.

Do you live in a city with over a million people? That's the crazy thing- it's like if people kept livestock in the Buffalo city limits or Lackawanna or Cheektowaga. I've seen people with goats, sheep, even horses in their backyards, on city lots.

Is it? I’m mostly just trying to make myself feel ok about it all But yes that’s what I’m hoping for - the jarmo is in essence already GM. He takes over and Adams gets bumped up or he takes over and Adams gets bumped down -

Interesting, and very plausible. Not sure that JK would perish in the Red Wedding, being an experienced and presumably leaguewide-respected GM who was very recently brought in -- I'd guess he'd probably just replace KA or, possibly with Lindy, advise TP on choosing a new GM. -
That is true. Later in the season Savoie kept dropping. I can't remember if his play trailed off or what the reason was but it seemed people were losing interest. Hagens is a bit like that this year. Misa went way up but Hagens had been top 2 or 3 and is now a question mark around 6 or even lower. Desnoyers kept rising with his playoff performances but now after his last bit people souring again. Very few players are seen as can't miss this year. I think Philly got all those picks in the wrong year. I normally would never trade a top 10 first rounder but in the Sabres case, if there is a great deal out there this might be the year to do it. Whoever they take will be a question mark if they do pick. You know the guy I am now intrigued with is Martone. Others have gone up and down the rankings but he's quietly stayed there around 4. Nobody talking about him much other than "big" as a description and everybody obsessed with centers but what he turns into will be interesting to see.

Similarly, so many things in society seem to drive us to make binary choices— this or that, this candidate or that one, is this good or bad, etc. I’m continually reminding myself that I don’t have to have an opinion on everything. -
It feels like the first time since that initial group of hirings (Craig Patrick and others) where he has actually tried to bring in outside help.
-
I agree with you that it was an understandable approach for a novice owner. The problem is that he hasn't learned from his mistakes. That's the maddening aspect of how he has handled his ownership. There's a stubbornness that he is going to do it his way without the benefit of enough consultation from more knowledgeable people inside and outside the organization. Hopefully, the hiring of this experienced executive is a step in the right direction. He needs to build on it.
-
He still got drafted right where he was ranked. Benson on the other hand dropped quite far.

If that happens, the Dallas GM would be committed for insanity. And Jarmo would be charged for a felonious theft. However, I do see Jarmo working to bring in a veteran goalie to our questionable mix at that position. You may be right that UPL could be dealt in the offseason. He had a big-time opportunity to secure the position for himself. He didn't live up to the task.
