Sabres looking for Senior Advisor for Adams and Hockey Department

But I thought there were only like 32 of these jobs available and anyone would be a fool to turn one down. -

But Terry likes Lindy. And Kevyn listens. You don't need a search when you've got the vibes. -

The same level of search that talked to Lindy and no other head coaches? Meanwhile Coach Berube is doing ok in Toronto. The Sabres never bothered to talk to him. -
Sabres looking for Senior Advisor for Adams and Hockey Department
Pimlach replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I want this fictitious "senior advisor" to actually be the President of Hockey Operations and to have a Stanley Cup pedigree, to be respected around the league, to work full time, and to be in Buffalo while doing it. IF he meets these requirement then he should decide who the GM is, what the rest of the FO looks like, who the coaches are, how the roster is built, and how the farm system is run. Is this troo much to ask? Isn't this normal for 31 other teams? Has the entire world has gone mad? -

Eric Staal hired as a special assistant to Kevyn Adams
JohnC replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
The initial discussion related to the Staal hiring for an ill-defined position. In that particular situation I have little problem for him not to permanently relocate to Western NY. For the GM position, my position is different. With respect to Karmonos at his current position and where he resides, I would prefer he lives in the Buffalo but accepting to another arrangement if it is working. -

Part of me wonders if the Sabres might actually be done with their search, going solely with Eric Staal as their answer. In their minds, they only needed a special advisor, not a senior one. -

Wasn't there a rumor that Dudley would not join the Sabres if Adams is GM? Add Lou and Holland to the list. I would guess the list is long. -

Updated for a reality check: One month after the 5th consecutive season without playoffs of the Kevyn Adams tenure and the second straight of going backwards. And they've swapped out the strength coach and hired a rookie management intern. -

I had figured Okposo was going to get tapped for a role similar to what Staal just signed up for. He always struck me as a sharp guy with ambitions in that area. My inclination is to think he was sharp enough to decide there were better places to start his career than a questionable and precarious Kevyn Adams regime. - Today

Terry is just f🤬🤬king helpless. Who structures their organization under a GM with no experience who has failed for 6 years and then approaches two of the best front office people of all time and ask them to work for this incompetent clown. This organization is so ass backwards that it is embarrassing. The Keystone Cops of sports organizations. Turf Adams and you could have Holland or Lou or Dudley in here tomorrow at the top of of the organization and they would instantly build a front office 10 times better than the crap show that has failed here for 15 years. And Adams has been on the job for 6 years and just now they decide he needs a babysitter so he’s not so incompetent. You can’t even make this stuff up. -

Adams and Staal will relate to Galivan what they remember Rod the Bod doing in the gym. That's all he'll need to succeed. -

Scouting is on the road job. You cannot scout by sitting in Buffalo. Being in management is another story altogether. First he is essentially a rookie learning a new job. Part of the learning is involvement, shadowing the higher level execs, attending meetings, being at the games, being there when things come up to see and learn and help. ZOOM meetings online are great for preplanned meetings and events, but for leadership jobs you will miss a lot by being away. I would require my special assistant to be in the place where it happens, at least during the regular season. Who knows though, he may be in Buffalo half the time and on the road with the team too. -
2025 NHL Entry Draft Thread, Sabres Draft 9th
FrenchConnection44 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
We might still have not ended up doing well in the lottery, but I still think we would regret not giving ourselves the chance to draft in the top 4-5, especially with a kid like Martone. If the end of season success, when there was no pressure, doesn't translate to next season, just as it hasn't in the past, all the "this is great, we are winning games," Feels many were having will mean zero. Except more frustration. Personally, I take no solace in meaningless regular season wins. Btw, here's ESPN's take on Martone (some here were arguing he doesn't have physicality to go with his frame; I just don't agree with that). 4. Porter Martone RW, Brampton Steelheads (OHL) The 6-3 right winger projects as a high-end second-line player with a competitive streak reminiscent of Corey Perry and Tom Wilson. A big, physical forward, Martone is a dual-threat offensive player with ability to score on his own and facilitate. His competitive nature will make him an effective agitator, and he will physically impose himself on opponents. He needs to hone his competitiveness and physicality to increase his effectiveness, and adjust his skating posture to become a more efficient skater. His unique combination of scoring ability, size and hard skill make him a very attractive prospect. While his most confident projection is a top-six forward, Martone has a legitimate chance to become a top-line winger if his skating improves. If McQueen falls to us, which he could due to the injury, that will be a high risk / high reward player given his lack of playing time and the injury but that too could be a stroke of good fortune--though I suspect someone will take a shot before he gets to us. But, dang, picking 9th just sucks relative to how the team played most of the seasons (which was a bottom 4-5 squad). -

The USNTDP guy... who works with kids under 20... is now going to the NHL to work with ... the youngest roster in the league. Ok, ok, you win, Adams. It totally checks out. Couldn't Staal have at least provided a name of one of the assistant S&C coaches on the Wild or Habs or Panthers?
