  1. Past hour
  2. If Jarmo does become, I hope he is given the authority to end this problem.
  3. Cue up the Rich Strike Kentucky Derby clip.... The Sabres are here
  4. Any player that has a real problem with a GM who hasn't sniffed success in 6 years on the job probably shouldn't be here.
  5. 3 games, 3 games, 5 games, and 3 games. Now, in that 2nd stretch they did pick up 3 points and in the 3rd they picked up 1. But to have had 14 losses in only 32 games come in 4 bunches indicates that they are suffering frequent losing streaks. And they've only had 1 winning streak longer than 2 games and that's the one they're currently on. Though that 3 game streak where they consistenly lost in OT WAS part of a 7 game point streak. The margin for error for them is just so darn slim. If Adams really is on his way out, that's why. He never put together a team that didn't need a whole lot of things to go better than should likely be expected to happen. They aren't out. And hopefully Adams getting ousted isn't the only thing that happens near term.
  6. Maybe. I’ve never been able to do that, personally. Not even on overseas flights.
  7. It depends really. He was the guy who selected these guys, either through draft, trade or signing. Especially for the younger guys, he gave them their shot at the NHL. They may be frustrated with the team's level of success, but do you think they blame Adams? (It's not a rhetorical question; I really don't know.) For some, they may have nothing but positive things to say about him; for others there may be frustration. For instance, the goalies would have good reason to be frustrated. The players shuffling up and down between the Sabres and Amerks might be okay with the NHL exposure they're getting, or are possibly frustrated they're not seeing more. I'm not sure it's a universal sentiment either way. Why the heck are you hanging around a Sabres forum then? 😉
  8. Thought meaningful relationship made them part of the club, and they did not betray close confidences if they wanted to stay on the inside. Marv referred to Jerry as a jerk. That says a lot.
  9. Who’s paying?
  10. So the final playoff spot comes down to the Scott v Pi matchup and Monday Night Football. Scott is up by 3 points and what’s interesting is each team has one guy yet to play…and they’re both running backs for the same team 😅 1. Five Hole locked into the 1 seed at 12-3. 2. Wagons locked into the 2 seed at 10-5. Three teams for two spots: 3. Winner of the above is locked into the three seed (via points scored tiebreaker) at 9-6. The winner’s season points scored will be higher than 1755. The loser is out with an 8-7 record. If they tie, they’re both out. Given that we play with decimal points to the hundredths, that’s incredibly unlikely. 4. Grave locked into the four seed at 9-6 (unless Scott scores negative tonight and still wins OR they tie tonight). Season points 1755. Pasta just misses the playoffs at 9-6 via points scored tiebreaker (unless there’s a tie tonight). Season points 1646. Not rooting for it, but could you imagine if y’all actually tied? It would go down as one of the worst bad beat stories in fantasy football history.
  11. It depends on the player. Some will be hopeful that things will turn around and the team will get better. Some will be (should be) scared that they will be leaving town. OTOH, maybe those players will be glad that they are leaving town? Does a marginal player care about being on a winning team or not?
  12. Could be. And that could be the case with Jack Quinn too; I think he's finding his role on the team but it hasn't quite clicked yet. (Yes I know Quinn is a year older.)
  13. If the GM gets ousted I doubt if there will be strong feelings either way. Maybe the players who hate it here will hope the new GM moves them. OTOH, if the coach gets ousted, I think some of them will jump for joy, while others will hate to see him go.
  14. One difference this year is no extended losing streaks. They have exactly 50 games left. .600 pace of play from here earns them 92 points, which might be enough. Win three (or 2-1-2) of every five is the pace.
  15. Depends on the player. Some of them got more from Adams than they were going to get anywhere else.
  16. Last year the Canadians were 11-16-3 on this date. They started the climb to the playoffs by routing us 6-1 in the next game. On the bright side it can be done, on the other hand we are still the same old Sabres until something changes. January is a very interesting month. All teams have compressed schedules. No time for practice or IR recovery. There will be movement in the standings because of it. Just hoping we are on the right side of it pre Olympic break.
  17. It’s entirely possible as he mentioned his dad had a long term illness. I guess it would be interesting to find out how many other people were interviewed or considered for the GM/Senior Advisor Role
  18. Jerry is a reflection of the rise of social media and its influence on reporting and the relationships teams have with the beat reporters who cover them. Too many reporters seem to seek opportunities to make themselves adversaries to the team personnel they want information from and, rightfully so, team personnel are going to be less forthcoming in offering such information. I miss the days when reporters like Larry Felser could sit in a hotel bar with a GM, coach, or player and simply have a conversation and establish meaningful relationships. Before and after a win or a loss. Trust is a lost value in journalism nowadays. And we are worse off for it.
  19. "This team" didn't exist before this season. This is fun.
  20. Lol, let's not act like Jerry was some visionary. Betting the under on the old Bills wasn't some bold move. Pumping the well of despair is a cheap stunt to get likes.
  21. Going pretty deep here but.. Is there a chance that he was dealing with his father's illness that was progressively getting worse... And that he may have been offered. Or at least it would have been let known to him that there was a position available with the sabers that would require more involvement than he had up to this point? Maybe the general manager position? I don't think this is the case, but could it be that they wanted to move Adams upstairs and hire Jarmo to replace him, but until his family situation gave him more time, he didn't want the full role at the beginning of the season?
  22. A Litmus Test up next with the Flyers: will the Sabres let them out skate and out work them again?
  23. Today
  24. And they need to do this as play around the league gets tighter and more intense. This team has shown season after season that it can put up good performances for short stretches when there is no pressure, but never seems to rise up in pressure situations. Its the hallmark of a skilled, but not very good team (if that makes sense). Show me. I’m from Missouri.
  25. Jerry sometimes had columns I felt. But his inability to ever be happy made him like every old uncle whose best was past. Absolutely miserable.
