Well, the Sabres will be out of it tomorrow morning (standings-wise) regardless. The Thanksgiving thing is really just a self-evident observation that 1/4 of the way through the season there will be clear good teams and clear bad teams. Last year at Thanksgiving, Boston, The Rangers, Calgary, and Vancouver were in playoff positions. They missed, replaced by Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton, and St. Louis. So, it is entirely likely there will be some changeover between now and April.

So, I woke up at 12:37am, in the Puumba section of the Animal Kingdom lodging at Disney, flight left at 8am, landed back in Buffalo at 10:19am. 6 glorious days of Disney, the weather perfect each day. I was able to see the highlights of the missed games, follow their exploits through you all. I miss the sun, the 80 degrees no humidity and the pure bliss a vacation brings. But Its game night, time to get back to business with our beloved Sabres. They will win tonight, if for no other reason than I’m already 3 beers in to a Canadian 12 pack I picked up on the way home……..ya, I have faith…..no……hope……no, no, not those, I have the determination in my mind that this team will play like a herd of stampeding Buffalo tonight….. Penguins 2 Sabres 6 So let it be written, So let it be done… GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Well the old adage is if you're out of it at Thanksgiving you're out of it so after tonight check the standings.
- Today

I'm still not thinking this team is for real.... I think they are a below average team that is on a 1 to 2 week Good run, like we've seen many many times over the past decade. With that said, a win tonight will get me interested... Interested for the rest of the weekend. If they can take four of the next six points, I'll keep that interest, if they can take five or six of the next six points, I'm back in almost 100% I just want a good high scoring. Exciting win though. Tonight of course is about winning but the day before Thanksgiving? Give me pure entertainment.

Malkin and Eriksson have really picked up their game this year too. It's an odd team. I'm sure Dubas was getting all set for a rebuild and now Crosby etc. has him in a weird place. Got to watch those guys like Brazeau around the net too. Silovs is a good goalie. I wanted Sabres to trade for him in the summer. Anyway, Pittsburgh is hard to figure out, but Crosby definitely wants to be captain of Team Canada at the Olympics, I guarantee that. Watch that net front. Pitt knows how to score in the dirty areas. -

The best approach the Sabres can take is to stand pat and work with the players within the system. Our blueline unit is mostly set, with the hope that Kesserling eventually returns this season. Norris is soon to return, so there will be some shuffling of the lines. I don't know if Kulich will return this season, but if he does, then Östlund and Rosen can move up to fill in when needed. The roster has gotten enough buffer to the point that Greenway can be given games off when needed, which is another sign that roster depth is becoming a reality. Instead of searching the market for new players it would make sense to work out a deal with Tuch to solidify the roster. In my view, he is an essential player whose play is a plus and his presence provides a good example for the youngsters. Keeping in-house talent is more important than searching outside for talent. The position I'm taking doesn't foreclose player moves in the offseason, the better time to make deals. Hopefully, there will be some changes in the staffing who may be better at making player moves. -
Harder to matchup on the road as the Pens have last line change.

I was trying to think of when the last time was that the Sabres made a mid-season trade, not trade deadline, to acquire a veteran player with the intent that the acquired player would better help them reach their goal to either make the playoffs or advance further in the playoffs that season, than the asset given up. Thankfully there is a website that tracks all trades: https://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/trade_list_by_team/Buffalo_Sabres/1 People would have different views on what qualifies, but it's a pretty rare thing. You need to go back to the 90's and then have some debate about the merits of Geoff Sanderson for Brad May and a 3rd on Feb 4, 1998. It is such a rare thing that it is a wonder that fans, me included, spend time speculating as though such a trade might actually happen. -
Fine but make them pay for it. Don't give them anything.

If they bring the must win intensity of the Canes game they will prevail, and that would be a winning streak. -
Crosby and Malkin can play that game, though.

Our part is eh hmm…much smaller 🙂

I am not interested in Quinn Hughes. He is Bryson sized and one dimensional. His offensive abilities are excellent but the Sabres need robust defensive types. Dahlin can produce nearly as much while bringing some hits and more defense. Hughes’ Norris trophy is a reflection of the view of Art Ross for Dmen vs all around Dmen. Besides, he probably doesn’t want to come to Buffalo and have to share the #1 slot with Dahlin. Sherwood would be a good addition if extended. -
The Sabres have never routinely neutralized Sid. He usually feasts on Buffalo meat. You have seen more than enough hockey to know this. Is McDavid really the better overall player than Crosby was in his prime? McDavid is currently the better scorer, I'm ok with saying that. Sid has 3 Cups along with two Conn Smythe's and two Olympic gold medals in his trophy case. McDavid has some catching up to do.

A generation’s best player tends to live in the heads of just about everyone.

They can play D, having been to the finals. They just haven’t done so this year. I am just trying to get rid of a goalie and get an asset for him.
