  1. Past hour
  2. The Sabres need their "Major League" moment. Maybe the whole lot of them need glasses to see the puck better? A cardboard cutout of a nekked GM Howdy Doody, except they get to put clothes ON IT when they win.
  3. For those that don't know, the drummer in the first moments of this video, is the late great Ted Reinhardt. It was an honor to have watched him play. Buffalo music hall of fame inductee and he could play with anyone on this planet. His work with George Paleo in the band Gamalon is some of the best WNY music ever produced. You tube it, you won't be disappointed. Ted's brother Willie is a legendary Buffalo guitarist as well.
  4. Just watched Caps beat the Bolts in OT. It was intense playoff like hockey already. Man, the Caps are a heavy team.
  5. That's a separate conversation and I agree it was a bad contract, hence I said you couldn't get more in a trade. We're a desperate franchise that has to take risks like that sometimes. That one was a bad one and it's compounding with Norris hurt.
  6. Omg Bob Halkidis! Ric Seiling, Jeff Parker, Ritchie Dunn, Wesley Goforth this is priceless
  7. If the Sabres had this last year ... playoffs: Yeah, I know ... three games - but a boy can dream, right? Again, small sample - but last year .919% gets you 7th in the league ... but the 2.73 was middle of the road - tells you the Sabres are giving up waaaaay too many shots.
  8. Today
  9. So I went up to Buffalo this past weekend to visit my mom. I got a good old fashioned Buffalo fish fry at Jades Restaurant, an old school tavern, on Broadway in Depew. Man it was delicious. I'm the guy a little closer to the camera on the left and then there's my mom, 89, and her partner, 94 (and still drives very well).
  10. Ed Kilgore and Wes Goforth were Channel 2's top 2 sports guys back then. Wes is the one next to Ed shortly after the video starts. Know someone who still has the 45. The B-side is Sabres highlights from those 1st 5 seasons.
  11. You like that for memories go back a little further and remember this:
  12. Cozens is 3C in Ottawa. He might bump up with Tkachuk injured but before that he was bumped down below Pinto. Honestly though I don't think Ottawa cares all that much. From their perspective they managed to dump a gimpy player on a big contract. If they end up trading Cozens away at some point it's still a win for them. That second might even be a big deal the way we are going. It's weird to see the Sabres being talked about this much from the usual hockey talkers this early. They are usually ignored or get minimal coverage. It just all feels so much worse than it usually does and this stuff doesn't help ease that.
  13. Well, Botterill had him as the guy on his list that Adams was keen on distancing himself from We can only assume Terry held Adams at gunpoint though and fed him that scouting report
  14. Hey look Marco Rossi is a #1 center... who could have known.
  15. I dialed it. I had to. I was hoping for something, but nope. The number is not in service.
  16. I’m not a Cozens fan. He will never improve his hockey IQ. The takeaway is though that Cozens had value around the league and Adams turned that into a major red flag with a higher salary and threw. 2nd round pick in to boot.
  17. If he makes it 10 games after his return I will be flabbergasted.
  18. Interesting comments Taro. The only players the US Olympic Team decided on are Quinn Hughes, Charlie McAvoy, Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Brady Tkachuk, and Matthew Tkachuk. The rest is decided in January. Matt Tkachuk is out until late December, maybe longer. Olympics start Feb 5th. Tuch and Thompson should be going hard because what they do now really counts. With injuries there could be surprises. With Zito helping select players I think that players that are gritty and tough will be prioritized, after skill of course. Tuch was dinged up in camp, he might be nursing something. He also can be streaky and break out at anytime. Moving Tuch up with Thompson and Benson will help him get going. I hope that line sticks for awhile and all three get going.
  19. Does any of it matter anymore? There's no end in sight.
  20. I haven't watched the games live, but I did watch them on replay, so take this for what you will...just my opinion. I think through 3 games Tuch is playing like he normally does, with ONE exception. He's staying away from the net on the offensive zone. Everything I saw when watching him, his skating, his forcheck, seems the same...the one thing that stood out is he is just keeping to the perimeter on the offensive zone a lot more than he did last year. He doesn't have many shots yet, but if you look at a heat map of where he has taken them from, it backs this up.
  21. I'm not sure why people still think Cozen is good. Even some of the people in Ottawa (some, not all) are starting to think he's not as good as they hoped. I posted this in a thread the other day, but since he got to Ottawa, he's played 30 games, has 7 goals and 13 assists and is a -10(including playoffs, not preseason of course). Thats an 82 game pace of 19 goals, 35 assists, and a -27. Yes, a -27 on a team that made the playoffs last year. And I'm not sure what the numbers look like this year, but some of his deeper dive analytics....the guys he played with in Ottawa last year had their numbres get worse after Cozens started playing with them. Batherson is the guy that they put with Cozens the most. Batherson's Corsi% is down 4 whole percentage points with Cozens vs without him. Fenwick down almost 5 points. Shots down 3, expected goals down 8! Scoring chances down 5, High danger down 3. Maybe tomorrow Cozens will have a good game. Maybe after tomorrow he will turn the corner and become a good player. But right now he is a bad player. Teammates get WORSE when he is with them vs when they are with anyone else. There are plenty of things to criticize the Sabres for that are legit. Some people just don't do the work.
  22. That 2011 year is the year he took over the team. Tehcnically he was owner during those playoffs, but he came on board that season when the coaching staff, roster, everyting was set before he bought them. He had very little if any input to any part of that team. Once he started having input and makign decisions, that is when the drought started. Since his first full season where he actually started making decisions, that is when they haven't made the playoffs since. So the team hasn't played a full season that he has been in controll and made the playoffs.
  23. You made my day. Dick Bauerle wrote the song, looks like him on guitar. He had a recording studio in Kenmore. Teddy Reinhard opened the song on drums. One of the best drummers I've ever seen anywhere. His brother Tommy played bass on the song. They both starred in the Jazz Fusion band Gamalon and played with numerous great musicians for decades in Buffalo. They are in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. I lived in their neighborhood. Their parents owned a florist shop in the Town of Tonawanda, still there and still family run. Thanks for the memories! That was Ed Kilgore a local sportscaster, channel 4, I think (?) As for the Sabres - Housley with some air guitar. I also recognize Larry Playfair, Scott Arniel, Mike Ramsey, Dave Andreychuck, and Mike Filigno. Probably some others .... Loved It!
  24. Yesterday
  25. The Mets owner did just a couple weeks ago
  26. Charlie Jacobs did last year. The owner of the Bruins, ironically a guy from Buffalo, sent a letter to the Bruins fans. https://www.facebook.com/NHLBruins/posts/a-message-from-nhlbruins-ceo-charlie-jacobs/1147449590729769/ Not sure this is an apology exactly, but it was a sincere effort to let their fans know that missing the playoffs one time in over 20 years was unsatisfactory. In addition, after the Bruins were booed at a home game the coach said their fans were right to boo and the team deserved it. Their Captain, Marchand, said the same thing. Quite the contrast from the Sabres players, coach Granato, and Captain Okposo, when this happened in Buffalo. Culture is not a throw away word in Boston.
