It's hard to suggest after 14 years it has anything to do with luck.

The analytics department built the Sabres?
-
Methinks you are suffering from the shiny new toy effect.
-
I like some of the analytics... And they can tell you a lot, but you cannot draw absolute conclusions from them.
-
And that last one invalidates their statistical method. 😉

Straight Talk: 1st Line: what do Sabres really have on this roster?
LGR4GM replied to Spoonman's topic in The Aud Club
Because you keep taking shots at stats and you're flat out wrong. I know it's hard for boomers but we're not required to just let you spout whatever and then not counter it with facts. Stats literally tell you about things happening on the ice. That's what they do, you wanna argue that they are interpreted incorrectly go for it. You don't understand the stats, what they tell us, or even all the ones that exist. I'm not required to also ignore them because of your knowledge gap or to not defend them for the same. There is so much evidence the eye test doesn't tell you everything. Let alone before we introduce bias into the eye test. Eye test is tool, subject to the whims of the watcher. -
Matches the eye test, actually. He's been playing very well. This is what happens when you let the analytics department build the team. The team looks great but still loses.

I hope as a fan that I never get to the point where I’m so enamoured by a GM’s work that I would defend their every move, even when they make an obvious mistake on a player transaction. I hope the opposite is also true. I think we fans are generally too quick to want to declare winners and losers in trades. Given the ages of these players, there is a long way to go on judging this one. I was not thrilled with the trade at the time, mostly because I thought, and still think, Adams backed himself into a corner and was reacting to a negative situation of his own creation, rather than proactively making a trade to make the team better. I would not reverse the trade today though. Right now, as with the McLeod and Byram deals, I am pleased with the trade on the micro-level, but it has not proven to be very impactful on the macro-level.

How do the Sabres fare on this 6 game (5 on the WC) road trip?
SABRES 0311 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
They’ll go 4-2. Losses against EDM and WPG. Then again they could go 2-2-2 picking up just half the points available which I think is what they are on track for the season. -
Kesselring was expected to be our win though, If he finally gets injury free this might have been Adams' best trade so far.
-
Who do you move for Norris (and eventually Kesserling)?
Sabres73 replied to SabresBaltimore's topic in The Aud Club
I think it's a tough call which one personally. We need a few more starts from them and make a move after this extended road trip. At least they'll be fresh and trying to seize the opportunity. -
PerreaultForever started following What Are You Thoughts On Norris? and Are the Sabres just unlucky?
-
Jacob Bryson as the most dominant player in the NHL last week. and people wonder why I pay little attention to stats.
-
Healthy Norris pushes players into the roles they are most suited for. If he stays healthy they can go on a run. He has to stay healthy though. Then get him on the Sammy plan over the summer.
-
Browsing through some hockey stats sites and stumbled on these nuggets. Are we bad? Or suffering from bad luck/injury? You decide…. I don’t think these stats include the Jets games. And the last one I threw in for giggles.
-
In fairness though, Doan is looking more like a bottom 6 guy lately as well. He's fine, but also not that great. Still remains to be seen if we won the trade or lost it (and it might actually be even) and we won't know at all until we see more from Kesselring.

Porous Five Hole replied to SabresBaltimore's topic in The Aud Club
It is noteworthy to me that Östlund had a team low 12:03 of ice time last night. While we like everything we see from him, I believe he’s best suited in Rochester in all situations for now. -
The comparison is meaningless. Ottawa didn't think Cozens was going to be as good as Norris. They traded for a guy they thought could play regularly rather than a guy who is always on IR. Nobody has ever doubted Norris' talent, it's always about his ability to stay healthy and still is.
-
Interesting. Ik cozens has only 4 ev goals this yr but didn't realize it's only 1 over the last month.

I don’t know about separating himself. Lyon did not play much in November after carrying the load prior to that. It’s hard to trust UPL based on this. Last year he was terrible, Reimer finished the season much better than UPL.
-
-
I don't think UPL is clearly the #1 moving forward. He seems to have some of his best spurts, past and present, whenever he senses some new competition for him coming into the picture. Overall, though, he sometimes looks good, once in a brief while he looks very good, he never looks great. And often he doesn't look good at all. In a 3 goalie situation on a perpetual loser like we've been, if they can't figure out who is the best, who is the worst, or who is in between, then they might as well take the easy way out and make it about the money by picking the cheapest one to be the #1 for now.

Three headed goalie monster coming to an end?
PerreaultForever replied to pi2000's topic in The Aud Club
lol, yes, I guess you could read it that way. I think you know I meant he is not going to be any better than he's already been. Ellis to me could be a Joey Daccord type. Late bloomer. -

Ellis will not clear.
