You can’t fear trading players struggling here because of past trades Cozens for example is by all means playing well in Ottawa, but he was a black hole here. The team simply needed to move on. Everytime I watch UPL in net I’m just waiting for the barrage of 3 goals in 4 shots over 2 minutes. If he succeeds elsewhere so be it, but his time has ran its course here

Is he not a PPG player this year? He is the perfect winger for Thompson or Norris at center and has a game that hopefully rubs off on everyone. Benson is awesome and doing an amazing job at his age and will only get better.

While I do agree the love affair for benson comes off a bit cultish....his two way game and overall style is desperately needed by this team. For me, it's not about benson being a point a game player...it's the expectation of when. He's so damn young still. I get he's playing at a pt per game level through 8 games...but let's not jump off a cliff when it drops to .55 or so by seasons end. I hope he proves me wrong - but I still believe he is 2 years away from his MAJOR breakout. Feel free to shut my pie hole Zach!

This is 100% the issue. The sabres youth movement on the surface was a fine idea - but it was run amuck. GMs (and fans) are too risk adverse with signing players in their 30s. Are the going to be in their prime regarding point production their entire contract? No. Are they going to help with leadership/knowledge and helping with the creation of roster balance? Yes.
